The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Hey, my MP5 is considerably less than exotic!
And I blame all the vidya games for the exotic gurns >.>
I did consider an AT4 for Scott for this mission, but I thought having something reloadable would be a better idea. And Javelins are too big - I'd have to bully someone else into carrying reloads for me.
Re: my latest post, I have deliberately not included all the information for the briefing yet. It is not because Silverwind is incompetent, or hiding anything, before anyone's character claims as much. I will put up another post following people having a chance to react to this one, with more information in it. Also, I thought I'd give you a chance to not be rail-roaded into being in certain groups or having to do things, since that can be pretty dull from a players' point of view.

Also, a land-crawler is a different thing to a landcruiser:
((Feel free to finish off your conversations before moving on to the next day in replies to this post, but I'll move things up all the same))

The next few days aboard the Landcruiser for the squadron passed in a flurry of exercises, study sessions and other routine activities. Everyone drilled and trained together, practicing and evaluating their tactics alongside one another, working to understand and unify their skills. Special attention was paid to working with the infantry unit and helicopter, developing and evaluating working together in the field in wide varieties of combinations. The ideas of using the squad as spotters for the GEARs' heavy firepower was practiced, along with various combinations of GEARs, Infantry and helicopter all supporting one another in various combinations of bait, trap, ambush and so on and so forth, until the squad had dizzyingly carried out what seemed like almost every permutation and combination of working with each other. Similarly, the various GEAR pilots and their machines had now worked on enough dry runs and deployments to be familiar with their machines and one another.

On the morning of the seventh day after the exercise and subsequent party, Blade assembled everyone in the briefing room, early after breakfast.
"All right, ladies gentlemen," he began, standing at the front of the room. "We've all trained well and trained hard. And it looks like we're about to put all of that theory into action. There's been an urgent request for a sortie; a civilian supply caravan of land-crawlers traveling west across the badlands from the town of Redonda, close to the Arvaran border with the Badlands. They were heading to The city of Luiton in Mirchusko. Travelling across the Badlands is the most direct route, but as I'm sure you all know - there's risks involved".
The wall screen behind him lit up as he spoke, showing the routes involved, and pictures of the various craft concerned. A satellite image showed the last known location of the crawler convoy, before he continued.
"The exact specifics of the attack are unclear; the crawler convoy called in as they were under attack, mentioning multiple GEARs and light armoured vehicles with infantry support. The Claw will ferry us to within five miles, and then we'll proceed in our GEARs as advance scout, while the Claw uses it's LIDAR and other sensors to monitor and co-ordinate from stand-off distance. We need to locate whatever base these bandits are striking from too. It looks like they hit the crawler convoy as they approached this oasis-"
he used a laser pointer to circle a marked body of water on the map, and the handful of buildings around it. "-they likely intended to resupply and take a break there, before continuing onward. The hostiles would've marked it as a fixed point, and likely attacked on the approach or departure. That said, if they were based only in GEARs and vehicles, they must also be located in the local vicinity. There's a number of abandoned sites and structures in the area we can check out".
He pointed out a quartet of locations. An abandoned copper mine, a long-disused irrigation and agricultural center, a disused rock-crushing plant, and the remains of a pre-fab residential area for the workers at the facilities nearby.
"Looks like people had ideas of getting businesses out of the area, but they just didn't work out. The buildings are still there, however, and mostly intact. We need to sweep each facility to locate the hostiles and any potential captives or hostages, before we move in as a group to take on whoever it is that made the attacks in the first place and put 'em down."
He paused to study the squadrons' faces, looking to see if the information was sinking in, before continuing.
"Terrain in the area is typical badlands: dusty, dry and rocky earth and ground with irregular rock formations, outcrops, cliffs and canyons, with changing elevation across the area. No large concentrations of buildings or people, beyond what's been mentioned. No particularly large bodies of water beyond the noted lake and numerous small streams and narrow rivers. Weather is currently dry, with good light conditions and low wind - but this could change suddenly. And you'll be pleased to know this is a relatively geologically stable area, compared to some. There's strong geo-magnetic interference in the area, so we'll be restricted to LIDAR and visual signalling. Additionally, no satellite uplinks or up-to-date recon are available for this theater at this time.
"Our go time is roughly four hours from now, so we'll be launching late afternoon."
He paused to allow the information to sink in, and the first round of questions to come, before he continued, looking at the assembled faces once more in the dimmed light of the briefing room.
Ariella was quietly pleased that her suggestion for food went down so well, and gave a firm nod of approval as other squadron members opted to join them. Sliding her chair out from the table, she paused as another of the squadron, Winter, introduced himself. "Well, Natan, we're all just heading to the mess hall. Why don't you join us and get acquainted? I'm sure we can all catch up with one another then".

