The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Thanks. I'm sure they'll get better once I get to grips with everything.
My first post is up, I hope it's okay. I had a lot of fun writing it.
Rowan had found the last few days to be a whirlwind of strange events and confusing revelations.
The last thing he'd remembered, he'd been in the cockpit of his Zeta Plus C1, ascending from the lunar surface to the waiting Taskforce fleet - and the next thing he knew he was passing rapidly into unconciousness, before waking up... wherever he was now.
After that, he'd found himself surrounded and escorted by what looked like a menagerie of Zeon-derived mobile suits, and other he'd never seen.
After being bombarded with questions, threats and demands; his new 'friends' had maneuvered him into helping them, and - reluctantly, and with nowhere else to go - he'd decided to go along with them.

They'd shown surprised that his Zeta Plus was so 'old', and that he hadn't know who they were - and he hadn't believed them at all to begin with when they'd stated they werre from eight years into his own future. At that point he'd wondered if he'd somehow fallen into a coma and lost eight years - and then the other, stranger, revelations had come, about people who were from other times and places altogether.
At that point, he'd decided to just stick it out until things started making sense, or someone he could sympathise with and join forces with came along.

As such, when the silver-haired pompous and arrogant young man who seemed to be leading this group began his chest-thumping and flowery address about the upcoming mission, Rowan, who'd taken a position out of the line of sight, and near the other newcomers - and especially the dejected-seeming pretty young woman who'd seemed very reluctant indeed to be here - started paying attention.
More Gundams? He thought with a flash of interest and hope. They could be from the Federation, or one of the other groups opposing these people! He tried not to get his hopes up too high - after all, Gundams had been used by hostiles in the past. The Titans and New Desides had proved that among others. But it was still something.
His attention came back with an alarming jolt as he heard his own name mentioned by another of the commanding officers in the room.
, "We will start with Stella and Rowen leading the charge with enemy forces engaging them we will surround them led by me and Angelo. With that done we will..."

He tried to cover his alarm with a nervous smile and a nod, searching the room and meeting eyes with Stellar.
Did she want to get out of this too? Was she stuck here like him? He searched the young woman's face and body language for clues. She seemed to constantly be escorted, almost like she was a prisoner. Maybe if they were going out in front, there was a chance to get away... he needed a chance to discuss things with her.
"I'll be glad to be out front," he said, nodding with more confidence than he felt, as he began to form a plan. "We'll lead the charge against the enemy. We'll come up with a sound strategy to leave them open for you and Angelo, of course".
Hesitantly, he flashed a smile, hoping his bluff was adequate to draw them in, and that he wasn't misjudging the girl and her intentions. Either way, he hoped the old saying was true - the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

How does the military feel about us all pimping our planes out like this? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate maximum bling, but...

Well, the information on how it occurred is actually in the opening post, but to save you from the effort of reading it, I'll go over it again here ¬.¬
Because of the 'decapitation' strike by the anti-UN forces that took out most of the leadership, as well as the normal 'first response' or other standing forces, and the urgent need for the UN forces to deploy some form of counter-attack, the Avalon Institue, an R&D thinktank and advanced technology organization that had been working with the UN stepped forward to offer their expertise. Under an emergency order, the UN created the Excalibur squadron, equipped with whatever advanced technology could be fitted to whatever planes were available at the time, coupled with the experimental vessel Avalon had in their possession to act as a vanguard for whatever conventional forces could be organized afterward in the wake of the numerous and extensive attacks.

So, to answer the question, the military probably don't give a crap, as long as the job is being done and they've got enough breathing space to start organizing a counter-attack (the first of which is supposed to be subsequent to this mission), and the politicians can say to the people at large that they're actually doing something to protect them.

So, a flight is two wings of two planes each, right? is one guy in a wing in charge of the other? Does one guy command the whole flight?

A flight is a group of aircraft smaller than a squadron - it's not really a particular amount. It's more than one aircraft, but less than a squadron strength; the size of a squadron depends on the aircraft type. Heavy aircraft, like transports, tankers or heavy bombers tend to have less aircraft, so a flight will be smaller correspondingly.

What a wing is depends on where you're from in the world - if you're from the UK, or a Commonwealth country like me, then it's a group of 3-4 squadrons. If you're from the US or some other places, then a Wing runs the operations and administrative side of things, such as a base.

Regarding the question though, a flight will be commanded by whoever has the most experience and the highest rank. In theory, it should be the 2IC of the squadron, but because in-game the squadron weren't able to be drawn up together before being rushed into action (due to the attack earlier in the game), and also because of the RL fact of people dropping out unexpectedly and introducing new players, then Mihoshi, the 2IC, is with the current group you're coming to relieve. I'm not sure who's in command of the flight you guys are re in. I'm happy to let you work it out amongst yourselves.

well the sleeves would be the only person nearby and seeing as people like Duo and Treize can team up temporarily it's something. I mean in the game Trowa, and Duo both end up on the 'evil' side against Heero alongside Zechs. As for the power of these suits yeah that's to be expected when you're fighting suits like Nu and Double OO Raiser late game.In this case you could be only there to keep an eye on them and since you can easily lie to them, the sleeves aren't exactly on par with people from some number of years ago and an ancient suit could be whatever to them, Or you could be linked to Stellar. Maybe you found her and they threatened to kill her if you don't comply with what they want. After all extended need medical attention constantly

I like the idea of being blackmailed into helping or lied to, that would work really well. I think I'll follow that idea to enter the game. Should I wait for an intro or mention in a post first, or should I try and come up with something on my own?

