Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

OKAY, another IC post up, moving us along. One bad guy left to take down, and then we can move on to a bit of IC interaction and get an idea of what's going on from here, and a bit more into the plot, rather than just randomly shooting things down.

In other news, there's a few people who haven't posted for ages in character. If they don't post by Wednesday, I'll be removing a few people from the character list.
The Bear ravaged by cannon-fire from the Fencer plunged into the ocean, though close enough into the shallows that it cartwheeled and tumbled through the waves and surf to scatter debris onto the land. The remaining pair of bombers began a hard bank, lining up to come in to Lossiemouth from the east-to-west and unload their bombs on the runway, the airbase now visible in the distance.

Fortunately, Miyoshi's missiles found their mark, and the trio of cruise missiles were swatted from the sky, leaving dirty fireballs in their wake, or missiles thrown off enough that they plowed furrows into the farmland below. However, on the opposite heading from her, Six had not made a move, and the three missiles began their terminal dive toward the base, popping up and plunging down toward the base. The three missiles hit targets of importance; the bases' radar station, the fuel tank farm and the operations building each received a missile - fortunately, with the previous volleys of missiles being wiped out by the interceptors, or their launch aircraft down, the barrage was nowhere near as damaging as it should have been, and the base remained in operation.

More bandits were swept from the skies as the squadron ramped up their aggression and teamwork, interlacing their courses and headings to sweep the skies of the hostiles on their tails. Farid's missile flew directly in toward the bandit on Matt's tail, and the detonation of the warhead blasted the pursuing fighter into a cloud of scrap, swiping another bandit from the skies, while Firefly's attack on another of the Bear's sent the plane rolling slowly into a wingover, before it collided with the ground, its' wingtip catching the earth and sending it in a flat cartwheel across the landscape, tearing itself apart in a fiery pyre. The enormous aircraft set acres of ground aflame with burning components, but the base was spared the damage of being bombed, the only bit of wreckage striking the base being components spewing themselves over the outlying areas.
The final bomber and the remaining fighters regrouped,

Ariella zoned in on the fighter on the tail of the Fencer, and got a solid lock, the enemy boring in after the swing-wing ground attacker had gone level to target the persistant bandit. Lockon tones sounded in her ears, and she let fly with another Python.
"Fox two!" she declared, as the missile sped away. The MiG banked and rolled, avoiding a direct hit, but the damage tore through the empennage of the fighter, and as she watched, the UNWO pilot fought to level out over land, before ejecting.
"Tail's clear, Excalibur Four. Good stuff"
"All aircraft, this is Overwatch. Only one bomber remaining, the rest of the fighters are bugging out. Take the last one down, and we're in the clear!"

The last bomber climbed in altitude, and the doors on its' silver-grey belly yawned open as the airfield came into sight. Below, the personnel scrambled to get to cover in anticipation of the bombers' attack and the rain of high explosive from above.
I'm waiting for a reply from Aristo before I update with a new post. Once I do get one, I will update the IC with a new thread, and start moving the party toward an end, and the next day, where we'll get a new mission to undertake.

RP interests/Genres/Categories:

  • Modern Military, especially aviation-themed

  • Mecha

  • Sci-fi

  • Anthro


Generally speaking, I find it hard to nail down 'genres'. I like things that cross-over and fuse ideas and concepts from different genres. Modern-day sci-fi settings for example (like Battle: LA), or modern-day mecha-tech and alternative realities/histories.

Active Roleplays:

  • GEARS - Anthro sci-fi/mecha, High-casual. The latest incarnation of a game I've been running since before the guildfall. It's not moving quickly, but it's well-populated and busy.

  • Across Broken Skies - High Casual, Ace Combat-esque fighter aircraft RP. Set in an alternate world to our own. Not long started, and running well at the moment.

  • Task-Force Lima - High Casual, Modern-day Special Forces operations. A bit like Medal of Honour, or Call of Duty, but with more emphasis on character and storyline.

Past RP's

  • Along A Different Path: A Macross/Robotech inspired RP. Closed down due to lack of plot and planning by me.

  • Chasing Away Shadows: Metal Gear inspired RP, never really took off due to struggling with plot.

