It's incredible how if you give someone just the tiniest bit of power over others they'll turn into the most self-righteous, selfish, impatient fuckers you will ever meet.

How are some writers on this site still incapable of knowing how a comma works?! It's like the second easy piece of punctuation you learn about as a kid!!!

It'll always be confusing to me when some people regard two or three sentences in an IC post as putting in effort with the writing, yet they consider themselves at a casual/advanced level.

Charlie was beginning to feel less and less confident in the abilities of the team as various things unfolded; some guy with silver hair nearly blowing them up; the tiger-girl having a temper tantrum at getting in the car, the guy waking up from a nap telling everyone quite cheerfully that they could die, some chick who was apparently an agent making jokes about huffing chemicals, a chatterbox blonde that seemed just as nervous as he felt, and some guy with sick tattoos sizing up the wild girl as if wanting to challenge her. Sinking back in his chair in a dejected manner, Charlie's legs seemed to increase their speed in bouncing up and down.

"At least the suits are fire-proof." He thought to himself grimly, already anticipating a dark outcome for this mission. They hadn't even discussed a plan as of yet, which was also concerning. As far as he knew, this mission was an important one. Fate of the world, and all that. Surely someone other than a bunch of... whatever the people in this van were, were better suited for the job?

Drumming his fingers lightly on his knees, he cocked his head in agreement to Allison. "Yeah, what she said. Not the "super-pumped" part, just the "game-plan" part. You do actually have one, right?" He asked doubtfully, wondering how this group was going to work out in a real battle with real consequences when they had arguments over pressing explosion buttons.

Nina van Essenhout

Location: The X-Van

Nina had directed a somewhat sharp look at Marygold, but didn't say anything about the unfolding chaos in the van. She was more than aware that most people Nina had interacted with disliked her tendency to take control - although only in the manner of trying to deescalate a situation or make it better, it was still annoying. Even Nina could understand that. The X-Men (Or X-Children, as they were currently acting.) were under Marygold's command, so Nina left the job to her. Undermining her authority wouldn't help the kid grow as a leader anymore anyway.

Turning to Cassandra and her sister, Nina's expression warmed slightly. Although it would make one ten times more worried out on the field, it must be nice to work together with your sibling. She was sure her friend was feeling equal parts concern and happiness at having her younger sister sat beside her, especially on such an important mission. At the very least, Cassandra could take solace in knowing that if they somehow failed, her sister would live. Though Cassandra and every other human would die, so it would be a bittersweet thought. Best not to let it happen in the first place, Nina thought.

"I hope you enjoy your time at the Institute, Carolina." She said pleasantly. "When ignoring the life-threatening missions, it's a lovely place to live. Excellent training rooms, too." She vaguely wondered what kind of offensive training Carolina had - her power didn't really seem like it would be useful out on the field, but then again, powers could be surprising in all kinds of ways.
@Nallore

I can't really write anything until you've fixed your update.
@Nallore

My bad; I'd forgotten the rule about having no control whatsoever around your character's surroundings, so I'll edit the bench out.
@Nallore

Back in the waiting room, the kitten was rather happy and content as it curled up in James' lap and started to fall asleep rather quickly. The receptionist stood up and moved over looking down at the kitten and smiled softly. "The thing is adorable." She said gently petting the sleeping kitten

^^ I took that pretty clearly as you writing the kitten (and therefore James) were in the waiting room.

@Nallore

James is sat outside, not in the waiting room.

Charlie's first thought as he entered the van was that he needed to get his hands on one of those x-men suits. They looked a lot more hardy than his jeans and hoodie that he was currently wearing, and he had a large hunch that at least one article of clothing was going to be singed away before the mission even started properly. Strapping himself in alongside the others, he didn't dare touch any of the buttons. Although not really impressed (The amount of shit he'd seen in the past week had numbed any future surprises - a decked out van was actually kinda tame compared to everything else.), knowing his luck he'd nudge a lever and end up shooting out half of New York.

"So uh... are those suits fire-proof?" He asked aloud to the van. "I'd hate to keep burning through them. When I get one, that is."

Nina remained quiet for most of the van ride, simply raising an eyebrow in mild annoyance as Pietro arrived late, and then immediately began ignoring Marygold's orders to not touch anything. Although tempting to let Quicksilver know of their temporary partnership during this mission, Nina figured it was best to let Marygold or Cassandra break the news in front of Guinevere. The last thing they needed was the girl having a temper tantrum in such a confined space about Nina working with her new beau.

As James expected, the clinic didn't take kindly to non-service animals inside the place. Hell, he'd had to leave Allie locked up in his truck after he got mauled, only managing to bribe a nurse to feed and water her while he was laid up in bed getting stitches. After offering to hold the kitten while Lydia got her leg sorted out, James perched outside on a rail, Allie tied up nearby and the kitten wandering about on his lap, his hand ready to catch it, just in case he slipped and the kitten fell. It certainly seemed calmer now that Allie was further away - the presence of the other cat likely hadn't done it's nerves much good either.

Absent-mindedly scratching behind the kitten's ear, James wondered how much long Lydia would take. He doubted she needed stitches for a wound so minor, and he was itching to get to this mysterious address.