Also having another ship, while it worked in the previous roleplay, sort of hampered character interaction and made for some annoying dynamics in game. The Sundown suffices for what is going on now. If you want people you know later on in the roleplay all the more power to you but that'd be rather late game.

Sorry, I didn't explain the idea fully, probably because I was running off to sleep - I didn't intend to have a second ship as I agree completely that it would make things awkward. I was more implying that the ship 'came along' or whatever as well, and was then captured and either appropriated by the enemy for their own use, or destroyed after being looted. But that was just a suggestion, I'm far more than happy to follow whatever intention or idea you have. I was just throwing out ideas with the intention of trying to help or make suggestions. It's your game and I'm happy to be playing at all!
Yeah, the aim is to get out alive at the moment, with cover from 2nd flight as we do so.
I would've started off with the S-Gundam, but I thought it would've been way too overkill for a beginning suit, and I wouldn't have known where to go for the 3rd one either, since the Ex-S is insane as it is. I thought the MP-Zeta was a better choice. If you can fit it in though, then okay.
I'm not sure he'd be likely to ally with the Sleeves due to his personal history with Zeon and Zeon-associated groups (pretty sure he'd have a strong feeling of negativity toward them for Stardust), but they could've tricked or deceived him into following them.
That said though, It'd be more interesting to enter by something like that than just ping into existence after the timeskip without an introduction of any interesting kind.

Anyhow, I'll have a think about it, and a re-read tomorrow - I'm off to bed now, as it's late here.

Also, regarding the middle suit again - I did write in my BG that he was on his way to a ship with the suit aboard when he disappeared and woke up in the game universe - it could be that the whole ship came along, and was captured before the crew had a chance to come around, and S-Gundam was taken along with it, to be 'retrieved' later on.
Well, I hope that's the case - I've put my character up for review in the OOC, so please let me know what you think. I hope he meets the criteria, and that he - and I - fit in well.

Hello, everyone. Vance advertised the RP as in need of more players, and I thought I'd try my hand.
I'm a big fan of Gundam, and Real Robot anime in general, and I have extensive RP experience. I hope that it comes through in my posts, and that I fit in well with the rest of you.

I apologize if I take a while in posting. Generally I check the site every day, and try to get posts up at least once or twice a week on average, RL permitting. I always try and check on on the OOC thread if I think I'm going to be delayed or there's an issue too.

Genetic Type: Non-Newtype

Biography:
Rowan lost both his mother, and his sister after the One Year War, when Zeon Remnants dropped a colony on North America as part of their Operation Stardust. His father, a veteran of the One Year War, was left crippled by the same action.
Rowan was in space at the time, serving onboard a Salamis-class cruiser as a GM pilot, and could do nothing to stop the colony from falling to Earth, only participate in the ongoing battle against the Delaz Fleet.

Following this, he refused to become part of the Titans, and disapproved wholly of their heavy-handed methods and aggression against anyone showing any kind of dissent or differing opinion. Eventually, he found himself disillusioned with the EFF as it had become and drifting within his duties in the military, serving only as a means to earn money to look after his increasingly ill father.
Finally taking a stand and actively participating in resistance against the Titans on Earth, he ended up working with and as part of the AEUG and Karaba faction that were opposed to the Titans and the Federation leadership, and went on to participate in a number of small-scale battles around the Earth Sphere.
Following the end of the Gryps conflict, he became a test-pilot for Anaheim Electronics, and remained with them for the opening blows and the majority of the first Neo-Zeon war. He was later assigned to their development and test program.
After the New Desides revealed themselves with the Pezun rebellion, he was quickly seconded as a priority to Taskforce Alpha and was due to be sent out with the first wave of reinforcements for the ships of Alpha with another S-Gundam prototype as well as other Mobile Suits and equipment.
While en route from the Lunar Surface facilities of Anaheim Electronics to the orbiting ships, he detected an incoming signal, and then heavy interference before passing out.

I hope that's okay. Regarding the mobile suits, I tried to make things balance out fairly evenly between the first and second-level suits. The Gundam Wiki states that the S-Gundam was developed from the Double-Zeta, but I think having a ZZ as my first suit was way too powerful. A mass-production Zeta seemed far more reasonable to me.
Disregard, I've changed the suits over, after a bit of consideration.

I also tried to tie big events in the UC into my characters background in an indirect way; that he was affect by them, rather than participating in them in a big way. I hope that came across well.
There's not much info about his personality, but I'm thinking he's fairly driven and aggressive, maybe a bit of a hothead, but can be reflective and learns quickly from his mistakes. We'll see how he comes out in the RP.

Any ideas on how to introduce them - I could use some guidance on that. Assuming he's approved, of course.
