I don't know how much caffeine I've just injested and I'm pretty sure it was all a mistake.

I'm waiting for an Abigale post, since most of my previous post was directed at her. No rush @Caits, just making sure no one thinks I quit.

Ciel tilted his head in confusion, nodding uncertainly. He wasn't really paying attention to what was going on in the room, so when Froggy addressed him it took him by surprise. He understood the basic content what was said to him easily enough; he was used to French accents as several of his relatives on his father's side were from France. However, the context of the question was completely lost on the kid.

He didn't ask for any clarification, not wanting to seem oblivious. However, he brought his attention out of his thoughts and back to the goings-on of the room. He was surprised that anyone had bothered to speak to him at all, but if it had happened once he had to be prepared for it to happen again. Besides, getting to know these people probably wouldn't hurt at the very least. Maybe if he acted like he wasn't sick and terrified, then they'd let him out of the infirmary sooner.

"Actually, I can think of several reasons why someone would want to give me something like these." Linus retorted hastily, gesturing to the charms. "Everyone here is telling me that I'm safe and all, but not one person has stepped forward to explain why I'm here in the first place. I just kind of got snatched up and carted off without any explanation. Just saying, that kind of sounds like a kidnapping. He paused for breath, fidgeting with the charms to keep himself from slipping back into a panic. "And I mean, even if Callie just wants me to live with her and be her son or something, she's got a shit ton of paperwork to do. You know how many times I've been in state wards? Getting adopted is a legal process. You can't just pick up a convict kid on the street. Speaking of which, I've got a... uh... bad track record. I don't think normal life is for me, you know?"

In reality, the more he thought about leaving his life as a child delinquent and settling down, going to school for once and living a normal life, the more he realized how appealing it all seemed. Even though he'd been able to survive on the streets, he'd be lying if he said it wasn't harrowing to constantly live in fear of the world around him. Sleeping in odd alleyways out in the cold, wearing the same clothes for days, and having no access to medication and often no access to food... it was all a bit too much. It was clear he'd been under a lot of stress for a long time, and he wasn't even sure if it would be possible for him to recuperate.

He was snapped out of his thoughts when Abigale poked him in the stomach. He immediately tensed up, his hands clenching into fists to avoid instinctively slapping her hand away. "Don't touch me." He hissed through gritted teeth, taking a step back. As much as the charms kept him at a relatively low anxiety level (at least compared to where he was before), they didn't seem to affect his natural twitchy demeanor.

If the girl was able to touch the charms without falling into an incohesive trance, that was at least one point in favor of trusting these people. However, Linus wasn't sure about the rules of how magic worked. Maybe they'd have a different effect on him than they did on Abigale. Nevertheless, he was out of options here. There was little to no hope of escaping, and even if he managed to get out, where would he go? Juvy might actually be worse than being kidnapped.
Well, here goes nothing... He thought, hesitantly taking the charms in his hand.
The effect was quite immediate. His anxiety melted off in seconds, leaving him feeling nauseous and uncertain but considerably less panicky. The withdrawal effects also seemed to dissipate. He was pretty sure now that these were given to him to further coerce him into compliance with whatever they wanted from him, but he was hesitant to let go of the charms. He didn't really want to start crying or have a seizure or otherwise succumb to overwhelming panic.
Now that he was feeling a bit more secure, he decided to speak up. He cleared his throat, looking around the room at the few who still occupied it. "...I have some questions." He piped up in his typical Scottish accent, his voice sounding only a little shaky and quiet. "First of all, what do you want me here for? I mean, are you going to turn me in to the coppers or sell me to a drug cartel or something? Because in that case, I was doing okay on the streets..."

Ciel did as told only after he was informed what the chemical solution was. He had no logical reason to doubt these people's intentions, but his own anxiety was beginning to override his habitual calm attitude. The medication quickly eased his breathing capabilities, but on the inside he was still an emotional wreck. He silently congratulated himself on mostly keeping his cool throughout the day's events, but wasn't sure how long his little facade would last. Any other kid his age would probably be having a full blown panic attack by now.

He couldn't help but notice that for Newnan's small staff size, they seemed to be doing quite well. He was a bit worried that they wouldn't be so starved for help as to accept it from a sickly child. If he had stayed in Franklin, his chances of being more than a weight on people's shoulders might have been a bit higher. Then again, if he'd stayed in Franklin he'd probably be dead by nightfall. Just like the other six or seven or so people who lost their lives trying to keep him and Ray alive. They probably all thought it was a bit unfortunate that Ciel was among the living when so many twice his size and capability were dead. He just seemed to accidentally survive every predicament that came his way. If his luck were to run out, the number of people who would benefit from not having another mouth to feed would greatly exceed the number of people he'd ever done a lick of good for...

