The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Made the edits, as that was a good catch. It still reads okay with them in there too. And I also made my reply.

I think I will change over the suits to the Zeta and ZetaII, as they both seem pretty good, and it does make sense. I'll make the edits now. Thanks for the suggestion!

Also, as we're all (presumably!) Gundam fans, if you're not aware of it already, the first two episodes of 'Reconguista in G', the new series, are already out and available to watch with subs. I'm going to give it a look shortly. Be interesting to hear what people think. Also, the new Build Fighters series, 'Build Fighters Try' starts on the 8th, and I think it'll be available on the Gundaminfo channel on Youtube.
Rowan stood off to one side and stood to attention as the Lieutenant passed by, being sure to behave well, and make a good impression. He was encouraged by the other pilots' relatively friendly attitude and demeanour, and relaxed slightly, nodding as he mentioned not enjoying killing people.
"I'm glad to hear it," he commented in reply. "Good to know we have something in common, at least".
He gave a sheepish smile at the comment regarding the state of his suits' cockpit and gave a short laugh. "Ah, sorry about that - I guess I didn't notice it when I was piloting before. I'm either used to it, which is pretty grim, or I don't notice because I'm usually wearing a normal suit, or in space... Maybe I can scrub it out later on, heh."
He co-operated as he was patted down, assuming the position to be searched without prompting, and being sure to advise about the survival knife and personal swiss-army knife he carried before being searched. After being advised he could re-board the Zeta Plus, Rowan climbed back up into the machine.
"Thanks, Lieutenant. I'm glad everything is working out okay. Like I said, I'm not here to cause any undue trouble for anyone."
The Zeta Plus climbed back up into a standing posture with a whirring hiss of Mobile Suit machinery, eyes glowing as the machine came back to life. The head pivoted to follow Black Star's lead, waiting for further orders to proceed.

Also Silver It'd make more sense if you put the 'gundam pilot' instead of Paul or Black Star but I'll let it slide for now. Your character doesn't know Paul at this point in time.

D'oh, yeah. I didn't realize that he hadn't introduced himself directly. I think I got a bit confused there. I'll edit it to make more sense, as it'll annoy me otherwise. Thanks for pointing it out.

Rowan listened to the other pilots' orders carefully, impressed with the level of care being taken, and understanding it perfectly.
"Roger, Lieutenant. I'll put down right here so you can inspect my Mobile Suit. I'd do the same in your position, so I understand the need for being careful; don't worry - I don't hold a grudge against you for doing it. I'll co-operate fully with you."
Slowly decreasing the Zeta-Plus' throttle, he dropped in altitude back into the clearing Lieutenant Black Star had been waiting in, grasping the Beam Smartgun by the barrel with the suits' left manipulator and detaching it from the right arm as he descended, allowing the butt-end to rest on the ground as the machine settled to terra firma. As soon as it was solidly set down, he set the long-barrelled powerful weapon on the ground and put the mass-production Zeta variant into a crouch. Opening the cockpit hatch, he climbed out and waved to get the other pilots' attention.
"I'll leave my sidearm in the cockpit seat, and wait on the ground, okay? And I've left the Mobile Suit on standby for you to inspect. Most of its' weapons are built-in, so I can't do much about that, but they're there for you to take a look at. I think that's the best I can do for now, I'm afraid..."
Climbing down to the ground, he waited for the Lieutenant to come over, standing what he believed to be a safe distance back, and waiting for any further questions.

Also silver we're all waiting on you.

Sorry, I think I must've missed a reply going up in the IC. I'll get a post up now.

Also, I am still happy to change my mid-level suit if there are any suggestions for anything better/more suitable/etc.
I selected the S-Gundam as I've never had the opportunity to pilot it in an RP before, and it's always been a design I love the look of a lot, and I'm aware that it's canonically (sp?) a very powerful and sophisticated MS, so I thought it fit the power bracket well, especially moving onto the EX-S as a final suit, with it's I-Field, and other goodies. Apologies if I was wrong and it's made things awkward for planning. As I've said from the start, I'm eager and happy to work with the GMing team to make your lives easier, for plotting, just let me know how.

I'm also far more fond of UC-tech and canon than most of the AU's. I'm more familiar with the 'early' UC era than the 'late' (i.e. after Char's Counterattack/Unicorn) one. I really like Hajime Katoki's mecha designs, which was why I picked what I picked. That and I had the whole of Gundam to choose from, so I chose something I like.
Rowan's course had been well-plotted. Flying nap-of-the-earth, he'd dropped off of the radar, and weaved through valleys and followed the course of rivers, roads and other terrain to stay low as he'd approached the ship, only rising to altitude as he'd planned.
Interestingly to him, the area seemed relatively devoid of minovsky interference. This further pointed to this place being 'far from home', and that whatever the other mobile suits he may have seen were, they didn't necessarily operate on the same rules as his own machine, and those he knew well.
Before he could muse much further on the situation though, he was interrupted as his radar and other sensors picked up movement ahead. Forcing down the lump in his throat and hoping that whoever was out there didn't shoot first and ask questions later, he altered course to head for the blip, reducing his speed as he did so.

