The first boss battle of the roleplay has begun!
Fight the fire or run? What will you do!

Since this is a boss battle, we'll be dealing with this scenario differently from the normal roleplay. The fire, assuming no intervention to help it or hinder it, will steadily spread as the RP day goes on.

To convey the fast paced nature of this situation(and avoid stalling during it) and to instill some tension, the spread of the fire will be synched with the passage of time out of character.

Every few irl days, a new phase of the fires spread will occur in the IC. Be prepared. Waiting too long to post can be deadly or harmful here, however the pace set by this won't be unreasonable so don't worry especially about that.
Not yet.
Interested! @Warpcircuit

I'll begin working on a sheet to get in asap.
Eidolon
Temple Gate, Mount Enzo

As the sun crested over Fuyuki, a shadow-like form was loitering at the gateway to Ryuudou Temple. Though it was wavering like a flame on its dying embers, it had been stable enough to remain in the world for minutes. While waiting on the Temples true masters to emerge, the thing created in Casters likeness had been gazing at the city below. The view was truly excellent from here, and they were glad to have an excuse to enjoy it for a few moments.

....Of course, it went without saying they had put up a pre requisite field to not be noticed. This was a waste of magical energy and 'mystery', going this far to project her image this far. Well, at least in this terrible era. Even if it wasn't, going by the mentality of a 'magus', using just a familiar would've been enough.

But a 'magus' would not impress a Heroic Spirit, or those who used their degraded forms as familiars. Caster, afterall, was the weakest class. So it had resulting come to something as grandiose and idiotic as something like this.

No Magus could deny that the land upon this mountain was sacred. It could be considered the archstone of Fuyuki, the very heart of the entire land. By the standards of those who used magecraft, calling it a 'castle' was an understatement.

No.

If the land was prepared properly, even Servants and their Noble Phantasms would have trouble with this place. A spirit of the higher ranks would be vastly weakened by this land. A weaker Servant could probably even be knocked down a few ranks if they stayed too long. No... at this level, fading would be a serious issue.

If a Caster class servant properly prepared their territory here, it would become a genuine fortress even in a war like this. But she had no interest in the place. This place was not being inhabited by an enemy Caster(clearly), so she had no desire to upset the status quo. Put simply, it was more like she was here for a diplomatic visit. The air was rather relaxed as a result, even if high-thaumaturgy had been used.

For her, acquiring the cup was a secondary thing. Still, Caster had little time to think on it in the rush that was last nights preparations. But given the input information she was gathering about the spiritual land, her masters data, and the very nature of the ritual-

Caster, definitely, did not trust what that cup had told her. This ritual made no sense in the first place. No, the fact that the actual cup was below her right now was more than enough of a warning. If she acted on the premise that the Holy Grail War was legitimate, she'd lose as a Servant. That's what her instinct as a Magus had instantly told her. Until she had the time to worry about the true nature of the Grail War, she would act on that instinct.

Regardless of whatever that meant in the end-

This land truly was beautiful. It was a sea-side city in an island nation. It was definitely inferior to her homeland, or the nation of barbarians across the ocean from it. But, it would definitely do. She wasn't especially uncomfortable with the land here as a 'person', even if it was anathema as a 'magus'. Regardless, the image of Caster continued to wait at the Gate. One of the two who had claimed this land would eventually greet her, and she would be able to speak with them earnestly.

Interlude I
[Wrought Iron Demon II]

Ruler(?)
? ? ?, Einzbern Forest

Every strike between the two was absolutely meant to kill the other. It was a mere matter of course. This was no friendly competition. Unlike with the fight between Achilles and Dietrich, there were no words beyond what Ruler had spoken earlier.

That was fine. In the first place, the divine torrent of steel between the two didn’t allow even a single syllable. Anywhere their fight led, the forest had been sundered. This was the only answer Ruler could have toward Casters tactics of hit-and-run strikes.

The red-figure known only as Caster had employed hit and run tactics almost constantly. In this battle, the forest was being used to his advantage as much as possible. He had constantly attacked Ruler, attempted to force an opening, then fell back as quickly as possible. Against a normal Hero, this may have spelled death but-

Ruler was not an ordinary Hero. He had only taken fairly grievous injury from Casters various guerrilla attacks. Multiple gouges and deep wounds lined his cursed body from various demonic and holy armaments. Weapons were strewn across the battlefield, embedded in both the earth and what little trees that remained. With the terrain being so devestated, Casters avenues for attack were being lessened by the second. The only reason Caster had not died was because he hadn't allowed Ruler to go on the offensive for even a moment.

