The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

free is good, the only problem is its all recycled with animes and zombies. then when something new if up or a new GM steps up no one goes for it.
I'd agree that Free it has it's good points, and it's popularity speaks for itself, but as a section it's really not for me. Like you said, there's a lot of recycled ideas. And personally, the grammar, spelling and general standard of posts in there range from making my eyes bleed and up. The comment about something new coming up and no-one going for it could apply to any section as well. There's a lot of very unusual, original and different ideas all over the forum, but often people aren't willing to take a chance on them. I'm not saying I'm a saint and I give everything a try. I'm as fussy in my interests as the next guy, but those ideas are out there.
That's why it's better to challenge yourself, Master Free, then move to casual Master that and then Advanced
I've never felt the need to participate in an RP in free, and I'm comfortable where I am in Casual. If an RP came up in Advanced that I was interested in/wasn't already full, then I'd go for it. It wouldn't make me feel as though I had to stop posting in my Cas RP's though. I like the system of having different 'tier' RP's, but I do feel like it creates a lot of arbitrary snobbery and people doubting/questioning their abilities on the guild as a whole.
Yeah, I'm pleased we've managed to have it go continuously for that long, and that we're still going too.
Saturday morning here in the UK. Sun's out, though it's another cold morning. Got plenty of chores to get on with this morning, then editing my podcast for prospective release on Sunday Evening/Monday evening. Went to my local model-making clubs' monthly meet last night, that was a good end to the week, and had a couple of beers and watched some Family Guy while doing some story notes for my novel when I got back. Off to the cinema with my GF tonight to see Chappie as well. How're all you guys this weekend?
Yeah, no worries - you can always come back to it later on!
I frequently google anything and everything I need to make a post more authentic - terminology, geography, names of towns, bases, weapons, and any number of other things. I don't know how I'd manage without it.
I love the idea of Advanced, but I have yet to find an RP in that section I've wanted to join in with, as I'm quite fussy, and pressed for time. Casual is where all of my RP's and the others I've dipped into and out of have been. The ones I run could - by agreement of all of the players - easily be Advanced due to the detail of their background and the average length and depth of posts. I've only glanced over free in the past, and I wouldn't want to participate in anything in there - the lack of the same depth and complexity of the RP's puts me off, and I couldn't keep up with the speed-posting either.
Really Freaking Slow
+1
On second thoughts, I think I'm going to drop out of this. It's slightly too wacky and far-fetched for me, and I have too many RP's on my plate at the moment as it is. Hope it goes well though.
If I were to take an aircraft that has a two person crew (the current one I have in mind does), would it be permissable to take two characters as a team (pilot and WSO)? Or should I have one, and hand-wave the other crewman's role being taken over by the advanced technology? Also, as I am quite the aviation enthusiast, I'll probably use real-world terms for most of my weaponry, but then include the game terms in brackets afterward, if that's okay? Sheet will likely by up tomorrow evening, as I have work etc. to worry about first >.>
It's not so much impatience and I'm eager to keep things moving fast. I know it's only been a day, and I as much as anyone am aware that RL can get in the way, and writers' block is a real and irritating thing. I guess I'm just excited about getting the group off and moving into our first proper mission, and getting the plot and story out there, especially now we have a bigger group to play with. I'm sure it'll come together, I just need to have a little patience!