His inner monologue becoming increasingly dark, Ciel curled up on his side to face away from the others in the room, his pale blue eyes wide and troubled. He'd fallen back into silence, only offering a quick nod in Froggy's direction as thanks for offering the nebulizer. It might be a while before he decided to speak again.

Ciel cringed back a bit as he was asked a question. He hadn't said a word in hours, and it felt a bit odd breaking his silence. "I'm fine..." He said, though instead of his typical curt stiffness he sounded meek and indecisive. "Probably just allergies. Or asthma... or something." The sound of his own voice brought a slight blush to his face and he flinched back. His mind was full of conflicting thoughts and worries and his usual haughty demeanor had diminished for it.

Even though he'd barely said anything, he felt like he'd been rambling nonsensically for hours. He realized what kind of disgustingly pathetic position he'd been thrown into by disease and malnutrition. Even worse than these people possibly disdaining him for passively causing the deaths of their friends, there was a horrifying possibility that they pitied him. He ducked his head down, refusing to make eye contact with the woman, afraid of what he might see in her expression. He was losing control and he knew it. He fought to stifle another bout of coughs, the redness on his pale face intensifying. His malnutrition would take a while to heal, but his sense of dignity was probably going to be a tougher recovery.

Ciel was relieved to be somewhere relatively safe for once, not being thrown around from place to place or wandering sick and dying in the forest. His nausea from being moved had started to fade off, and though he still wasn't feeling up to eating much he seemed to be improving. He looked up as Ray was moved in from the operating room. The man seemed to have survived, so with any luck both of them would make a full recovery... well, as full as one could recover from a severed limb.

Ciel lay back down on his side, no longer having the strength to continue sitting up and observing. He was exhausted, and certainly worse for wear. Besides, the weight of the situation had sunk in a little. He'd seen people die before, but that was hands-down the most casualties he'd witnessed in one day alone. He didn't even know any of them, and most were there to try and help him and Ray. Which basically means that if he'd died in the woods like he was supposed to, several people would still be alive. That was a little depressing and guilt inducing, to say the least, and definitely not a good start to being a helpful and productive member of whatever civilization was left in the world.

The eleven year old coughed a few times. Though he was much less dehydrated, a sharp ache still lingered in his chest to the point where he was pretty sure getting rest would be borderline impossible. Though he was pretty certain he'd be okay for the moment, he really wished someone had brought his things with them to Newnan. Among other useful things, he'd left his rifle, drawing utensils and his inhaler. He supposed he'd have to stop relying on the medical device eventually. There was probably no way to refill it anyhow, and he didn't have it with him anymore so he'd just have to buck up and tough his attacks out.

He kept his eyes open but didn't seem to be looking at anything in particular, idly twirling a strand of his pale hair. He was more confused than anything else, not really sure what to think of what just happened. While there was no possible way he could have helped, he couldn't help but wonder if the others wished he hadn't showed up. They were probably close with those who died trying to haul his incompetent ass to Newnan. Worst case scenario, he was now the least liked person in town, but even that was better than being dead, he supposed.
I'm going to give @Legion02 and @Blackpanther a chance to post before I go again. Also @Queentze if they're still with us.

Linus frowned at the hand, but took it with some hesitation. He would have told the man his own name, but his throat felt sealed shut. He kept his eye on the wooden charms, still fairly certain they were just a going to make him do as told by some means. Why else would he be dragged out by a stranger to an inn only inhabited by about 5 or 6 people, one of whom just happening to have magical items that will cure exactly the ailment he confessed to having? He was still pretty new to the idea of magic. He had always been aware of its existence, but it had never played a large role in his life and he didn't know how any of it worked. He wasn't even aware of his own magical potential.

He pulled his hand away from the man after a second or two, refusing to make eye contact or even avert his gaze from the floor. He remained silent, knowing that if he managed to speak at all it would only make him appear more fearful and pathetic. He also had to worry about remaining conscious; he knew that much. If he went into a seizure now, hell only knows where he'd be when he woke up. He didn't want to give a bunch of highly suspicious strangers another chance to take advantage of his vulnerability. He'd already allowed them to drag him out to a place where he was pretty sure nobody could hear him scream if he happened to be brutally murdered. That was a stupid idea and he didn't even remember why he'd decided to go with it at the time. But it was far too late to do anything about it now.