Moments later, he had a brief visual of a mobile suit. It was unfamiliar, but judging by the shape and the distinctive face, it was a Gundam of some kind, and blasted into the air on backpack thrusters to intercept him, a rifle pointed toward the aircraft-mode Zeta.
"Hey you there stop if possible! If you can't land on the ground! I am Lieutenant Black Star of OMNI Enforcer and you're in our camp territory surrender or fight me you're choice buddy!"

Rowan waggled the wings of the Zeta-Plus and changed mode with a shifting of limbs and wings, coming to a hover ahead of the mobile suit, and making sure both hands were pointed up, and the beam smartgun well away from the lieutenant.
"Lieutenant, please don't shoot - I surrender. I actually came here looking for you and your allies in this camp. I'll be glad to follow your orders, and those of your superiors and allies, and I have information about an impending attack by hostile forces. I'm Lieutenant Rowan Bracket, of the Earth Federation Forces. I was assigned to Task Force Alpha, before I ended up here. Now I'm trying to find anyone else who isn't Neo Zeon or allied with them".
He hoped the explanation made sense as he hovered in front of the other machine and it's pilot, waiting for an answer of some kind, or to be blown out of the sky. He was dearly crossing his fingers that it would be the first outcome, rather than the second.
The UCAV's zoomed and zipped around the squadron, like a swarm of angered hornets. Finally getting a look at one, they looked not unlike slightly smaller Birds of Prey, but pilotless and with longer, forward-swept wings. None seemed to have any missiles, and they primarily attacked with rapid-fire cannon, diving towards the Excalibur aircraft in pairs, one flying aggressively and attempting to force the targeted aircraft into the path of the second attackers' cannons.

Once the technique was noticed, it was - almost - understandable, and noticable.
Ariella, punching through the middle of the furball and lashing into one of the craft with a burst from her cannon, found herself in a momentary 'clear spot', away from the action.
Taking a breath and assessing the situation, she slid her visor up and glanced around - and blinked as she saw one of the drones, flying solo and with red-striped wings away from the others. Almost immediately, the robot aircraft pulled a mind-boggling manoeuvre in mid-air. The diminutive yet futuristic aircraft hauled into a turn that would liquify a flesh-and-blood pilot, bringing it's nose around toward her delta-winged jet as she rolled into a wing-over and dived for the cover of her allies.
A radar-warning sounded on Ariella's aircraft, and moments later there was a blinding flash.
The Israeli couldn't help herself; blinded and feeling as though the left side of her face and body were right atop an open fire, she screamed over the open channel, preparing to warn the others and instead her pain going out to them.
Reflexively trying to escape the sensation, she pulled the Kfir hard into a left banking turn. The plane responded well at first, before a wrenching scream of tortured metal rang through the airframe, and numerous warning sirens sounded damage to the aircraft.
Heartbeats later, almost as soon as it had begun, the - literally - blistering pain died away, but stars still swam in front of her eyes. Blinking rapidly, she managed to make an assessment: the Kfir was on its' last legs, and barely airborne. She might, if she was able to disengage now and take no further damage, make it away from the operational area and back to the vicinity of the Nimue, if she was lucky.
"This is Excalibur one," she called over the radio in a hoarse and rasping voice, finally breaking through the jamming for a few heartbeats. "I've taken serious damage from an unknown weapon. I am breaking to disengage. All Excalibur aircraft, break and exit the area, disengage and RTB!"

Miyoshi's shots gave them an opening: The cannonfire from the MiG-25 hit home, and one of the UCAV's was shredded and flipped end over end before exploding. The momentary disruption had some kind of effect. The remaining aircraft regrouped, almost like a flock of birds - and then, Jackson's missile, heralding his approach and arrival, hit home on another, thinning the flock further and evening the numbers as he and Jason arrived on the scene. The jamming abated somewhat, though the circling craft broke into groups again and began to dive toward the Excalibur squadron a third time, even as Ariella popped chaff and flares, and headed for the deck, throttle wide-open.
Well, post has just gone up. I elaborated on the location for you, so go for it.
And Asta did say he(?) was going to be sparse in appearances, due to circumstances. I'd just assume Arcade is doing as ordered until Asta's able to post. I'm sure that he won't mind if you do that.
Dust devils chased across the dry terrain of the Irrigation Facility ahead of Myrina and Arcades' GEARs. The terrain was mostly flat with a gentle roll to it and enclosed by hills on three sides. A few stunted, splayed-branched trees grew here and there, reaching at their best the head-height of the 20-foot GEARs, but too sparse to provide cover for much of anything.
The control station for the Irrigation Facility was at the opposite end of the 'canyon' (to give it a gracious name), a low, two-storey concrete building with flat roofs and narrow windows. Unlike most of the other buildings in the area, it was squat, grey, and gloomy-looking. Smaller outbuildings dotted the area, providing cover from the elements for the supposed workings of the irrigation facility. Water storage and collection tanks filled in other spaces, spread out over the plotted-out fields but still large enough to provide creative cover.

Something gleamed briefly in the shifting sunlight, at the rear corner of one of the large outbuildings, a good mile down the length of the spread-out area. Then everything fell back into stilness.

Meanwhile, Silverwind gave a brief 'affirmative' to Ken's request to drop the troops, leaving them free to conduct their business with the co-operation of the helo pilot. Below, shadows shifted within the depths of the 'crawlers, and a door flapped briefly in the downdraft from the rotors, dust swirling up in a haze.
