Everyone still here?
"Well first ill talk about Barriers, since you two both seem to want them". Saito let out a small yawn. He seemed to have a few bags beneath his eyes and a small stubble on his usually cleanly shaven chin, implying that he had been staying up late and had yet to shave. "Mages can't really employ defensive techniques like Auras, Energy Blocking, or other such things. They use two different techniques. The first one" he raised up one finger, "is one that you two are familiar with. Shields. A shield acts as a wall, protecting the mage completely from all damage or perhaps giving additional resistance to damage. The problem is that they sometimes require power to maintain and can be broken after taking a certain amount of damage".

Ren thought of his Aqua Shield spell, which was like the second one. It gave a little damage resistance, but was extremely dangerous if used in the vicinity of lightning users.

"The second technique is using a Magic Barrier". He raised up two fingers now. "Magic Barriers are more like Armor. They don't protect completely, but instead exist to absorb a brunt of the damage and sometimes employ other unique affects depending upon the form of magic you used to create it. They don't cost power to maintain either, which makes them very nice. The problem is though that if they take a certain amount of damage at one time or are broken through means made to exclusively break Barriers then they take a bit of time to replenish themselves, leaving the mage highly vulnerable. So while they are considered the most powerful among Defensive Techniques in the Abyss... they are also the most risky if your opponent can shatter them. A well experienced and prepared mage though always has means of getting around this fatal flaw, which brings us back to a common Abyss phrase, 'A well prepared mage is like a fortress'".

While it was a long explanation, Ren seemed to understand for the most part. It seemed there was more to being a mage, or even fighting other Ability Users, then Ren thought.

"You two, and possibly even your friends, all have plenty of offensive abilities. Its at this time that you should start learning defensive ones as well. Now then... onto your question about Soul Familiars".

Lucian wouldn't really find anything useful in the first few pages. Those were mostly intro pages on the properties of a Soul Familiar. Even without a proper close read of those pages, he could tell that they weren't what he wanted to hear in terms of tips or advice, but mostly just 'lore' stuff if one could describe it as such.

"As for tips on Soul Familiars... I haven't seen one made before. People usually keep Soul Familiars private for certain reasons. They are created from your Psyche, so their appearance and personality can usually speak a bit about their master. While they start out weak, they can become very powerful both on their own and as you grow stronger as well. There is... one thing that you need to take note of though".

Ren raised a brow here in curiosity, but kept quiet and just let Saito talk.

"A Soul Familiar's life force and mana, or HP and MP I guess in Gamer Terms, are linked to their master's. This essentially means that the HP and MP pool of your Soul Familiar and yourselves will be combined. This means that if your Soul Familiar takes damage, so will you. Of course, I think in the book it states that as your Familiar grows stronger the less you'll take from it take damage, but it is still something to consider when making a Soul Familiar. So as for a tip... try not to use your Soul Familiar against tougher opponents unless its absolutely necessary. Most people keep them secret and use them as trump cards, since the HP and MP linking is permanent and happens regardless of them being summoned, as does their growing since they will grow stronger whenever you grow stronger".

That was a pretty heavy tip, one that Ren was definitely going to take into consideration when making his Soul Familiar. He still wanted to use it, but now instead thought differently on how he would make it.

"Any other questions?"

"You mentioned something about Defensive Techniques..." Ren spoke now, his tone curious.

"Are you interested?"

Ren gave a nod to Saito's inquiry.

"Well... I don't know about auras or other defensive techniques... but if anything you guys might be able to perform Energy Blocking, since you know how to handle Energy. I don't really know much about it, but I recommend checking the Auction site on it. Someone may have wrote a book about it in hopes that someone would buy it". Saito's tone sounded a bit 'sarcastic' there, as if he was speaking about some stupid moneymaking scheme that only idiots would fall for.

Ren's expression was different as he just nodded, taking into consideration falling for this moneymaking scheme since books were far more useful for the Gamers than they were for other people.

"Any other questions?"
It would be next to impossible.
Sup everyone.
Yay, basic crappy OOC is done.

Go create characters, read, enjoy, sorry that it took so long
Link to INT Check that holds basic RP Concept

Based on the new TV Show and the three movies preceding the show that have the same name. While this RP will not have the exact same characters or setting, it will be based on the concept of the show itself. A place that has people that seek out and contain magical artifacts that are used for evil that have varying potential for destruction and chaos to make sure that said magic either does not fall into the wrong hands or, if already in the wrong hands, stays out of the wrong hands. I am looking for 3 - 6 players that will either be Guardians or LITs (Librarians in Training) who will go about solving various incidents while growing more experienced so that they can be ready for the bigger cases that come along.

