The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Got my post up in reply, sorry it took a little longer than before, but I'm pleased enough with it. It keeps things moving, and I had fun with the descriptions in it, and making my reactions. Really excited to see things still moving along quickly, and getting towards the big finale.
Blade hit the comms again after sending his message to Kuraiko and the others on his team, updating Mike and Aidan on the developments.
"Prowler, Sykes, this is Blade. We've got some action kicking off; Aihara's located the Northerners on the Eastern side of town. I'm sending his GEAR to him, along with the fireteam and Irry for support. Maxwell will be moving to cover us once he's airborne. We'll make a recon of the situation on the West side, and then plan our movements accordingly. Keep me updated on any new developments, out".
He turned back to Adrian as he increased pace, motioning for him to continue talking as they walked in the direction of the warehouse district.

“Captain, I just had a thought,” he said, “If that’s the Imperial princess, and the folk after them are from the Empire, why are we getting involved? A lot of this has skimmed over my head. I mean, what do we do when we’ve found the guest of honor?”

"Mighty good question, an' yer right to ask it," he replied as he walked rapidly along the streets. "It comes down to what I said in th' briefin', an' what we know about the Empires politics: I mentioned the Emperor and his daughter don't always get along, sure. An' that she's the moderate one in all situations as well. Bearin' that in mind... she ain't ever decided to run away from home before, An' it's sure runnin' - because it wasn't, she wouldn't be hidin' out with the regular folks, or have the search-and-destroy team right on her ass either. And gunnin' for her, not lookin' ta capture her. Nah, man... she's lookin' fer someone or somethin', and she got side-tracked. And this third group, whoever they are, I reckon they know somethin' too an' want in on it. Which means, Landren is gettin' caught in the middle, so we wanna head it all off before it gets worse, I reckon".
Do Aiden and Mike here blades trtransmission?

No, I hadn't intended it to be to the full squad, only to Kuraiko, Ken and Es.
Though, it does make sense that he should inform the others. I'll edit the post and put a second call from him to Mike and Aidan explaining the new developments.

Edit: or, alternatively, I can reply to Ramzam's post and include it in that! Woo!
Scott's pulse pounded and his breath was quick and shallow with the continuous movement and exertion of rushing through the building at such a frantic pace. Only moments had passed, and already they'd slotted almost two dozen of the opposition, and he'd burned through two P-90 magazines. Swapping out one of the long, flat cassette-like mags, he could feel his frustration rising, much like Zhenya's; they'd been working hard, and still no sign of the prize as yet. He looked up as Jan expertly despatched another hostile, and moved out of cover to follow the squad leader into the next evolution of the mission.

As the flashbang went off at the door, the burly SAS trooper rolled around the doorframe, the PDW up and already at his shoulder firmly. Someone right in front of him loomed out from behind a filing cabinet, and he slammed his boot firmly into their stomach, sending them clattering back against the furniture, before drilling two rounds into their torso. Another pair got precise shots through the neck and chest, before he hissed a curse and ducked, AK rounds sendind plasterboard and plywood chips across his arms and face. He fired a short burst with the '-90, driving the attacker back into cover behind a desk, which he riddled with rounds, the gunman sprawling out.
At the command to look around, Scott began to search the space, checking for something, anything that might give them a clue, or any unforseen door or hole in the wall hidden behind a suitable piece of furniture. Nothing emerged, and he turned back to the others as the wall imploded. Yelling in alarm, Scott crouched, folding his arms over his face and head, but still getting a faceful of brick-dust and peppered with splinters of glass.
Brushing himself off and picking out some of the larger shards - and thanking himself nothing vital had been severed - he looked up wide-eyed and angry, coughing out what seemed like a builders' yard worth of bricks.
Jan immediately took charge of the situation as Scott wiped dust from his face and eyes, rinsing his mouth with water and spitting it to the ground as he moved over to the gaping hole in the wall, tying his cord off and hesitating a moment.
"Hang on, idea," he called back, before jamming his knife into one of the plastic cable conduits running around the room. Lifting up the cover with a splintering crack, he pulled on the cables inside, quickly unreeling as much of the brightly-coloured material as he could, and tying it off with the cord. "Won't be much good, but it'll help for long enough," he explained, before testing the tied-together cord and cable with a sharp tug.
At Jan's word, he nodded and clambered over the jagged edge of the hole, lowering himself down quickly and carefully, gritting his teeth as he expected the ghetto climbing rope to go at any moment. Miraculously making it to the street, he quickly scuttled for cover behind the nearest heavy object; a kerbside recycling dumpster. Bullets were already flying their way, and he gamely returned fire, keeping heads down for the benefit of the others, more than anything else. "I'm down," he called back up. "I'll keep the cover fire up!"
"You seem to think you know quite a big deal about us, huh? Well, I'd like to know more about you, Sugarfluff. You say you're alone, then, we hear you talkin' with a friend? It don't smell good. With who did he want to make contact, why wasn't he so sure about it, hm? Or we don't get to know that part of the deal? You'd better tell your buddy that if he wants his own goons to get what he wants, her little princess' gotta start talkin'."

