The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio
I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly. I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists. I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...
I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.
I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.
I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time. I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.
Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.
Yeah, I had a look at a couple of other places, but nowhere matched the activity for here. Or the writing quality either - the system of organizing and grading the RP's works out so well.

From what I got out of this, we're all on the same team.
You can be a merc, but you'll be working on the same team as everyone else. It'll all be explained in the OOC. Actually, a merc would work well as someone who's been working with the organization that'll be providing the aircraft and carrier for the squadron everyone will be in. Your character could have been contracted as a test pilot or providing security for their operations.

Flying? Blazing action? Hi-tech stuff?COUNT ME IN!On a sidenote, I haven't played nor have any knowledge about Ace Combat. I can surely look up the basics, but I wouldn't mind some explanation every now and then from someone who actually played it. ^^
Oh wow, another person! Woo!
Don't worry too much about the Ace Combat stuff - I only used it as a starting point, as it's very much the 'feel' that I'm going for, rather than any of the continuity. What that means for the RP is that it's going to be relatively realistic (i.e, realistic mission objectives and goals, realistic weapons and real-world aircraft), but with some 'sci-fi' inspired elements, and something of an anime-esque feel as well (such as large aerial 'fortresses', and other enemy 'superweapons' such as satellite cannons, lasers, etc. and larger-than-life characters with a somewhat 'relaxed' take on the military life). Also, some of that helps keep it a bit more fun and less 'cold' than it might otherwise be.
TBH, if you've ever read any military fiction, or watched any similar movies or TV shows, you'll probably find yourself pretty much at home, and anything else can be found on the Ace Combat wiki :)
Well, at the moment it shouldn't be a problem, and even if we do get a few more peeps, then I'm sure it'll be all right.
As it is, enough people have shown interest that I'm confident with starting work on the OOC thread, so I'll aim to get it up within the next couple of hours.

Is the aircraft carrier part of a battlegroup? If so, would it be possible or viable to roleplay as something like the captain of an escort destroyer?
Yeah, as Sauron says, I'll be focusing on fighter pilots only, I'm afraid.

I'm On. as long as we don't get too many RPers I'm fine
Like I said in the Int Check, I'm looking for a minimum of 4, but a maximum of about ten, with the aim of ending up with at least a core group of regular and reliable posters so it just doesn't grind to a halt.

You got me hooked at ace combat brother (major ace combat fan here). what kinda planes we looking at here? Fictional aircraft or more modernish aircraft?
Glad to see another AC fan around the board, and glad you're interested too! To give you an answer, the plane will be primarily real-world ones, but the ones available initially for the players will have received modifications to keep them 'up to date' and competitive with modern aircraft, as used by the enemy. There will also be some of the fictional planes from Ace Combat and elsewhere making an appearance, though when and where will be something I'd like to keep secret, so it's a surprise when it happens. Especially since not all of them will be from AC.
Good question - The 'high tech' is in part what you'd expect from Ace Combat - things like some energy weapons, though albeit large and somewhat cumbersome ones, but still devastating, space-based kinetic weaponry ('rods from god'), large fixed railguns and the like, airborne 'fortresses', and other similar 'super-weapon' type tech, as well as some mention of things like genetic 'tweaking' and minor cybernetics being possible, as well as things like wider spread and acceptance of things like Supercavitation propulsion for naval vessels and submarines, thrust vectored engines, helmet-mounted displays, etc.
Not all of this (in fact, very little of it) will be initially available to the players, but you'll have your own list of enhancements and mods for your aircraft to bring them 'up to scratch', rather than being obsolete. The main point is to make it a challenge, and overcome what the opposition has stacked against you. And so there's something to work toward, of course - starting off with all the best stuff wouldn't really make for a very long game.