In the moment Caster ran out of areas to launch attacks from, he would die. That was the level of difference between their skill, technique, and raw power. In other words, this battle should end. Both combatants realized this. And yet, Caster did not flee.

….Though it had been unsaid, this wasn't a serious fight from the start. That is because neither of them had spoken the name of their Noble Phantasm. In other words, neither was fighting with the intent to kill. In that sense, it could not be called a true fight between servants.

This was for multiple reasons. However, in Rulers case, that was because his objective wasn't to kill his opponent. He was 'merely' charged with sending him fleeing back to Fuyuki. Defeating one of the participants was not something Ruler should do. Rather, it was something to avoid. He was a neutral moderator, and he could disrupt the wars balance by killing even a single participant. In this case, he was just trying to convince his opponent that trying what he intended was a very bad idea.

The greatest language for a Heroic Spirit was of course their weapon arm, and Ruler wasn’t a man of many words in the first place. So the battle had wordlessly begun as if it was destined.

But it would not end wordlessly. Ruler had hit his limit. He could easily continue or finish this battle, but the amount of damage he had incurred from just one enemy was too much. This was a rare great opponent, someone who could only be answered with a serious response.

Because he was about to lose, Caster fell back dozens of meters. No, he wasn’t running away. He was preparing an attack. Was it his Noble Phantasm? Or perhaps some other trump card he had prepared in this territory?

Regardless, a great magical energy was being released. The various weapons across the battlefield shook in anticipation. As if on their own, they raised themselves and flung themselves at Ruler from all sides. Even more had been hidden before this battle, and they revealed their presence by adding themselves to the deluge of steel. It would absolutely destroy Ruler without distinction, flaying him into countless piles of meat and sinew.

In response, Ruler brought 'something' out of his massive satchel. It was a singular weapon capable of overturning an 'absolute death' such as this.

Alone, the weapon could not be considered a Noble Phantasm. But it was an awe-inspiring sight even by the standards of Servants. It was a great-bow the size of a siege weapon, something close to a ‘ballista’ in terms of size. The arrow being notched on it by the giant was of similar absurdity. There was no Hero that could notch that weapon. From sheer physical force alone, something like that could threaten even a Dragon. Even more, without the true name the worth of this Noble Phantasm wasn't even revealed yet. It was an insanity.

And yet before Casters very eyes, the bow was being drawn. It was a divine technique that exceeded the limits of humanity.

….From Casters perspective, it looked as if his opponent had more than a dozen arms, all pulling the string back at once. Whether this was the truth or just merely extreme speed, he could not tell.

One thing was certain, Caster was about to die. Moments before Ruler spoke the true name of his Noble Phantasm, Caster began to take evasive action.

But…

Casters error was made clear within moments of the true name release of the Noble Phantasm. The arrow fired was not something meant to be fired at humans in the first place. This was an attack meant to challenge even a castle. In other words, it was something meant to ‘destroy a fortress’ in the first place. How could a single human, even a Servant, stand against such a thing? To die against Rulers attack was simply the natural result.

It was like a divine torrent that washed away everything in front of it. Space, trees, demonic or holy weapons- the destruction of all was merely a ‘matter of course’.

Within moments, an entire section of the forest had simply become a churned up crater in an instant. Moments later, Ruler made his way back toward Fuyuki City. The tremors of such an attack could probably be felt by even the Servants making battle a meagre miles away, to say nothing of their masters.

However, there was a singular difference between Ruler as he had entered the forest, and this Ruler who was now leaving it. There was a slight ghost of a smile on his face now.

It was the face of a ‘man’ who had revived his joy of battle. Ruler was anticipating a new meeting with this truly worthy obstacle.

Day Two has Begun

Glad to hear it!
Interlude I
Wrought Iron Demon

Ruler(?)
? ? ?, Einzbern Forest

Despite his prodigious size, he moved through the forest quickly and silently. This is nothing particularly new to Ruler. Evading the familiars of mere magi- even those of "Caster", is something 'he can definitely do' with a little effort. He is that kind of "Hero".

Within moments, the clash between two great Heroic Spirits, "Rider" and "Lancer" began in earnest. In that moment, Ruler Understood. Ruler, who has survived countless battles and surmounted many challenges, realized it instantly.

There is something in this forest 'that does not belong here'.

This does not include the Einzberns, who had made this portion of the forest their haunt. Naturally, Dietrich and his master would fall within this category. No, even Achilles and his master 'belong here'. This is, after all, the Holy Grail War. It is expected that fights would break out, even at this distance. Though Ruler had fired at this specific spot to make a statement to a certain 'someone', he had taken responsibility to ensure nothing unfortunate would result from it. Because of that, he had made his way to the spot razed by his 'call to arms'.

