Is there any unpopular character in pop culture whom you personally find appealing?

I don't mind throwing in an ex machina or two to sort of 'force' them to include other people in this mess. Maybe some goofy sidekick character who has pried way too much for them to let go, or a self-isolated relative who is conveniently just remembered. Perhaps the little things like food and music could jog either one of their memories about a character like that. They're practically on the losing end as of now, and it'd be cool if something seemingly insignificant could give them some idea for a potential solution. If they're really gonna go into the cafe to get something to eat, a dish on the menu or a song on the jukebox could do it. The build up of attraction has to be taken slowly. It'll develop as the main characters themselves develop and experience some personal revelations along the way.

Yeah, when it comes to building a relationship I think we have to have them make it through this part of running away and come to rest in a situation where they'd maybe have to get disguises and hide in plain sight. This would be when they can experience 'life' and start to reveal stuff to each other. It would help to introduce a trusted NPC who can facilitate this, sort of like someone in an operator role. Since he's a musician by hobby, they would likely connect through that, and the difference in experiences also means that they can each get the other to try certain things they haven't before.

They might just need to hang around a little more. Maybe come across a conversation piece, or an unusual quirk that will spark some talk unrelated to the whole situation with the chip. The awkwardness has been amusing, but if we need to start getting rid of that then finding something in common might do it. It'd be interesting since they're so different, but surely there'd be something minor, maybe even just a childhood pop culture reference due to them being almost the same age.
