So, how about you @Polybius? What is your favorite roleplaying story-line you have played/GMed?

Friend of mine ran me and five others through a 3.5 Tomb of Horrors. Best D&D game I've ever played. I think my first D&D campaign ever was probably my favorite because the pressure to provide a good game was non-existent. It was just me, my wife, best friend and his girl. It was standard fantasy fare and it never concluded, but I really got into helping the players develop stories for their characters. Currently I'm into more abstract stories, non-linear, weird-fiction type stuff.

How do you guys feel about the numbers/mechanics VS. straightforward storytelling on a medium like forum roleplay?
This is my idea...
instead of having people come in, present a character, and when the game ends or the character dies, they all go their separate ways. End of story. Instead we get a group of gamers together... some people say "Hey, I was thinking of running this game." We all decide what to play together, and we go from there. However, when this game ends or a character dies we treat it just like a face to face game. We say "so what are we playing next?"

See what I did there? Instead of everybody walking away because the game is pivotal, it is the group that is pivotal now.

So why am I on here recruiting? First of all, I suck at selling things, my games, my characters, myself. Secondly, I don't know if it is just me and a run of bad luck but I keep encountering 4 scenarios. This is over the span of dozens of applications and months of waiting and working and trying to get something going.

Yep. I feel ya man. I don't know if it is a symptom of online Roleplay or these forums in particular, but I do like it here. To be honest I only roleplay online because my real life commitments are insane-Professional chef, father of two. But I really enjoy being creative and writing, it's a stress relief for me. I'm more naturally drawn to worldbuilding, it's something I've done even before I knew what D&D was, but I'm taking strides towards being a better roleplayer and want to expand my capabilities in character depth and imagination. Anyways if your interested you can see some of my stuff in my signature or on my blog which I tend too about twice a month with original work. Nice meeting you all!
Just dropping in to say I may not be able to finish my sheet until monday. Also wondering if the trend towards high fantasy in the last couple of ns's is the new norm for the rp? Armies and nations lead by wizards and sorcerers etc. Seem at direct odds with the gm's attitude on magic. And the setting as a whole-I was under the impression that this was a "broken world" where civilization was just barely scraping by in the twilight years of Azoth.
Edit: don't get me wrong-I'm not calling anyone out, I just want to be clear on the theme and tone of the story before I put three hours into a NS. Thanks!
Just porting my WIP over. After the OOC post, I can see I'm going to have to adjust some things.

Not sure what to do here, I can adjust my first post as necessary.

We are the vision of distant ages, the eye of eons past...

From the mottled, primal flesh of the terrestrial body began the sallow desiccation. From this dry and cracked pit formed the first teeth, an endless gnawing of thinly skinned flesh and from somewhere far beneath a chortling scream as the bone of teeth erupted over eons of formation, the echoes of which drifted out in all directions, hailing the land into formation. The mouth grew, and consumed any primordial material that fell into its gnawing gape. As the plains took form, the echo of spontaneous creation formed a a word: "Encephalon".

All I have time for today, trying to incorporate elements of the setting overall into the City with enough variation and diversity as possible. If I get this finished I would love to have other players drop elements of their faction into Lugal for some plot lines. I've already decided that I want Lugal to be obliterated by the ____ as the Salished Empire wains in power. Obviously a lot of this depends upon GM approval and whatever the Salished Empire ends up being. Totally up for changing any aspect of the city as it is now, but I have plans for a map I want to draw in the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to this setting!

By the way, @Polybius, did you just copy paste letters from other city names to mark yours on the map? ... Genius.

Yea, just keeping it pretty and using names and spellings etc. from Sumerian/Mesopotamian Culture/History.

@gorgenmast I'm being pretty liberal with my use of Salished Empire history. My time to write is so sporadic and infrequent I'm not going to wait for more info posted about the Empire. Here's a summary of where I'm going with Lugal, or Zuag-Si as it was known in ancient times, I'm up for changing anything but I think a collaboration would be appropriate:

Question for setting Verisimilitude: Would it make more sense for a Red God to whisper the madness into Chella's Ear, or an Old One? Thanks!
Here is my claim. I've used purple/green because the city of Lugal is a tribute paying vassal to the Salished Empire, with no real standing army of its own (outside of the myriad mercenary companies/guilds). Pretty much going to concentrate on the story of this one city-state at the edge of civilization for my posts.
Salished Map
Ok changing my concept. Now I'm building a City-State at the foot of the Godsfang Mountains, on the border between the Erg and the Rainlands. Here's a brief summary:
