Lunaria seemed to be leaving. Lin, who had already built a highly negative impression of the older girl, could hardly care less. Perhaps he was a bit touchy on the subject of being ignored, since after all his only living parent barely had time for him. Or perhaps he was just being needlessly judgmental based on the girl's seeming lack of basic etiquette. Lin remained silent, chewing on his lower lip as he stared down at the floor dejectedly. His feeble attempt to fit in with these kids didn't seem to be going too well.
Ciel

Location - Back of the truck, HWY 34

Ciel didn't seem to be faring well at all. The eleven year old lay curled up on his side, his breathing diminished to wheezing gasps. As he was slipping in and out of consciousness and he was fairly certain half of what he was hearing was delusional, he remained mostly unaware of the chaos that had sparked. One of the women was screaming, but her words failed to register in his brain as anything but garbled nonsense. Though, in retrospect, it was probably for the best that he didn't know how much danger they were all in. The last thing the ill, starving child needed was a reason to panic.

At this point, there was no longer any indication that Ciel was still conscious. The boy hadn't moved at all since he was placed in the truck, and aside from his shallow gasps for air he made no sound. His crumpled position meant that his face was mostly concealed behind his unkempt locks of platinum blond hair, so it wasn't immediately obvious that his eyes were still open, though glassy and strangely dilated. His arms weakly clutched his stomach, and he seemed to be shivering even though the temperature hadn't dropped from its brutal high. They were still a good distance from Newnan it seemed... hopefully they'd arrive before their small party lost any more members.
@Oliver Lin has a lot of pride doesn't he? Like, a mountain's worth.

Yeah, he kind of does XD
Moreover, he's just kind of judgmental and doesn't warm up to people easily. Getting to know him takes time.

A boy a bit older than Lin joined the group, and Lin was thankful that he took the time to address everyone unlike Lunaria. Lin nodded when he was asked if this was his first time in Italy. "I never had any reason to leave Shanghai before now." he explained, with a slight shrug. "I'm... how you say... still adjusting." The eleven year old bit his tongue to keep from saying that he was not terribly impressed with Europe so far and would go back to China in a heartbeat. He'd been kind of put in a sour mood after Lunaria's apparent lack of basic manners, but Lin wasn't about to take out his frustration on everyone else. He forced a smile which quickly faded, glancing down at the floor.

"...Lin Xiao." Said Lin. He was more used to saying his surname before his given name, but for because he was surrounded by people of European descent, he switched it around for ease of understanding. "I hope Lin isn't too much of a mouthful." He said in accented English, with a hint of sarcasm, glaring sharply at the older girl who'd addressed herself as 'Lunaria'. He was still kind of ticked off about the girl's lack of manners. He was used to being overlooked, unacknowledged and pushed to the side, but never before had he been flat out ignored in favor of another stranger. Really, Lunaria had no excuse for speaking only to the blonde, and assuming that she spoke English.

Another girl approached the table, and for some reason only addressed the girl who'd been sitting there first, completely ignoring Lin. In China, it was customary to greet everyone at the table if you joined a group instead of acting like one person didn't exist. Was this an Italian thing? Lin's mouth dropped open for a second, then he mouthed "无礼", slumping back into his seat. He didn't call out the dark haired girl on her rudeness, but it certainly bothered him quite a bit.

Translation: 无礼 - "rude"
Ciel

Location - Leaving Franklin

Ciel's vision still hadn't cleared up, even though he'd been still for a few minutes now. His difficulty breathing persisted, not quite to the point of gasping like a fish out of the water, but he definitely would have reached for his inhaler by now if he hadn't left it in his backpack, which as far as he knew had been left in the infirmary. Certainly this did nothing to ease his discomfort, neither did the ominous silence. At least in the infirmary, there were some lights on and the room's other inhabitants carried on a conversation, which served to keep him fairly certain of his own consciousness. As much as in better states he was often quiet himself, the silence was really getting to him.

The eleven year old tried to speak up, but only succeeded in triggering a violent cough, serving as yet another reminder that he was dehydrated and his asthma was acting up. As if he could possibly have forgotten. Being unable to move or speak was possibly one of the worst experiences of his life. Granted, his life before the outbreak was quite comfortable, which only served to put a little bad luck like a zombie apocalypse, the loss of his entire family, the destruction of his hometown, and prolonged estrangement from civilization resulting in advanced starvation in a hyperbolically negative perspective.

Feeling pent up frustration quickly build to seething rage at his own useless state and poor health, Ciel had no choice but to continue what he'd been doing for the last few hours since he'd arrived here: lying still and looking as pathetic as a sick puppy. Which did not at all feel like a natural course of action to a pissed off preteen. But then again, there was remarkably little he could do about it.

Continuing to silently observe his new classmates, Lin twisted a strand of his black hair, letting a look of boredom cross his face. Just watching everyone else get to know each other made him feel excessively isolated. Sick of hanging out in the woodwork like a moody teenager (which he was most certainly not, being only eleven years old), he walked up to the only other person he saw sitting alone: a girl about his age, blonde hair and blue eyes (like everyone here, it seemed), dressed casually although it was clear that her clothes were newer than Lin's.

He wasn't really sure what language he should speak to introduce himself. He knew several, and seeing as this was a European school and she was a blonde White girl, it was likely she was from somewhere in the area. He hoped she spoke French or Italian. English, though he understood some, wasn't really his area of expertise. Though, considering Lin's general bad luck, she probably spoke Finnish or Russian or something else he didn't know.

Not wanting to make assumptions, he sat down and waved silently, hoping she'd take the initiative and speak first. That would likely tell him all he needed to know to start a conversation.
Xiao Lin

Lin stiffly and briskly walked through the gates, carrying with him a demeanor that was devoid and difficult to interpret. He didn't look nervous, neither did he appear confident. More... resigned was probably the best word, as if he were a prisoner who'd only recently come to terms with his sentence.

The tiny, frail looking eleven year old glanced around. This school was as white as an albino polar bear. Quite literally every kid in sight was Caucasian, and most of them dressed in a way that indicated that they were at least middle class. Himself being a financially struggling Chinese immigrant, he was already picturing that it would be difficult to fit in here.

Lin leaned against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest, as if trying to blend into the woodwork and disappear. He wasn't exactly sure what to do now. Classes hadn't begun yet, and most students were just socializing. Socializing was never Lin's forte, to say the least. Which isn't to say that Lin was shy, but he rarely had anything in common with his new European peer group. That might have something to do with his unwillingness to accept them, but usually they were just as hesitant and distant with him.