It was to simply observe.

For masters and servants to investigate- that wasn't a surprise to him. In the first place, that was expected. Infact, that was the important part of the 'statement' to a certain person but-

Something else was here, slinking in the shadows. 'It' was trying to figure out the secret of this place. No. Judging from the 'feeling' he was receiving. . .

'It' already knew. 'It' was merely trying to reach 'that' place, and then turn the Grail War on its head. As Ruler, this was an opponent he could never ignore in the first place. No, this was a dangerous enemy to the entire Grail War system itself. Because of that, it had to be crushed in this instant. At least, that was what he was being told in that exact moment.

His instincts and refined battle sense agreed with that one hundred percent. In a span of time much lower than what humans perceive as a moment, a 'shadow' emerged from behind a tree near Ruler. Dashing forward with speed only a servant could demonstrate, the shadow launched a surprise attack against the giant man using a dagger-like sword. Despite this, he didn't make a single sound in his mad dash for Rulers back.. There was no killing intent, and not even a twig broke in response to the earnest and well planned ambush. Was it merely just skill, or some ability or perhaps even magecraft?

Whatever it was...

There's no doubt moments later. It was definitely not enough.

In the time it takes for the ambusher to reach him, Ruler had already retrieved a gleaming sword from his satchel. Without any fuss, the attack from behind was deflected with a single stroke of Rulers sword. The dagger is knocked out of his opponents hands, and the figure falls back. It seems they weren't even interested in retrieving their weapon, letting it fall to the forest floor.

No.

That's not it.

The dagger his opponent was using has disappeared. It's completely gone-it never even hit the ground. But, it isn't some auto retrieval ability.

Rather. . .

Instead, his attacker had a new weapon in his hands. It is a cursed bow clearly foreign to Japan. Notched on it is a demonic arrow overflowing with magical energy. Its holder, the unknown assailant, is wearing a dark red cloak. It has some property or ability that Ruler did not quite comprehend- but it seems to be similar in nature to that of a saints shroud. Whatever it is, it was making it difficult for him to properly identify who or what he is fighting. No, the only discerning feature he could properly notice was his opponents long white hair.

Ruler dwarfed the man by many times in physical stature. While Ruler was called monstrous or divine by many in his life- the assailant in front of him is definitely just a mortal man.

Beyond that, even Ruler didn't know much just quite yet. No. He was 'told' at least one thing about this opponent. His opponents true nature is, definitely, a-

"Fighting in close quarters like this, what kind of Caster are you?" Caster, the ambusher, does not respond. He merely readied his bow in response to Rulers earnest words. It was, in many ways, a compliment.

Even in life, Ruler was not a man of many words. Or rather, perhaps it would be better to say that when he spoke, his words carried the weight of the world upon them. But in this war, it was not his place to speak without need. He was here to make up for past crimes, past grievances. Ruler was not here acting as a Hero, Demon, God, or anything in between. He was just a man paying for his terrible mistakes. That is why he has taken on 'this' role.

Ruler leapt forward to close the distance between them, brandishing a sword of almost celestial light. The unknown assailant released the full might of his Demonic Bow. Overwhelming magical energy is put into its projectiles, and it is fired without restraint at Ruler. Their battle commences in earnest.

As a result, the forest is rocked with explosions, destruction, and is being thoroughly razed. The battle rages on many miles away, the outcome and even participants unknown to all in this grail war.

It's almost as if the tempo of Rulers fight matches the one between Achilles and Dietrich. It is certainly beyond their range of notice- but the tremors can perhaps be felt by the two masters hanging back from their Servants battle.

Skuld
Foreigner’s Graveyard, Shinto

In the blaring wind and radiant light, a singular figure appeared. Distinguishing features were hidden by a rustic and almost tribal black cloak. What little skin could be seen was the lower part of her face, which seemed to hold a neutral expression. What little skin could be seen was pale and seemed rather unnatural, though not in the same sense as the walking corpses milling about. The 'thing' in front of Voronin was not human. They were never 'human' in the first place. All Servants were inhuman creatures, but this went beyond even that.

"It's shoddy. But, it'll do for now."

It wasn't directed at anyone. She wasn't speaking to her 'master'. Not yet.

Caster could only think-

What a splendid Magus.
What a splendid attempt.
What a splendid demonstration.

. . .What a farce. A total, complete lie. But, at the very least, it was one she had decided to tell herself.

There were multiple saving graces that prevented her from simply lashing out at the master in the first place. Of all the classes, Caster was the most suited for such a ploy upon the second of their summoning. But in this case, because of a few minor factors, it wasn't necessary. No, attacking your master on sight was moronic in the first place. Anyone who did that without attempting to understand each other was probably an idiot. Regardless of the circumstances-

This girl would definitely be suitable. Caster was more than patient enough to mold them into a proper magic-user by her standards.