The RP will have a fairly simplistic game system attached to it to make combat and other instances a bit less 'automatic' per say, meaning you will have to be strategic and careful with how you do things, as your characters can die. Of course, when a Librarian dies, they are immediately replaced, but you all should try your best to not die anyway. It will also allow for incredible customization of your various abilities and areas of expertise. Of course, unlike the movies and the show (so far anyway) you will gain access to magical artifacts and actual magic (small stuff anyway, not the apocalypse causing/world changing stuff) as you solve more cases and that will also play in to your character's abilities.

This will be sort of a Call of Cthulu/Sleepy Hollow style game, solving supernatural incidents and combating various forms of dark or evil powers. Of course, it may go beyond just fighting evil as well, but either way this will be a mystery and intrigue RP that involves around a modern world filled with all sorts of secrets, magic, and creatures.

In my players I am looking for good grammar and decent writing ability who can write one or more paragraphs per post, preferably more. Of course, I understand that it is impossible to get more in some situations, but I do want the writing to be decent (I am also for quality over quantity as well). I also want players who are active who can post at least once per day. I understand if you happen to be busy, but please tell me when you are.

The Game System

Perhaps its best to get this out of the way first. There will be a game system attached to this RP, as I mentioned in the Interest Check. It will be pretty simple, more as a means of giving suspense and mystery to the outcomes of events as well as offering a deeper sense of customizing your character's abilities exactly rather than just listing some basic crap that they can do.

Character Creation

The first thing to do is to create your character. To do so, you must assign their Stats and decide their overall abilities. So with that all said and done, lets get started on creating your character.

And this is all of the basics of character creation. Its pretty basic, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Game System

All games of course require a system in which they will be played. It will be pretty basic.

Combat

A highly important section. For when trying to contain magic, you will sometimes come across situations where a fight is unavoidable. Of course, that doesn't mean that you may be able to fight everything you come across, but still this section is important in those situations regardless.

And that is all in terms of gameplay, although more may come later if I think of anything else that needs to be added.

I take it that is what everyone has been waiting for?

For some reason I thought it was someone else's turn. That, and the stress of life and school kept me distracted (really only have had time to manage my own RP)

Sorry for everyone having to wait on me.
This thing sure was persistent as hell. Unfortunately Simo wasn't able to cast that strange Gravity Spell again. That spell certainly did seem handy, as being able to keep a foe in place to get a strike on them wasn't a bad thing to have. Fortunately their lack of Gravity was quickly solved, when a blue dressed woman came forth. It seemed she had some powerful magic that could control the snow on the beast's body, and possibly had been the one to create said creature. Whatever was going on though there was no time to think over, as Elim had only this chance to strike.

Elim charged forward with as much speed as he could, which was pretty swift in actuality. He kept his weapon a Morning Star, since it was lighter and easier to run with. With a powerful leap he moved towards the red ice core, raising his weapon in the process. With the momentum of his jump he brought his weapon down on the core once, and then a second time, with a third strike with all of the strength he could manage. Elim wasn't resting there though. He jumped upward, changing his weapon back into that large bladed Glaive, fire enveloping the blade as Elim poured a bit more magical energy into it this time.

"DIE!!" He shouted, a fiery fury in his eyes as with one final push, and the momentum of a drop, he stabbed his glaive straight into the core with all of the strength he could muster, hoping that this would end the beast once and for all.
Hmm... there are a few problems with this.

So right now, the bad parts of Sasha I know about are that she is kinda klepto and has recently obtained a joy from both fighting and possibly killing. She is also irresponsible, lazy, and has a possible hero complex.

That being said, you want it to inherit all of those bad traits and none of her good traits. While under normal circumstances that may not be so bad, it actually is, especially if you don't want it to inherit any humanity.

This is why some people have a hard time mastering Soul Familiars when they inherit bad traits that would make them disobey. If you make it inherit all of those bad traits and no humanity, you will just create a feral, dark side version of Sasha who probably will resist obeying Sasha's commands and, thanks to Sasha's recently obtained joy in fighting and killing, may possibly try to attack either Sasha or those around her, showing no regard for friend or foe.

Now that being said, you can still go with this. Or you can try something else. It would be interesting story wise (as this and its appearance as creating a girly cross dressing boy from your psyche may require you to reevaluate yourself), but in terms of usability...

There wouldn't be too much.

This is just a warning, cause I am not that much of a dick to give you something, have you make a bad choice with it, and then make that something useless without a bit of a heads up if its something that you couldn't avoid due to not knowing anything about it.
