The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Oh and Silver don't worry Ariella won't be the only female in the group :D

Yay, team girl-pilot GO!
Right, I should probably comment on some of these sheets:

Sauron, your sheet is fine - I've already seen it anyway, so it's fine and approved.

Mateotis, your sheet is fine too, though the Jaguar can carry a lot more ordnance than what you've described there!

Voltus, I really like your character and your sheet. Good on you for choosing the MiG-21 as well! Definitely approved.

RPC, your character is looking good, but there's a couple of issues to address there. With his age being 23, he can't really have been on active duty for five years, as per the description. Also, the weapons you've listed aren't compatible with the MiG-29 (though I know I've said that such things can be modified!)

I'll add the approved characters to the OP shortly.

As for the IC, it won't start until there's a few more sheets up. I'm fairly busy with people coming to visit for tabletop gaming from tomorrow evening and for social visits, but I'll check back every so often to see how things are going, and try and get more stuff up by Monday.

._.I don't even want to know how much you could write while still calling it easy(:P)

I'm writing a novel. I also graduated from my English & Creative Writing university course. Writing characters and story is kind of my thing ¬.¬
No, you don't have to go into massive detail, but some level of interesting detail and history would be welcome.

Uh, could I get an yea or nay on the FC-1?

I've already said, there's a list of aircraft in the OP, please choose one from that list.

Say, Silver, two things regarding the F-14. Would it be unreasonable for my character to fly a single seater F-14? I know it's a plane originally meant to be a dual-seater, but I just can't be bothered to make a second character.A second idea, if I can't have a single-seat F-14, what about a F/A-18A or C? We have the MiG-29, so I don't think it would be unreasonable in terms of era.

Totally okay with that as an idea. It would accurately reflect the idea of increased automation and advanced systems, etc. Though I'm fine with you having multiple characters too.
If you are considering a Tomcat, you might want to have a look at these proposed variants

Is this still open? Would love to do an RP where what I've learned about aircraft would come in handy. ^^Also, when you say Gen 4.5, would an Su-37 be out of the question?

Yes it is still open. The list of available aircraft for starting players is in the OP, and the SU-37 is not available at this time.

However, Sky makes ten players, and with the idea of having multiple craft per player (though I know most people won't), I'm going to cap it there.
It might re-open in a couple of days if people don't post sheets soon, but while we're waiting, things are closed. If there's anyone else who's interested, then please register your interest now.
No, you can definately have a pilot and a WSO. I'd just prefer to avoid having too many characters around.
Maybe everyone can have a maximum of two characters each, then.
I might have to do some re-thinking of things in terms of having the sub-carrier if everyone wants more than one character and potentially more than one aircraft, though I'm expecting most people to have a pilot and WSO if they're having two characters

Complicated and fun lol. I already got an aircraft in mind considering I can't have my favourite Tyhoon multi role fighter lol. also out of curiosity, are we allowed wingman or a squad with our character? just thought it be an interesting thing for character development in and out of mission etc..

Considering the submarine we're going to be flying off of only has room for a squadron of planes, it's not really going to work having your own squadron following you around. And I already allowed one person a wingman, but if everyone's going to have one, then it kind of means we have twice as many characters, and people can avoid talking to each other :P

Hope that aircraft isn't the Aardvark

It's perfectly fine if more than one person has the same aircraft. It's actually slightly more realistic that way. Not that that's an issue anyway.

In other news, I went down the sea front in my home town today, and watched the D-Day 70th anniversary events. There was a mock amphibious landing by the Royal Marines, and the Red Arrows did as display. It was pretty awesome.

There is no one particular part that is stumping me, its the whole thing o 3oI get that there will be a standard set of upgrades for all, but don't really get the rest. o.o

Okay, let me see if I can explain it better.

Fighter aircraft (which includes attackers, multirole, etc) are split broadly into 'Generations'. What defines a 'Generation' of aircraft are the sophistication of its' onboard systems and the materials used in its' construction.

Most current aircraft are Fourth Generation, with modifications and new versions making them 4.5th Generation. Aircraft currently coming into service, such the T-50, F-22 and other are Fifth Generation aircraft. Some on the drawing board (or at the 'back of napkin' stage) could be considered Sixth-Generation.

In this setting, many of the UN's Fifth and 4.5 gen aircraft have been destroyed or greatly reduced in number, leaving a large number of Third and early Fourth generation aircraft around the world, hence the reason for the list of available aircraft in the OP not including many 'modern' aircraft.
To keep these aircraft competitive with those used by the UNWO, Avalon has begun a crash-program of refitting them with systems used by 4.5th and 5th gen aircraft.

These include, but are not limited to, newer, more powerful engines (potentially with thrust-vectoring), rebuilding with advanced materials (such as carbon composites, greater use of lightweight alloys), reprofiling edges (like on the F-35, F/A-18F, etc) for increased stealthy characteristics, increased automation and replacing of avionic systems with modern components to save weight and increase processing speed, power and functionality and using helmet-mounted sights. Changing cockpit systems from dials and analog 'tape' style readouts to focus on a more Glass Cockpit layout with multi-function touch-screen displays and adding new systems like modern AESA radars, targeting and navigation systems (like laser/IR targeting pods such as SNIPER and LITENING) would also be possible and likely.
Adding an in-flight refuelling capability would also be common, as would adding the capability to take-off and land from an aircraft carrier. Things like additional conformal fuel tanks (CFTs) could also be added.

Additionally, the upgrading of these aircraft could also lead to expanding their range of weaponry, adding modern weapons such as laser or GPS-guided bombs, advanced models of air-to-air missiles and a wider range of air-to-ground missiles or other ordnance.

What you choose to add to your aircraft is up to you - it depends on what you think would be useful, and anything you thinkl that would give your aircraft an edge in the field, and make it cool and fun to pilot.
There will be opportunities to upgrade your aircraft later if wanted, but at the beginning, your aircraft will be modified to deal with more advanced enemies as they come, rather than being cutting edge.