. . . As long as they didn't prove unsightly.

Or something like that.

Taking a moment to examine her surroundings, Caster then finally acknowledged her master.

"I forgive you. This is a blameless crime, not a knowing sacrilege against the arts. Afterall, you Magi didn't decide the world was going to end up like this. I cannot fault you for existing in a faulty system." Caste giggled for a single moment. It was both hauntingly pure and full of genuine hatred.

But that hatred was certainly not directed at the girl in front of her.

Skuld could probably 'reach an understanding' with someone who had an agreeable goal and personality. Most likely. Caster could only assume that was probable, considering she didn't see a recognizable catalyst in sight. Beyond the graveyard and its current inhabitants, she had to suppose.

To Caster, who hated the composition change of the atmosphere and textures, humans were despicable. Thankfully(?), her bloods thickness had been reduced within this particular container. At the very least, the 'thing' presently called 'master' in front of her wasn't fully human. By technical standards, they were a sort of mutant. A 'magus' of the modern era who was reliant on the weak and pathetic 'magic circuits' which were nothing but convenient tools in the Era of Gods. Incantations. Self Hypnosis. It was all rather drole and fairly pathetic to Caster. This was the inevitable result of the road humanity had chosen to take with its human law nonsense. Modern 'Magi' probably couldn't even do contract level magecraft properly anymore.

Pathetic.

"Yes. I'm satisfied with the potential you've presented. I won't ignore such cute efforts. 'Master', I am 'Servant' Caster."

If the girl in front of her had been an 'omnipotent one' of the modern era, she would've lacked interest. But she was a specialist who had over invested in a field of mild interest to Skuld. Someone like that was more moldable than a genius- more capable of reaching the teachings she'd enjoy imparting. Within her cloak, she activated some sort of high class magic with Runes.

The mostly featureless figure tilted its head slightly to the right while watching the mutant standing before her. A smile formed on their face, though it showed no cruelty. After all, she already knew how the girl in front of her would respond.

"However, why don't we drop that little pretense? I would prefer our relationship to be of a 'Master' and 'Apprentice'." Then, moments after leaving it hang in the air-

She frowned. Was it an expression showing agitation? Or perhaps, it was an expression showing disappointment?

"But if you really wanted, you could use a command seal to enforce a normal 'relationship' between us. It's really up to you, isn't it 'master'?"

Caster lent an outstretched hand toward the girl and waited on her response.

Peregrinus
Southern Moor, Shinto

"Caster. If the situation changes, we'll follow suit. For now, focus on defense."

Annoying woman.

Is what they would probably say about HER, if they had the time and care for complaints. Currently, they did not. All they could think about were the correct numerical formula/equations and going about information processing. Sharing perceptions with 'familiars' deployed across the city. Processing input data. Receiving information from Caster about leyline/magical energy composition and output. Currently, they were in overdrive. It was only natural.

Because, without a doubt, the Holy Grail was not working properly. As a result, the Academy had to be called. A status update that confirmed more than a few fears.

The reaction was not pleasant. Not pleasant at all.

Peregrinus shifted in his perch on one of the older trees. They had taken up a snipers position with several bags hanging next to them off a convenient branch. He could both watch the frontal approach to their territory while also acting as a living terminal for the information flowing in Fuyuki. However, simply watching the few houses and road below was nothing to them. Only a marginal amount of their processing powers were actually focused on this particular body.

This backwater ritual that had little to no relevance had gained the attention and eyes of Atlas. It was unfathomable. It was inconceivable. For they, whose sole objective was to 'Save the World' to see this event as one of any particular importance. But, on the ground, they could tell 'something was definitely wrong'. Based on previous data given by Atlas, the city was being flooded with Magi. What Caster had informed them of, what their familiars saw- confirmed this seemingly wayward data.

Certainly, there were many unknown factors still present. Though the higher ranked Magi were known to him, those of lower status were not. That alone meant a cautious approach to this was correct. Though they had no interest in the holy grail war, survival and information gathering was currently paramount.

Of the current masters known to him, there were only two that he couldn't defeat with just a single bullet. Modern armament and weapons exceeded magecraft, after all. But, if one counted 'those who created things to fight for them', then that number more than doubled. Against those particular opponents, they could have the most trouble.

But they had their data. That was, doubtlessly, more than enough.

Oh. One last thing. The most important thing possible. The ultimate clarification.

". . .And don't go around searching for 'children'. We don't have the luxury for that."
