The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

No rush guys, I'm running tabletop RP today anyway, and I start work on Monday so my posting frequency will go down a bit. Not to mention we're in downtime between missions anyway for a little bit.
New GM post is up for you all to react to! I made sure to make the enemies relatively tough, but not too much so for our first encounter. I also linked all the info on the things we're facing for everyone's convenience. I like that my posts now all also have a natty little 'GM' ribbon on them to make things easier to follow!
Scott let out a brief sigh of relief as he heard the other three pilots check in one by one. That would certainly make the prospect of hindering, if not outright halting, the amphibious force and their cover less daunting and far more achievable. "Roger, all callsigns," he replied to the other three pilots. "Glad to have you in the air. Stalin, good job on downing those two helos - two less for us to worry about. We'll sort out your positions in the squadron once things are ah, a little less 'exciting'. In the meantime, let's proceed as follows: Charnel, buddy up with Stalin. Both of you take care of the helos, and any fast-movers that show up. Kat; hit them from North to South. I'll position to hit them from West to East just after. Your run should shake them up enough for me to avoid taking too many hits, and to get a good BDA on your first pass. Then we'll reposition for a run in tandem depending on the results. Glad you're all here, pilots - I think this is going to be a pretty busy morning". Scott's mention of fast-movers was on the money; moments later the radio channel came to life as the radar showed two new inbounds at a higher altitude. "Black Knights, this is control - be advised, we show two hostiles moving in to your area. Looks to be two MiG-35's. Stay alert, over" "Roger," replied Scott with a grimace. The MiG-35 was no easy opponent at the best of times, in the best of aircraft. He was confident that his new allies could at least keep them off of their backs, if not swat them out of the skies. Angling his aircraft toward the approaching fleet, he got a better look at them at long range, and St Helen called out the radars' identification of the craft as she followed their movements. "Four helicopters remaining; looks to be two Ka-52's... could be dangerous, they're super-manoeuvrable and can carry air-to-air missiles. Seems like we've got two troop-carriers as well, look like Panthers, they might be armed too. Swimmers look like BHT'sin military config. Watch out for triple-A or shoulder-launched SAM's. APC's look like AAV's, more small-arms to worry about from them". "Great ID of the targets," he replied to his co-pilot, raising an eyebrow under his visor as he rolled the Super Tomcat out into his approach. "Kat, ready for your run. We'll commence our attack as soon as you pull out of your own. Watch for triple-A and SAMs, over". High above, the two MiG's broke into a descending bank, circling lower toward the battle, hunting for the Black Knights' aircraft. Sighting Stalin and Charls' planes, they dived in toward them from on high, staggered in their formation and separation to pounce on the waiting jets and their pilots.
New post is up finishing off the mission. Everyone's free to post up returning to base, and seeking out anyone aboard the ship they'd like, or to be antisocial and avoid everyone if you'd like to do that instead. I'll get the debrief up and running once we've got another round of posts. FYI, I'm starting work full-time again on Monday, so I'll be down to one or two posts IC a week, though that's about what we're on at the moment anyway. And I'll try and check the site every other day or so to keep up with the OOC and PM's as well.
Nathaniel and Naida turned the prisoners over, glad to be rid of the extra burden, while the supplementary members of the fireteam formed up. The guide lead them onward at a cautious pace, though there was little in the way of surprises to be found. This deep into the mine, there was more evidence of habitation - the tunnels back here seemed to be used more heavily by the bandits. Bedrolls, camp cots and other flotsam of living were tucked into nooks and crannies. Weapon racks and tools crowded other spaces, and the smells of people, cooking and machinery coiled together with dry rock. The area was dimly lit, and Jed slowed down as a brighter light hinted at the tunnel opening up. "The main cavern is ahead," he declared, turning back to look at all of them. Nathaniel and Naida exchanged glances and looked up to Mike. IFF tags pulsing 'friendly' were reading strong from ahead, issuing from the GEARs of the other Roughriders, and as Mike and the others came into range, their tags popped up on the screens of Silverwinds' C3I suite, as well as the others' systems. "Afternoon," drawled the vulpine, deadpan, as they moved into the main area. "Situation is as I said: Six potential hostiles in the enclosed office space. Got them on thermal, along with four non-moving personnel which might be the hostages, or more bandits. Nathaniel, Naida and the security team reacted smoothly. Taking the feed from Blades' IR scan, they plotted a breach-and-clear through the visors on their combat helmets and their PADDS, before stacking up on the door. At a 'go' from Nathaniel, they lobbed flashbangs from the security team through the door, and swept in with force and awe. The automatic gunfire and booms of shotguns resounded through the cavern for a few moments, along with loudly yelling voices as the Roughrider fireteam took down the opposition. Silverwind streamed the action to the others' monitors. For his own part, he remained silent but kept glued to the screen in case of anything missed by the team, or any moment he could offer assistance in any way. But they were clearly the professionals in this matter; all of the tangoes went down with little fuss. Moments later, Nathaniels voice confirmed it: "All targets down, no prisoners this time. Hostages