Leading the way via the notes on her tablet, the Israeli pilot took them down the Port side corridor of the huge submarine. They passed several interestingly-titled rooms and areas, and passed through several frames and spaces of the ship, before taking a right that lead them to the ships' small but well-appointed wardroom/galley/mess hall. There were few personnel there at this time of morning; the normal breakfast hours had come and gone, but the cooks had seemingly been notified that the pilots had just come aboard, and there were a selection of minor breakfast and snacking items on offer, in the normal buffet/canteen style service common to military institutions across the world.
Ariella picked a couple of pastries, as well as glass of fruit juice; nothing too heavy, but good to fill the hunger in her belly. Taking a seat on a table to the rear of the room, she tucked in as she waited for the others to join her, before she spoke up.
"So, looks like we've got ourselves a regular International Summit of pilots here. Not to mention the range of aircraft we've got going here. I'm pretty sure we ought to be able to handle anything that comes up, one way or another".

Humm; I'm not exactly sure what to write at this point insofar as being significant to the current situation.

I wouldn't worry about it too much - I'm figuring on putting a post up tomorrow as I have the day off of work (yay, Birthday!) to move things along the next few IC days, where I shall give more of a structured idea of what life is like aboard the landcruiser, and to point us toward our next mission. I'll briefly sketch over in the post, as long as no-one objects, that our characters all get some explanation and training time to sort out the admin/organizational stuff of working together, and we got some practice working together with the infantry squad and the helicopter in 'off-screen', before we get to the mission. I'm sure we don't want to play through a half-dozen training missions and exercises >.<
I really wouldn't mind at all - it makes sense to me in character, as we've lost members of the unit earlier in missions, so someone new being transferred in would shore up the gaps. And the unit is unconventional anyway, given we're from all different nations, and dealing with rapidly changing situations, so I could see the actual organization and supply of it being a bit of a hodge-podge in kind of an eternal 'fix-up', which would explain things away.
Out of character, I think a new member wouldn't be a bad thing. Especially since Zenku's been consistently hanging around and eager to join in, rather than just dropping by once and asking to play.
Looked fine to me too. In fact, I believe it goes:

ARGH YOUR POSTS ARE FINE, STOP WORRYING
Haha, thank you both very much xD
I am looking forward to my party tomorrow. I wish you could all be there too! Your birthday wishes are very welcome though. I hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Sure enough, I looked at the profile and based on the photos that were shown publicly, it definitely was Silver. Suddenly, I realized that I've been needing to post for at least a month, so I stopped sitting on my butt and got writing!

T'was indeed an awesome post, and glad you're still with us. Also, add me on FB if you're so inclined! :P

Just a heads-up, I'll be away for three days starting tomorrow. I'll be back on Monday. I'll be able to keep up with the OOC and the IC and maybe post in the former. =)
No worries, I'm going to be away mostly, as it's my birthday on Monday, and I'm having a party tomorrow. I will try and get a post up over the weekend though.
Well, there will be new systems as well, but I meant a new 'tier' of aircraft will also be unlocked for you to choose or upgrade, if you so wish.
I'm not going to use a money system, as that's far more book-keeping than I can be bothered to keep track of, and I don't want to have to assign 'values' to aircraft or to peoples' achievements and give you banana money based on them. So yeah, it'll pretty much be a case of just swapping things out. I'll have a think about it, and maybe I'll introduce some form of 'slots' system for upgrades, representing the systems you're able to upgrade, and then introduce systems you can swap in and out that take up different numbers of slots, and aircraft having certain numbers of slots, and based on a tiered 'tech level' for various aircraft and their variants, so only some planes can take some systems, etc.
I could do the same for weapons as well, meaning to get the really good stuff upgrades will be needed, but not essential, allowing you to keep your existing planes if you want.

I'm just spitballing at the moment, but that seems like a good idea to me at the moment, considering we aren't using any kind of stats right now.