The mink crossed her arms and adopted an awkward expression. "Honestly? If I tried to explain you'd think I was crazy. There is no 'deal'. My um..." she creased her brows and shook her head absently "...friend, and I are the only two working together right now. I have considerable financial resources thanks to him, but it's literally just the two of us. So yes; I need your help more than you need mine, because I have no firepower, no GEARs, no anything other than his far-reaching intel resources and financial clout. And he was the one who was sure, I was the one who wasn't. Mainly because of this-" she gestured to the conversation "-and trying to convince you both I'm not trying to fuck you over or that I'll stab you in the back at the first chance. If you want to know who I am, then I'll be happy to tell you: My name is Kellia Moynen. I was an independent security contractor from the independent state of Tarsus before I got all wrapped up in this, and ended up half-way across Arvara. I found out some of what the Princess has, and the rest was filled in by my 'friend'. Now, I want to meet up with her, as she has information I need, and vice versa. And I think the people who have her at the moment have pretty bad plans for the information she's got as well. Not to mention her father, too". She spread her palms wide. "That's all I've got. So...?"

Aidan and Mike's PADDS both buzzed as she finished talking, with the sound of an incoming call. The caller ID read '0000/0000/0000', a root ID from the 'net.
The message was text and image only, showing the inside of the warehouse on the west side of town, the princess secured in a room and several personnel, all fine-looking physical specimens with advanced combat armour and weaponry, along with sleek, unrecognisable and advanced GEARS. In addition, pictures of Blade, Adrian, Kuraiko and Maxwell were attached from surveillance cameras, along with the Parvan's Claw in dock.
The text itself read
"Please do not be alarmed. I mean you no harm, and am not looking to cause upset. My concern is for the information carried by the princess, and your intentions of securing her, as they are in the best interests of Landren and Arvara. I advised Kellia to make contact with you, as it best met these aims. I will aid you as best I can, but there are others working against me as well as you".

Blade muttered a curse as he heard Kuraiko's words over the comms channel. "You wanna lissen to yerself fer a minute, Aihara? You've just told me there's a whole team of Imp Special Forces and their GEARs in that warehouse, and you wanna go in there like some kina fucking action hero? They'll turn you inta meat confetti. We have a second lead on the west side too. Stay Put, and do not move in. We had enough casualties last time out, or did you forget that? I'm callin' it in to the Claw now. Stand by, and that's an order!"
Switching channels, he called back to the landcruiser. "Claw, this is Rider Actual. Looks like we've found the nest. Unfortunately, all the bad guys are home, and they don't look to be wantin' visitors. Transmitting position data now. We're gonna need our toys, and the authorities need ta be informed too, over".
There was a pause, before the captains' voice answered. "Roger, Rider Actual. We'll begin sending the message now. Looks like the hostiles are located in an area relatively free of civilians. We'll begin remote deployment of assets to that location, ETA zero-five. But recommend falling back, as the unit will be outnumbered, and we can't provide accurate cover-fire from this distance and in a built-up area".
"Roger that. I'll inform the people on site of what to expect. We are moving in on possible second location as well, will keep you informed. Actual, out".
He switched back channels, and spoke to Kuraiko again. "Aihara, it's Blade. Control are remote deploying your GEAR. It should be air-dropped to you within five minutes. The rest of the fire-team and Irry will be there soon after too, to provide support. Maxwell, you listening? Once the GEAR is dropped, your co-pilot will be inbound from the Claw with your bird fully armed. I think we need eyes and friends in the sky if this gets ugly; having you up there to give us firepower and overwatch could make a helluva lot of difference".

