The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio
I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly. I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists. I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...
I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.
I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.
I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time. I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.
Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.
LOL, I've literally just finished editing the OP, so you might need to check it - I haven't seen your post yet, you must've done it while I was in the editor. Bad timing on both our parts, haha.
Kat's on her way and hears possible ground enemies are in-bound, and seeing as her plane's built just to counter that, responds.
My plane is primarily ground attack also. I might edit the post to have a little more info on what there is to tackle in terms of the hostiles, as it's a little vague.
Also, if everyone can actually speak to Scott when they turn up, rather than just diving straight in, that would be super.
OKAY!
The first post in the IC has been edited to be the first actual in-character game post. I started much the same a I did in the original Thunderbolt Black: With a bang!
The base is under attack, and you may have your characters either:
A) Be on the base and waiting for the briefing, and so be scrambled into the air
B) Be airborne on their way to the base, and be directed to join the air defence effort
Either way, have them reply to Scott's message, and once I get a round of replies, I'll get us into the furball, and from there into the bigger plot.
I thought a big exciting opening would be good - it gets the pace going from the start, and we all get to strut our stuff!
I imagine this being like the big 'pre-credits sequence' in a TV show or a movie. Some action at the start to draw the viewer/player in, and then a bit of working out what's happening and some associated drama, before the next exciting sequence.
New post is up, folks. It's not a long one, but it just keeps things running. Incubus, if you can make a post replying to Silver and then moving things on to the main cavern, and Cart if you'd like to do anything you want for a reply to the cruiser, then I'll make one finishing things off. You guys on the Claw are free to do whatever you'd like to carry on with your convo at will, too.
Also, Es, the RP sounds cool, but not really like my kind of thing. But if you think it's worth rebooting, it probably is!
"You have great timing. How many of you are there? We've got prisoners that need securing and extraction. We'll be taking one of them with us as a guide, it'd be nice to have some extra guns to help with freeing the hostages."
"Six altogether" replied the collie. "Four of us can take the prisoners. Two more could accompany you to bolster your firepower back up to numbers."
Moving quickly, she detached two men to go with Nathaniel and the others. They quickly introduced themselves as Rayers and Dolarhyde, a male lynx and female coati, both armed with standard gear and equipment. They set themselves onto the same radio channel as the others and fell in to follow their commands.
In the meantime, the rest of the security team rounded up the compliant prisoners and escorted them back the way they had come, leaving Jed to direct the rest of the group onward.
"Down the corridor," he said, looking up toward the GEAR. "There are side passages, but they're all collapsed or blocked only a few meters in. About five minutes walk along, the corridor sort of snakes-" he gestured in the air, describing an 's' shape - "and then opens out into the main cavern, on one side. There's a set of offices built into the wall there, that sort of stick out into the cavern. That's where the hostages and anyone else would be".
Back in the cavern, Blade still hadn't received an acknowledgement of his orders. Switching to the direct channel to Mike's GEAR, he tried again.
"Nawlin, are you there? What the hell is going on with the fireteam? Why isn't anyone answering my damn radio messages for updates and orders? I've got a fix on the hostages' location. The caverns are secured, and we have what might be the remainder of the bandits penned into a structure that needs a sweep-and-clear. If no one answers this time, I'm going to go in there myself and do it. What's the situation, over?"
He rolled his shoulders and bared teeth at the images on the monitor. The heat signatures inside the office complex hadn't moved much so far, but he could tell by the movement - pacing back and forth by a few, and staying still by a majority - that things were getting tense for the captors.
"This is the Landren Defense Force, you are trailing through a fire fight zone, identify yourself immediately."
There was squealing static for a few moments, before a voice with a hint of Northern accent replied.
"Greetings, LDF. We are an independent salvage trader, passing through this zone on route to Martenstown. We were not aware of the battle. Our ships' name is the Strike It Big. Is there any assistance we can provide, over?"
The ship continued under power, heading toward the south-east, more-or-less on course for Martenstown, as they were claiming.
Also, I edited my post's first paragraph to add a response to your infantry, Silver. That way it didn't feel shoehorned in my new post. <3
Cheers, m'dears. I'll wait for your post(s) and then get up appropriate replies as needed to move things on.
EDIT: Also, the game is now officially 1 year old, and we haven't rebooted, collapsed, or stopped for once. Well done to us!
Now, let's hope it keeps rolling, and we can move onto the next mission. This first encounter has taken most of that year already.
I've edited the opening post, so that it's a lot neater, and fits in with BBCode too, so we have hiders in there again :P
Though, I do miss those snazzy horizontal lines breaking everything up. If they get implemented too, I'll put some of them in as well...!
I don't think I'll edit my character/Aircraft sheet though... might be a bit of a mission.
Never mind, did it anyway and it wasn't too bad!