Nina flinched lightly as felt the Professor's voice in her head. While she would have preferred a simpler and less invasive method of summoning the group (An intercom? Text message, maybe?), she couldn't doubt the efficiency. One of the conditions of her working here was for the psychics to stay out of her head as much as possible, but that order couldn't really be relayed to the Professor. It was his house, after all.

Arriving in the garage, Nina's eyes met those who had already assembled. Many of them were students, kids that she hadn't formally met. Still, she'd read their dossiers. Marygold and Cassandra were present, as was a younger looking girl who could only be her sister, Carolina. Apparently she had the power of Astral Projection, which was certainly interesting - a paranormal phenomenon for most humans, it was curious to see the power manifest as a mutation. As for the rest of the garage...

Oshea Jackson - super speed. His leg seems to have healed nicely. I wonder if Quicksilver ever had to apologise for that. Allison Andrews - future sight. Not much in the way of self-defence. Damon Fawkes - alive tattoos. They'd be interesting to study,
in comparison to their real-life counterparts.
Nina's gaze lingered on the tiger, suppressing the urge to roll her eyes. Obviously, this could only be Ayita. Nina didn't know why the girl was currently in this form, but all she could assume was that it was some form of showing off. Still, she couldn't be sure, so nothing was said.

"Hello." She greeted the group with a nod, her expression neutral for the moment. "My name is Marina van Essenhout, but you may call me Nina. I'm not sure how much you've been told about me, but my mutation gives me super-strength. If you need aid on the battlefield, please take advantage of my powers and call for help. I'd hate to see anyone get hurt." As her small speech went on, her tone shifted from neutral to more empathetic. For all her personality flaws, Nina definitely had her heart in the right place when it came to matters such as this; these people deserved better than to be injured or killed by the likes of Magneto and his goons, and she would do everything in her power to avoid this. Glancing once more around the room, she saw a couple of unfamiliar faces - two boys, who were clearly new students. She thought it a shame for them to be thrust so suddenly into this issue.

Charlie nearly jumped out of his skin as the Professor's voice echoed in his head. He had been hunched over in a squashy leather seat, in one of the several living areas of the mansion. PSP in hand, playing Final Fantasy VII, and the volume turned up as loud as possible, blaring through his headphones. To have an ethereal voice echo over such loud music and sound-effects was chilling, and Charlie pulled his headphones down so they dangled around his neck, shuddering. He'd only been at the mansion for less than a week, and had only been told yesterday about his newfound involvement with the X-Men. Fighting crime had been the last thing he'd expected when arriving here - he'd thought he would just be going to school, chilling out, maybe getting some decent pocket money for the first time in half a decade. But the Professor had requested his assistance, and considering the offensive powers he had, and what Xavier had done for him, Charlie had begrudgingly agreed. He still had no real idea of what to do, but figured if he was in a team and they had a decent leader, he'd be fine. From what he'd heard, there were some agents from S.H.I.E.L.D present, and the last mission, Tony Stark himself had shown up. That excited - and calmed - him a good bit about his own involvement with the group, but the danger was still there.

"Chill out. It'll be fine. You're working with professionals." He told himself firmly as he made his way to his room, turning off and putting his PSP safely away before heading to the garage. He couldn't risk getting his single form of entertainment damaged, no matter how boring the drive to the mission was. Speaking of, he had no idea how far away they'd be going. Or what they were up against.

By the time he peeped into the garage, there were several people sitting around. Including... a tiger? Figuring he couldn't possibly look as out of place as a giant cat, Charlie walked into the garage fully, taking a seat by a blonde girl quietly after waving awkwardly at the others. He'd been briefly introduced to some of them when he first came here, but he'd been so stressed out that he'd completely forgotten their names. Except Marygold, of course - she was their de facto leader, from what he understood, and he gave her a nervous smile. By the time more people had filed in, including a woman from S.H.I.E.L.D who introduced herself and her powers (The tiny woman looked like the last person in the world to have super-strength, but Charlie took her word for it. Mutations were weird like that.), his nerves had jumped up a notch and he was jiggling his legs, playing with his hoodie drawstrings nervously.

James kept a tight hold on Allie's leash as the young boy came running over - offering a friendly smile to the kid and getting Allie to sit by him. A smile was given to the mother as well, but he couldn't help thinking she should have kept a closer eye on her son. Strange dogs weren't always safe, especially when with a strange person. Still, no-one was hurt, so he didn't complain.

"Oh! Of course, you should definitely get that looked at." He agreed immediately to Lydia's request, not admitting that he'd momentarily forgotten about her injury. It was a minor one, but she made a good point about infection - feral cats weren't exactly the cleanest of creatures to be scratched by. "It's a shame I didn't bring my car, as it has a first-aid kit in it. I've been travelling and camping a lot, so I'm prepared for most injuries." He paused with a light laugh. "Although not a mauling from a wolf. I got caught by one a few weeks back - that cat from earlier looked just as mean-spirited though." After having visited it a few times, James knew the clinic wasn't too far from where they were. It was probably best to have it checked out by professionals rather than just whacking some iodine and a band-aid on the wound anyhow.

As the pair turned towards the direction of the clinic, James looked to the kitten in Lydia's arms. It seemed to have calmed down, but was still glaring (If cats could glare) at Allie. "Where did you find the wee thing, anyway? Running away from your attacker?" He asked with a teasing grin.