In the bay of the Claw, things stepped up a pace. Crews ran to lift Aihara's GEAR to the helicopter pad, prepping it to be underslung beneath the Claws' sole medium-lift tilt-rotor, and ready for a quick boarding. Moments after, Irry skidded down a ladder from the catwalks leading to the inside of the ship and dashed over to Edward, Naida and Nathaniel, her pilot suit fully buttoned up and helmet under one arm.
"New orders - we're to move out and support Aihara and Captain Sprinstream. They've located the position of the Imperial Special Forces in the town. They're equipped with a full unit of military GEARs, so you guys, me and Aihara are to try and stop them from causing too much damage to the town, and from getting to the 'package' on the west side. I'll be following you as we move to their location, and Kuraiko's GEAR is being airlifted into position!"

She boarded her machine a few instants after, the ramp at the head of the bay cycling down. The machine unlocked from its' stall, and she waited for the team to board their ATV before moving off at a pace to keep level with it, providing an all-round scan of the area and feeding it through to the vehicles' dashboard as she moved. Overhead, the tilt-rotor lifted off, Kuraiko's GEAR suspended beneath as it banked for the Eastern Sector of the town.
also, it's fine Silver. Sometimes you just want to focus on other things :3

Unless your like that one guy whom made a roleplay and quit mid-first mission and then did it again when he remade it.

then it's not fine

No, I actively try to avoid doing that unless there's no other options. If you take a look at GEARs, linked in my sig, it's been running for well over a year. And the version on the previous Guild before it exploded had been running for longer than that, in one form or another. It only ever stopped before due to people repeatedly dropping out at key points.
Like I said, sorry if it's disappointing to anyone, but right now I just have other stuff I want to do more, and this is the easiest thing to drop at the moment. Plus my mojo ain't workin' for it right now either. So, I'm going to retire it for the moment, and then if things change another time I'll re-start it from scratch.

Thanks again for playing so far, and hope you enjoy your other games in the meantime. Bye for now, boys and girls!
Sorry folks, but I think I'm going to shut this one down. At the moment I'm finding myself with far less free time to pursue hobbies other than RP, and even with once-a-week posts by me, this is still too much of a draw on the time I do have. Not mention, I've kind of lost my motivation for it for various reasons I'm not going to go into. Having a bunch of people drop out right at the beginning after the int-check, and then more of the core cast shortly after that certainly didn't help - although, I don't particularly blame anyone for it; RL always takes priority, and that's as it should be. It can kill a game more easily than anything though, especially as far as motivation is concerned.

Sorry if you're all disappointed, but I really just want more time to do other things at the moment. I'll be sticking with GEARs as the only RP I'm running right now, and probably the only one I'll participate in for the meantime also.
If you want to start another RP like this yourselves, you're more than welcome to do so. However, I would please ask that you don't use this setting and my ideas, as I'd like to keep them around in case I wish to run TB another time.
I am jealous of you. you live in the UK.

you don't have to pay 12% on shipping :l

True, but we have a lot less specialist stores in towns, cities and neighbourhoods by comparison to the US. I'm lucky; I live in a student city, so there are two comic shops and several model shops here. However, their stock is limited (for example, none of the model shops stock any anime-related merch, and same for the two comic shops), which means while I'd love to support my local businesses more, I'm forced not to simply because they don't stock any of the things I'm interested in.

And if it's 12% shipping for GW stuff, I wouldn't be buying it anyway - their prices are absurd to the point of being robbery anyway, which is one of the many reasons I don't play 40k or any of their other games any more.
Would taking a trip to 'inspect' the new forward airbase during one of her breaks with Spirit be too free-spirited for a person on the alert-crew?

Well, considering alert means you need to be standing by your aircraft ready to scramble, it'd be kind of irresponsible.
Also, I hadn't really planned on any of the A-37's being in serviceable condition. If you want one that badly, change your aircraft to an A-37 and I'll write it in.

Can anyone recommend a good dropper bottle? my paints keep drying up....

and I also need some good dropper bottles for my Minitaire paints I'm going to be getting

I don't use dropper bottles - I have screw-top jars for my Tamiya paints, and if I'm brush-painting I use a palette with a small amount of paint, and do the jar up in-between uses.
If I'm using GW paints (I use their metallics on occasion, and I'm using up the last of their other paints I have left over from my wargaming days), then I do the same: use a palette with a small amount, and close the jar between uses.
I bought the palette from a cheap budget shop that had some art supplies. You can use old tiles, an old plate, or anything else similar. Even an old plastic lid from a tub works.
When it comes to modelling tips, btw, for wargaming or otherwise, Google is your friend. I've picked up loads and loads of useful tips on using household items for modelling that avoids spending hundreds (if not more) of pounds on overly expensive specific kit.
