The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

I've edited my posts so that I've magically been flying a Super Tomcat since the start of the game, and that it's also reflected on my character sheet. Also, my latest post in character reflects the arrival of the new characters during the earlier battle, and Scott speaking to them on the radio too - that way, everything should slot together neatly when the next round of posts go up. Hurrah for the edit button!
I was thinking I might go for an SMG again - they're one of my personal favourite kinds of weapons, and my airsoft G36 put me off of them a bit in general (though I know the real one is more capable). Maybe an MP5 again, as I'm fond of them. A UMP wouldn't be too bad either, though I'm not aware of the SAS using them to any extent. Sidearm wise, I'll stick with a Mk.23 as well, and whatever survival/combat knife I had before, and a suitable selection of grenades. Probably no need for AT this time, but I'll pack a LAW if possible, 'just in case'.
I did mean to get an OOC post up tonight, but I ran out of time due to RL commitments, and then writing a mammoth post for another RP that took a little bit of researching to get right. @Silverwind Blade *scratches head* You... just.. did.
I meant an IC post... that was right before I went to bed. I just... *headdesk*
So can my character fly an f18?
Fictional aircraft are not available for use. This would include things such as the Ace Combat 'super planes', like the Morgan or XFA-44 and others, along with planes such as the Yukikaze, or the Firefox. Fictional aircraft of any other kind, such as those on DeviantArt or otherwise, are also not available. Real-world aircraft are perfectly allowed, and preferred. Models of aircraft that did not make it into full production, such as the YF-23 Black Widow, F-20 Tigershark or the SU-47 would be allowed to be used, and can be assumed to have had at least limited production in the world of Thunderbolt Black. If you can find some statistics and info on the aircraft, then it will be considered for use in the game, unless it's incredibly obscure, or completely unbalancing or impractical for long-term playing alongside others (for example, the armed versions of the SR-71 Blackbird). Ask if you're not sure.
The F-18 is neither fictional, nor incredibly obscure, unbalancing, or impractical. It fits in perfectly with all of the other aircraft we have, and the game rules as well - I'm not really sure why you needed to ask? Yes, you may of course use an F-18 Hornet, Superhornet or EF-18 Growler. Any and all of them are perfectly acceptable aircraft for the game. Regarding getting your characters involved, I can see you've more than adequately resolved the issue already - I'll edit my post to include notice by Scott of your characters joining the formation when I edit later today regarding my own aircraft too. It'll be a bit jumbled up, but it'll keep the chronology intact, and then you can meet up with everyone else at the same time with ease. I'll also include mention of your pilots being directed to join the Black Knights as well - the idea in my head, and as fits in with my first IC post, is that all the PC's (player characters) would have been due to join the squadron today, and been notified as such... our home-base being surprise attacked sort of got in the way though, as you'd expect it to.
Yeah, I like that we're getting these character vignettes in, a chance to get a good look at more of their personalities and mentalities, as well as their combat-selves too. It's something I've been eager to do, and I think this is a perfect moment for it - kind of the calm before the storm, or even the first rumblings of it as it comes in. I think both posts so far have been excellent, and I'm sure Skyth's will be just as good too. Getting more of a look 'under the hood' of all of the characters will be good. One thing that would be cool, is if before everyone sets out, we get a chance to just actually talk to each other. Maybe a sort of 'one last moment' thing before everyone put their game faces on. Not sure what they'd say, but it might be nice, somehow. Especially as it's never really happened. Not sure what you think of that? I'm not meaning tearful hugs all around, but maybe just a few words between everyone before they head out. I could have Scott open it up - he wears his heart on his sleeve the most of everyone, I think.
Yeah, I think I'll edit my sheet a bit... and maybe my opening post ¬.¬ Have the A-6 be 'this is what we could find, your plane was on the carrier' instead :P
Yeah, the only 'downside' is having to have a second character. It's the same with my a/c too. But the C is a good choice too - not as much in the way of air-to-ground weapons other than unguided ones, but it's a hell of a machine for air-to-air combat, especially the latest versions with upgraded avionics. Good choice of aircraft! I might change my plane shortly... the A-6 is good, but I feel like it's not something I want long-term. A tomcat on the other hand... Added your character to the list of characters in the OP. Feel free to jump into the IC as soon as you like. Much like Swifttalons' character, assume you've been briefed that you'll be joining the Black Knights, and are currently waiting for us to land so we can all attend the briefing together. You can be on the carrier deck watching the recovering aircraft, or elsewhere on the carrier, either with each other or separately, it's up to you. Or, you could be coming in to land yourselves, after being directed here from the island following the attack.
Looks good to me! I like the character, I think he'll be a really good addition to the group in terms of his personality. Another outgoing and enthusiastic person is always welcome, and I think his attitude will be a good change to the others. Regarding the sheet, I do have only one question - which mark of F-15 is he piloting, as there are quite significant differences between some of them - the F-15E Strike Eagle, for example, is almost a completely different plane than the F-15C, which is focused on Air Superiority. And then you get into the foreign versions (like the F-15K 'slam eagle') which are different again. I'm not trying to be picky, just making sure I know, and that you do too - knowing what I'm dealing with when planning out missions means no-one gets left with nothing to do! Also, I don't mind which version you pick either - it's completely up to you :) (Although I do love the Strike Eagle...)
I did mean to get an OOC post up tonight, but I ran out of time due to RL commitments, and then writing a mammoth post for another RP that took a little bit of researching to get right. However, I will get an OOC up for GEARs tomorrow evening.
I got my own novel up. It took me a while to write it, and I'm still not convinced that it's that right - especially with Victoria and Scott's conversation and how she relays the info to him and where - but I really like it reading it back, and the atmosphere of it, so I hope you do too. If you think it needs to be changed, then let me know and I'll do it. I had fun writing it though, and I really liked giving a long look at Scott's life and attitude in a post as well.