are secured; looks like we've got good intel here too. No signs of any other bad guys either". With a whooshing sigh Blade toggled the comms. "Roger that, excellent work in there. All units, all targets are secured. No other hostiles in the area, stand down". Blade switched the monitor back to regular light, and popped the hatch on the Harlock stepping it back and lowering the gun at last. Shortly, they'd have a chance to return to the relative comfort of the Landcruiser, though there'd be debriefings and other post-mission dissections of action to carry out. At least they wouldn't be under gun barrels, and no-one was liable to die or be wounded. This hadn't been an easy mission, and in part, that was due to the many things about it that raise questions with no clear answers. Where did the bandits get all of their hi-tech gear? Who were the others that showed up and fought outside the mine? Where did the artillery barrage come from? He grimaced and his ears flattened. Hopefully, either the intel or the prisoners would provide some answers. "Good job everyone," he said after a few moments, his voice proud, but tired. "Y'all really came through when it counted. Especially with us men down. Security team is movin' in ta take care of the prisoners. As soon as they're here, we'll RTB. Take a couple of hours to shower, eat, and wind down. We'll debrief in our crew lounge; we have all we need there for it". As he spoke, a utility vehicle rolled up an debussed a half-dozen more security team members; normally the people who were cooks, clerks and other low-ranking bodies aboard the ship, but strapped on weapons and armour when needed. They secured the hostages and began to police up the weapons, ammo and other equipment left lying around, or to process the prisoners left behind. Blade turned the GEAR around, and lead the way back to the Landcruiser, and past the mine entrance. "Claw, this is Blade. We're returning to ship. Notify the other members of the Roughriders we're coming in, and to prepare for a debrefiing - if they're able - in a couple of hours, over". "Roger, Blade. The captain says good work, and she'll speak to you later regarding the mission. Control, out". The tired vulpine marched the GEAR down the hillside, and into the open maw of the Claw's bay. People and machines swarmed everywhere, salvaging parts from the enemy GEARs, cataloguing equipment, detailing prisoners into work-parties and otherwise making things look busy. Parking his GEAR in a stall, Blade shut the machine down and climbed out, wincing at the aches he felt. It had only been a few hours, but it felt like weeks or even months since he'd climbed into the cockpit. He waved to Irry, Mike and Adrian as they climbed out of their machines, before he rode the elevator to the floor, and headed for the stairwell to the upper floors and their squadrons' rooms.
I am sure we are fine. Can you hold your landcrawler for a minute? I'll get back to you shortly."
"Roger", replied the same voice again. "We're fixed on this course, and will drop our speed to slow. Is there a problem, LDF? Over".
"Air to tower uhh.. The landcrawler is heading southbound to Martsenstown. Seems like a northern guy or something was on the radio, and I am not sure if I relayed that SAM warning the system popped up briefly... Possibly a glitch but I'm going ahead and attempting a thermals sweep. Will return once the sweep is complete."
On the bridge of the Claw, Captain Garrett leaned up from behind the comms officer, an annoyed look on her face. Things were not going well today. "We can't detain them without any reason," she mused out loud to the comms officer. "And there's too much underway here to just pick up and relocate to the landcruiser anyway." She gave a huff of annoyance at the situation. "Tell him to RTB for now - we have their name and destination. We can always follow it up after the squadron have debriefed and we've sifted through the intel we've got". "Yes m'am." She leaned forward once again and spoke into the headset, calling Ken back. "Maxwell, this is CIC. Claw boss recommends you RTB for the current time. We have nothing to hold them on for now. The rest of the squadron are RTB too. Head on home, we'll be waiting. CIC, out".
No problems - please don't feel like I'm rushing you though. I was just stating how/when I intend to move things on. Oh, and for future reference (although Esailia and MachineSoul will know this from having played in games run by me before) THERE IS NO POSTING ORDER. I find posting orders unnecessarily slow down play/posting if we have to wait for people.
Voltus, your character looks good so far, but could you please post them in the characters tab, even as a WIP Machine, your post was fine - I'll reply to it, and the others also, once Urukhai has a post up too. Though, if Voltus and Phoenix get characters finished and posts in shortly, then I'll get one up after that.
Certainly is - as you can see, we've only just started. One thing I will say - this is a game that's intended to run for the long term. There will be quiet moments and it will be as heavy on the character interaction and plotting as it will be on the action. It's not going to be constant flying and blowing things up all the time. So, if you think you're likely to get bored and drop out, then you might want to think about that before joining. Not trying to put you off, but just trying to avoid players who join, and then make only one or two posts before dropping out. I've had that happen far, far too often. If that all sounds good to you otherwise though, read the OOC intro, get a character up, and get involved. I'll be posting a few more bits and pieces of OOC info throughout the game to add to the background too.
Ta very much, haha. I'll give Machine and Urukhai a chance to post before I get a reply up myself. Good intro post though!
LOL, I've literally just finished editing the OP, so you might need to check it - I haven't seen your post yet, you must've done it while I was in the editor. Bad timing on both our parts, haha.
