The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Nope, no one's posted their characters yet, and OOC is up, but still a work in progress. Rock on over at the link above and see what's going down.
Oh, a couple of points about the last posts from Winter and Machine -
Captain Garrett is the captain of the Parvan's Claw. She's firmly aboard the land-ship, it was General Houseman who was debriefing us. He, the Captain and Silver have a history of working together, and came up with the Roughriders concept together.

And, MachineSoul, Silver only has an artificial arm, not an artificial eye. His left eye was removed at the time of his injury, and is covered by a patch. If Aiden has access to his medical files, it will state that Silver has trained himself to be able to compensate for it in most regards over the last several years, and despite normal recommendations, has passed all normal visual acuity tests.
(Because otherwise, y'know. He wouldn't be a GEAR pilot. Also, it's not real so :P )
You're more than welcome to join in this game then, as hopefully it will ease you missing it a bit!
Hey, here's an idea. Let's stop creepily stalking Rafale :P

I've got five days off of work! So, I'll be polishing up the OOC this evening and submitting my own character. Glad to see this is still getting traffic and people are still here!

Also, yeah, I thought I'd mentioned that and/or gushed about the soundtrack at some point? I never had a PS2, so I mainly played AC6 and AH.

You probably did, but I've slept since then and I'm also old, so I forget things.
At least, that's my excuse.

I played Ace Combat 5 and 6. I never actually bothered with Assault Horizon and just watched a walkthrough...the helicopter and AC-130 missions kind of broke the deal for me. No judgement on Infinity though. On one hand it's a more traditional AC game and the multiplayer's nicer to get into...no high-G turn QAAM dance of death. But the F2P system feels like it's been ripped straight out of a bad mobile game and the full singleplayer campaign isn't even completely out yet(?? Last I checked, at least).I remember picking up AC5 because I was wandering Best Buy one day, looking for Lethal Skies 2...spoilers, Lethal Skies 2 is obscure as fuck, according to Youtube.

I quite liked the helicopter and AC-130 missions, actually. The AC-130 was fun, but that's because AC-130's are awesome. I also loved the bomber level, but that's because the B-1 Lancer is one of my all-time favourite aircraft.
The helicopter levels were an interesting idea, but the actual helicopter took up WAY too much space on the screen, and coupled with some wonky controls, it was a bit of a teeth-grinder.

Infinity seems like a step back in the right direction, especially with the gameplay and plot, but I agree that it's irritating the full campaign isn't released, as we're getting it in chunks instead of one delicious meal. The Co-op missions are fun, and earning your new aircraft is kind of rewarding, but the F2P model is occasionally pretty aggrevating.

I've played the games since the original Air Combat back on PS1, and 4 was the first one I fell in love with, due to it's properly explained plot and background - it was exactly what I wanted - real world aircraft, relatively realistic mission objectives combined with enough sci-fi and anime-feeling story and tech elements that made it more exciting that a 'realistic' flight sim.
BOO! I would've loved to have had you involved too. I also didn't know you liked Ace Combat!
The OOC is up! so you can go and have a look over the background, setting, aircraft info and character sheets.

I know there's a lot you might have questions about, and I haven't linked all the aircraft details yet, but I'm unfortunately about to head to bed, so please feel free to PM me questions or ask me on the OOC thread, and I'll endeavour to answer as many as I can tomorrow before I post my own character and info. I will update the OOC with more links and info if needed then as well.

Speak to you all 'pon the morrow. Enjoy!
Across A Shattered Sky:
A high-speed, high-action dogfighting RP inspired by Ace Combat, and other works

RP IS NOW CLOSED, AS IT HAS BEEN PUT ON HIATUS INDEFINITELY

2018:
Earth has changed.
Following the impact of an asteroid with Earth's surface (the event later coming to be known as the 'Heavenfall' by those who survived), the world has changed - Earth's axial tilt and orbit has changed. Summers are longer, winters are fleeting and warm. The sea level has risen, and now everyone is competing for what's left.

The United Nations, once nothing more than a regulatory body, has become a global government. But the nations that once lead it have been crippled by the Heavenfall - many of their major cities have been swamped by the oceans and by the following epidemics of starvation, disease and resulting violence. Not to mention rampant unemployment, and destruction of vast areas of industrial infrastructure.

In the wake of these events, other nations have banded together to form their own alternate power block, a competing Unified New World Order - the UNWO - sponsored and backed with materiel and economic power by a conglomeration of powerful new corporations that have provided them with the weapons they need to back up their rising challenge to the UN's traditional leading place.

Tensions over territory, human rights and freedoms and more grow as the UN and UNWO find themselves standing off. Finally, a misunderstanding on a border erupts into a violent skirmish, and shots are exchanged. Lives are lost, and the line cannot be stepped back.
On November the 12th 2018, exactly twenty years to the day that the asteroid impacted, the UNWO attack the UN Headquarters in Geneva, simultaneously attacking numerous other front-line facilities of the United Nations Forces and wiping out much of their first-strike and most modern forces.
Crippled and reeling, the UNWO declare that the UN Government is an anachronism of the old era, and should be wiped aside to allow the UNWO to take control and erase their previous mistakes. Negotiations have failed, and only wiping out the previous world order will do the job - and eliminating their military strength and centers of control and command is the path to doing so, allowing the UNWO to institute their own control.

With nowhere else to turn, and their forces in disarray, the UN looks to unconventional sources to fight back. An answer comes from an unlikely quarter:
The Avalon Institute, a technological research group and defence contractor. Having already accepted a contract to refit and upgrade older models and marks of aircraft to more modern standards, they offer a strong chance of launching an effective counter-attack with the few kits they have ready to apply to aircraft. Not to mention, they also have the prototype 'submarine strike carrier', Nimue ready to launch for a shakedown cruise.

Wary of the idea but lacking in options, the UN authorise the creation of Excalibur Squadron, a unit of hand-picked pilots from the remaining armed forces under UNF command, equipped with upgraded and refitted aircraft to take on the UNWO's aces and high-tech forces in combat, acting as the spearhead for the regular UNF forces as they make their counterstrike.

The Excalibur Squadron will have to learn to work together in the face of their enemy, and to learn about the extent of what they're up against and find out where the real power behind the UNWO lies - before it's too late, and whatever plans and weapons they have are put into action - and the skies themselves are broken, and rain down in pieces upon the world.

Yeah, I had a look at a couple of other places, but nowhere matched the activity for here. Or the writing quality either - the system of organizing and grading the RP's works out so well.

Hopefully I can be a merc :3

Sauron The Dark Lord said
From what I got out of this, we're all on the same team.

You can be a merc, but you'll be working on the same team as everyone else. It'll all be explained in the OOC. Actually, a merc would work well as someone who's been working with the organization that'll be providing the aircraft and carrier for the squadron everyone will be in. Your character could have been contracted as a test pilot or providing security for their operations.
