The Skytower Rebellion

Thomas Jackson

Appearance:
Thomas stands at 6'4" tall, and weighs 450 pounds. His eyes are a light hazel color, and he has shrapnel scars over what parts of his chest were salvaged. Much of the outer layer of his torso was replaced cybernetically, in addition to his limbs and several organs. In addition, his left eye is a cybernetics replacement, which small bits of metallic vein-like structures visible around his eye.

Personality: Thomas's original personality exists within his mind, but after his "accident," he's much more...cold. That's not entirely his reaction, either, the augments to his brain were made in order to genuinely dampen his emotions through chemical means, rather than conditioning. He retains the ability to socialize and empathize with others, but he finds it difficult to express emotion on more than a conscious level. As such, his poker face is literally unbeatable, as he can simply keep his face neutral no matter what happens. He's calm under most situations, but his implants left his ability to feel rage intact, under the logic that it might be necessary in certain situations.

History: Thomas was born in Edessa to a pair of average parents. His childhood was little to marvel at, but one thing did make him stand out: he was much more fit than his peers. He was always extremely athletic, and was a football player in middle and high school. Once he graduated, he immediately enlisted with the BESC, being transferred to Babylon. This was where his life really began. He was now a soldier, with the responsibilities that came with that title. He had to fight terrorists, raiders, and other criminal folks on frequent occasions, even coming into contact with gangs armed with even heavier weaponry than he was used to using. The first battle that his unit "lost" resulted in the deaths of three quarters of his squad, and Thomas was forced to retreat, making sure that his two remaining allies weren't killed or captured.

Thomas's already intense life was changed yet again when he was recruited into the BESC's special forces unit. He was armed with a wider variety of weaponry, and took part in operations of vital importance to Babylon and her survival. It was here that he was genetically modified in several ways. His most notable modification is his "Adrenaline switch." Essentially, he can control when his body excretes adrenaline, which was vital to his success as a special forces soldier. The mod also allows him full mental control of his body while on an adrenaline rush, essentially giving him "bullet time." Even after most of his genuine body was destroyed, he can still activate this gene mod, though it is usually of little use due to the cybernetic enhancements he received. One other notable enhancement enhances his ability to operate without sleep. He can comfortably go sleepless for three days, after which the effects of being tired start to set in.

Eventually, though, the BESC started to fall out of Thomas's favor. He grew disillusioned with the military dictatorship that the BESC essentially was. Think about it. Soldiers and generals ruling? Terrible idea. Soldiers are made for war, not for telling people how to live their lives. The more people died at his hands, the more Thomas was convinced of this. Eventually, he started seeking outside contacts, hoping to defect from the BESC into a group willing to talk them down. He found The Group this way, but it wasn't easy. When he set up a meeting, they were ambushed by BESC special forces. In the attack, Thomas was a bit too close to a grenade that went off, and took more than two dozen shots. Left to die as an example, Thomas was taken in by The Group and rebuilt.

They had the technology, alright. Replacing his arms, legs, and much of his lower torso, Thomas became more machine than man. Liver? Nope. Bladder? Gone. The gist is, he was a new man, literally. He was already planning on working for The Group, but there was no choice now. He was theirs now. For the past two years, he's worked on anti-BESC operations as a Direct Action Operative and hasn't regretted it. He'd probably prefer to have his whole body, but there are definitely some benefits to his condition.

Occupation: Direct Action Operative for The Group. Due to his extensive augments, Thomas is a rotating member of The group, changing cells frequently.

Weaponry:
XR-78 Plasma Rifle. Manufactured by the BAAC. This rifle fires a single high-velocity ionized plasma bolt per pull of the trigger, and can fire 15 bolts before a battery replacement is needed. For a fee, batteries can be recharged by a BAAC store, though a skilled engineer can also do so personally.


Personal Beam-Focus Blaster: Also manufactured by the BAAC. It is a laser-Firing Handgun, short-medium range, 10 shots before reload, powerful at short range, energy decreases with range; medium recoil. As with the XR-78, the battery can be recharged through the BAAC or personally. However, the batteries are not exchangeable between the two.

Augments: Cybernetic arms and legs, along with much of his lower torso. Thomas's non-vital organs were all removed, their functions handled by his augmentations where possible. His stomach, intestines, lungs and heart were all simply repaired, his heart and lungs receiving minor augmentations to keep them from degrading as much with time, and to improve their efficiency. His augmentation takes care of his excretory processes, though Thomas never cared to ask how. He assumes they're turned into fuel and coolant. As disturbing as it may seem, it's efficient, which was the selling point of his augmentations. All about efficiency. His brain and left eye are also augmented, with the former being given a set of directives that he follows. The latter allows him to predict the trajectory of weapons fire and aim accordingly, along with offering 4x optical zoom. The mental directives are primarily non-intrusive, but he cannot act against The Order's plans or wishes. If he ever changes his mind about his work, he has to kill himself or find a sympathetic cybernetics engineer to try to free him from the directive, but odds are that would kill him too.

His augments are also less flexible than normal limbs, though he can raise them above his head. His augments are powered by high-efficiency solar panels integrated along his body, though the capacitors are relatively low-capacity. He has to have access to sunlight at for at least an hour every twenty-four hours, even if its just through a window. And due to the nature of Babylon, overheating remains a constant "what if" issue, though the internal coolant systems can typically keep him operating fine.

The dorms? You've only mentioned them once so far. It might be good to get an idea of what they're like, even if it's just a brief description.

Thanks...I just get REALLY passionate about physics. It's my major and my hopeful career, so...yeah. I mean, Rayne definitely is a smarty pants and Jacob is totes a little jealous about that, but I did need to emphasize that Jacob intends to make physics his life, so...he really hits hard when he comes to it.

Also, Smith...urgh, I feel like I'm just splitting hairs on this, but at the same time I must insist...Jacob isn't just good at physics. By "specializes" I mean he makes physics his bitch and rides it to the bank. I modeled Jacob after myself, really...and I...kinda...also got a 5 on the AP exam. No, don't mind that, just me being jelly that Rayne is getting all the physics praise T.T