  • After War, Before Peace: Twilight X/etc inspired Military RP. Died due to lack of posts and players not coming back post-exams.

  • Numerous other RP's pre-Guildfall. I ran one about tanks and tank crews that was apparently popular, but died due to squabbling about 'realism'.



Other Information:
I'm extremely fussy about RP's. I like some realism, but if it's too realistic and attentive to detail, I get bored and frustrated, and it stops being fun. I hate book-keeping and slavish adherence to 'reality' bores me, and I don't think it should ever get in the way of excitement, interest storyline or fun.
I like action, but there has to be a lot of character interaction and development too. And I get equally annoyed and fed up of stereotyped and cliche characters, and will quickly get fed up of playing in a group with them.
On the other hand, I can get really involved and interested if the right combination of things hits me, and throw myself completely into an RP.

Unfortunately, that hasn't happened much since the new Guild has gone up.
Scott stood , wincing, after Jan had put the insurgent down, taking Jan's hand.
"Thanks, mate" he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I guess I slipped up on that one".
He scooped up the SOCOM from the floor, and followed the others, catching up as Jan issued their next moves. Nodding, sprinted out of the house and back the way they'd come. Dashing across the yard, he bundled into the desert tan hummer, piling his M249 into the vehicle before starting the engine. He gunned the engine, the big, wide utility vehicle scrabbling for purchase on the dusty street before it lurched into motion and took off at a fast pace under his hand.
Weaving through the disorganized traffic, he pushed the vehicle as much as he could, palming the horn almost constantly to get through snarls of traffic, or pedestrians drifting onto and off of the road.
"Scott here," he called over the radio, weaving the hummvee around a parked delivery van. "En route now." He caught sight of Jan and the others darting around pedestrians and traffic, and honked the horn and flashed the headlights. "I've got eyes on you now, tell me when to pull over".

Then engage one another's bandits....?

You all have radios capable of talking to one another, and everyone is still armed. Work together, post with attacking the hostile on each other's tails. The posts are right there waiting to be made, and I don't expect to have to spoon-feed people events.
OK! I must not have remembered after making my post, or got confused with everyone having people chasing them. Hopefully if we get some posts coming in, then this will start resolving itself. Though I've got to say, I'm getting a bit worried that no one is posting in character at all at the moment.

Scott dived through the door as Jan yelled, grabbing Wendy's plate carrier by the drag handle and tugging her to safety too as he half-ducked, half-fell into cover. Hugging the dusty floor, he winced as the grenade detonated with an eye-watering concussion, leaving his ears ringing. Loose chunks of plaster fell from the ceiling, furniture (meager as it was) collapsed, and the air was full of choking dust.
Spluttering, the SAS trooper climbed to his feet and staggered in to the kitchen. Jan was already picking himself up and ordering them into action. Scott eyed him a brief moment, nodding to confirm the pole was okay, before he sprang into action, moving to take point. He moved swiftly on the trail of the man who'd exited the room in a hurry, Mk.23 held firmly in both hands. Moving swiftly despite his size and bulk, he pushed through the doorway at the rear of the dining-type room into a sparse kitchen. No souls inhabited the room, and he shouted a terse 'clear', before moving through the door at his left; emerging into a hall. A shadow moved at the end of the room, darting up the stairs. Another figure moved, raising a sub-machinegun and yammering in a language he didn't understand. Scott ducked low and opened fire with the Mk.23, the heavy pistol bucking in his hands as the two rounds hit centre mass.
"Target down," he called and moved on. "I think the hostiles gone upstairs, I'll-"
He cut off as another hostile slammed into him from the right, out of the hallway, and he hit the side of the staircase hard. grappling with the man, he managed to ram a fist into his stomach, but received a cut from a vicious-looking knife along his right forearm. With his combat shirt rolled up in the heat, it left an angry wound that spilled blood near instantly, before he hit the attacker with a right cross in the enclosed space, driving him back. The SOCOM was lost in the struggle, and the Englishman struggled to draw a breath, before another punch hammered on the back of his neck and he stumbled back.
That's a shame, considering your character is excellent and all of your posts are great. I hope it's not the RP itself that's putting you off. It's a shame to see you go, but if you don't want to continue, then fair enough.
