“Hey! Get out from there right now!” Claire’s voice rang out from behind the cafeteria counter, uncharacteristically harsh from her typically warm nature. “What on earth do you think you’re doing, Liam?!” Her voice drew the attention of a guard from across the room who, upon hearing Liam’s name, groaned externally and slowly made his way towards the back, speaking into a walkie talkie in the meantime. This, obviously, was nothing new to Spring Hill.

Liam’s purple hair popped up a few feet behind the counter, both hands up and a cocky grin on his face. “Oh come on, I just wanted some extra sweets for breakfast,” he declared, his own voice echoing through the eating area. “I’m a growing man after all.”

“Like hell you are! Out!”

As if on cue, the guard stepped up behind Liam, placing a firm grip on his arm. “Come on. You know the drill. Let’s not make this any more difficult than it has to be.”

“Oh come on, George. E nel passato! Can’t you just let me go this time?”

In reply, George pulled Liam out from behind the counter and started heading for the entrance of the cafeteria.

“No, wait! I’m being kidnapped! Help!” Liam yelled out to the entire cafeteria, throwing his head back in half-hearted resistance. He did not pull. He did not fight. He just called out in defiance. “Help me,” he mouthed to the lone female at a table - Anahita, if he remembered correctly - as his eyes danced with a devilish delight. He was enjoying this, that much was for sure.

But alas, it never worked. Liam, as with every Friday morning, was escorted out of the cafeteria and brought face to face with the head guard.

“Well, hello there, Mr. Puck. Fine morning, isn’t it?”

“Easy way or hard way?”

Liam sighed, the excitement slowly draining from him. “You’re such a spoil sport, Charles.”

“I’ll ask one more time. Easy way or hard way?”

“Easy way, easy way! Geez.”

“Then you know the routine. This is your only warning today. You may go.”

And in that instant, everything was over. He was released as Charles and George went off to their own errands, leaving Liam to return to the cafeteria alone. As he reentered, it was obvious that he was bored. Very, very bored.

A banana, two english muffins with strawberry jam, and scrambled eggs that looked like they were probably more imitation than real. Gwen’s breakfast looked both appetizing and not, but so did everyone else’s in the place. I miss having apricot preserves instead of strawberry every day, she thought a bit forlornly to herself. There was no helping it though. At least the food was as decent as the all you can eat buffets back home, if not a bit better.

“The movie?” she replied. “Wasn’t it supposed to be It 2?” Subconsciously, her hand drifted to her left sleeve, tugging the edge of it to better cover the grotesque, pale pink and white scars tracing her arm and hand. “I don’t have good experiences with horror movies to be honest,” she muttered. She had just taken her seat at this time, taking a deep breath to reorient herself. It was only after she had done so that she realized just how much sugar was in Olivia’s oatmeal. “Is that-”

She stopped just short of asking if it was healthy to have that much sugar, reminding herself that not everyone was as healthily inclined as herself. “I mean, sleep does sound like a better idea than the movie. I personally would prefer the cooking class, though I’m not sure if I’m going yet.”

During this time, Gwen had become acutely aware of Olivia staring at her hands. I’m not a specimen to be stared at, she couldn’t help but think. She withdrew her left hand, hiding it beneath the table while she ate with her right. I’m not that different from anyone else.

“My individual therapy is actually a bit later in the morning compared to everyone else, but afterwards I’m free. We could both go to the cooking class if you’d like. Take both of our minds off our troubles,” she offered, echoing Olivia’s own concerns. Indeed, anything would be better than being stuck in one’s head.
Second character up for review!

The moment Olivia agreed to eating breakfast with her, Gwen let out an internal sigh of relief. Glad to know I don’t look like a fool now, she thought, walking in stride with Olivia towards the one thing that could quiet her stomach.

As Olivia introduced herself, Gwen smiled and nodded. “Yeah, my name’s Gwen. Meaning white, blessed, fair, etc. Though I wouldn’t really consider myself blessed.” She chuckled lightly at her own joke, if it could be called that. “Anyway.” She paused as Olivia yawned, providing a soft smile in understanding; it was not her business to ask what caused her to be so tired after all. “Do you have any plans today? Are you going to see the movie or go to the cooking class?”

Hearing the announcements from her room, Gwen pulled a pillow over her head and groaned. “It’s too early for this,” she muttered. All she wanted in that moment was a few more minutes to enjoy the blank abyss of sleep. In the end though, she sighed and sat up, admitting defeat against the voice from the system. They are all too cheerful for this place, she thought, a bit envious at how seamless it seemed for them.

Gwen pulled the blanket back as the voice droned on, noting the cooking class in very mild interest before her eyes landed on her legs. Correction. Her one leg and the lack of the other. That disfigured stump seemed to taunt her as it did every morning. Sometimes, Gwen felt like her left leg was still there beyond the grotesque scar but, other times, it was a painful reminder of the crash that stole it from her. The crash that stole everything from her. The crash that-

Enough.

Inhale. 1… 2… 3…

Hold. 1… 2… 3…

Exhale. 1… 2… 3…

Focus on the voice. Focus on the brush of the blanket and the stillness of the air. This is the present moment.

Gwen continued her routine after a moment, focusing on her prosthesis next. First, the liner. No air? Check. Then, a sock to help it fit better. Finally, the leg. As Gwen stood, there was an audible hiss as air escaped the prosthesis. Step, pss. Step, pss. Step, pss. Over and over as the vacuum mechanism attached the fake leg to her appendage. Oh. The announcements ended, she noticed. Well, at least one of us was able to get better. Now if only I could do the same.

Finally having dressed in a simple white skirt - a much better alternative than pants with her prosthesis - Gwen was ready to leave her room. She grabbed her notebook and pen, a wonderful commodity in a place that felt perpetually consistent, and headed to the lounge to enjoy some blissful writing.

"Just shut up! Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. Please."

Ah- Olivia? That was her name, right? Why was she- It’s not my business what she’s going through. Even still, Gwen could not help but worry about the girl with dazzling blue hair. The nurses had come to her aid quickly, but being trapped in one’s own mind was the worst possible feeling. Maybe there was some way she could help?

Gwen settled into the corner of a couch, flipping to a page scrawled with numerous story ideas and world settings. The pen connected, and words flew from the ink to the page, adding to the edits from before.

Grr…

“I forgot breakfast,” she muttered to herself as her stomach sounded a low rumble. By this time, Olivia had returned to her place on the other couch in the lounge and, as Gwen glanced at her, a brilliant idea sprung forth. Well, it would be brilliant if Olivia accepted anyway.

“Hey. Olivia, right?” Gwen provided a gentle smile towards her as she approached, notebook in hand. “I haven’t eaten yet, and I didn’t really want to eat alone. Would you like to join me?”

Great! I found the OOC, so I'll be submitting a character as soon as I can. The discord link does not work though, likely due to the time the link was set up (cause discord rules). Just mentioning it since I was unsure if you noticed.
So, I may or may not have created an account just for this RP. :)

Edit: And I just realized I completely forgot to add a profile pic in my excitement.
