The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio
I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly. I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists. I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...
I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.
I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.
I'm 44 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time. I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.
Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.
I'll get a summary of plot events up ASAP, as alas I don't quite have time to do it right now. I think only about a month and a half at maximum has actually passed in game time. It's probably actually significantly less than that, which is one of my issues with things dragging so far.
The docs linked at the beginning of the OOC cover world history as it still stands, and it hasn't changed so far.
@Silverwind Blade Mind if I give some life to a small monarchy that was forcibly annexed by the Empire in my new char's bio?
Sure thing, that would work. A few more independent states would fit in nicely, as I intend for us to visit a few more of them in the future. I was also planning on doing a map of Arvara shortly, so if you let me know where it is, I can put it on there (well, other than being somewhere north of Landren).
Just remember that Arvaran history is actually very short, and it's an artificially created society, so there aren't really a lot of customs, rituals, etc. However, I can see a monarchy arising from a family being influential and charismatic in a particular community or territory.
From my understanding the mechs take a more realistic approach, I'm picturing the Titans from Titanfall. Would that be a close approximation?
I don't know much about Titanfall, as I haven't played the game (I don't currently own a next-gen console). But from what I have seen of the mecha from that game, then sure. That, Gundam (Especially the Universal Century series and excluding G-Gundam), Macross, Patlabor, VOTOMS - basically anything where the mecha are mass-produced weapons of warfare equipped with recognisable weaponry and equipment, rather than flashy super-attacks, summoning your mecha, and fighting the monster-of-the-week. Or shouting. Lots of shouting.
The info sheet about the GEARs in the OP has all the info you'll need about how they fit into the setting and their characteristics. This TV Tropes page has some good info too.
It's not looking likely I'll manage to get an IC post up tonight, due to over-running on other things I had to do. I'm busy with birthday celebrations until Sunday afternoon, so I'll try and get one up then. Sorry for the delays.
I'm not rebooting, it's the same plot that you were in before, and the same game; it's just that I need some more players and characters right now, as the game is grinding so, so slowly, and we're down to a ridiculously small number of personnel, considering we started with so many. It's actually making it hard IC to justify why the squad is still a thing, considering we've lost so many people.
I know your RP style and quality, and I really liked your previous character and playing alongside you in other games, so you'd definitely be welcome to come back.
I'll be introducing any new characters - providing I get them - after the current mission is over, and the crew and the ship relocate to a base to take on new GEARs and new personnel, as well as some other developments IC.
Glad you think so. Feel free to ask any questions you want or need to, and I or one of the others would be happy to answer.
I'm sorry about that. I meant to do better, I really cannot explain how bad I feel for ruining the experience. I know I hate it when this happens, when you lose interest in something you really adore, but PC access is hard for me as of late and most of my lurking (including this ooc post) is on my phone.
It's okay man, it's not just you, or anyone in particular. It gets frustrating when everyone says they're super-excited and they love the game and can't wait for more... and then there's two weeks of silence. Especially when I'm throwing out the new plot, and people are getting cold feet about it, instead of charging in with glee. I know there's a lot of RL stuff on everyone's plate as well - mine included - so that can't help. But let's hope we can keep things moving after the next couple of posts.
My GEARs RP has been running in its' current incarnation for somewhat over a year on this incarnation of the forums, and has had several reboots and incarnations before that; primarily due to players dropping out and the pace slowing down to a virtual crawl.
The game is currently lacking in players and pace, due to - presumably - RL concerns for those still involved, and the number of active participants has more than halved since it started. As such, I'm looking to replace the gaps with a few more mecha pilots who are reliable posters.
The game is casual, but there is a lot of background material and depth, on par in my opinion, with some of the more advanced games on the forum. As the mecha go, it is inspired by and themed after the more anime side of things, and skewed toward the Real Robot genre rather than the super robot one (i.e., more Universal Century Gundam than Gurren Lagann). And even then, the tech level in the setting as a whole is much lower than Gundams' own.
Yes, the characters are furries. No, they do not act 'cute', or use any other stupid furry slang or do goofy, funny things. It is a sci-fi setting, with the fact the characters are anthropomorphic creatures being an integral part of the background and the ongoing plot.
Despite the game having run for as long as it has, delays in posting and the slow response times have meant that the game is seriously bogged down, and there hasn't been as much progress in the plot as I would like, so if you do wish to join, you won't have missed too much. My intention is to get things moving much quicker from hereon in.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here or PM me, or go over to the main OOC thread for the game, where all the info is stored.
Given the fact that we've lost half of the original players we started the game with, and that the actual number of GEARs in the unit is now so small - out of five players (as we've had another drop out) we have three mecha - which seems a bit off-balance considering the damn game is SUPPOSED to be about mecha combat, I'm going to open us up for some recruitment, and post a new int-check.
Also I have no idea what's happened to Es, so I'll put her characters on the back-burner and NPC them in the next post, just to get us past this goddamn scene which has dragged out way, way, way longer than it was meant to. Hopefully having a few more players will get the activity back up, because these dragging two weeks between posts is killing my enjoyment of the game at the moment. Especially since I originally had the rule of one post per week, which seems to have gone so far out the window I can't even see it anymore.
Whelp! A full week of silence.. Not even one OOC post.
Nothing I needed to say, everyone knows what the rules are by this point, and the post was pretty self-explanatory. I'll be getting an IC post up tomorrow either way - and I'm about to reply to your PM, Cart
Thanks! It's my birthday tomorrow, and I'm having a bigger celebration with friends at the weekend. Alas, I did not have enough annual leave to take the whole week off of work. You're right about Fairford though, the airshow was fantastic. So much amazing stuff to see there. A friend of mine said she spent the Saturday and Sunday, and still didn't manage to see everything. I'm pleased the weather held out too.
Glad you approved of the post as well. The mood and the pace are really going well at the moment, I hope we can keep it rolling along towards the finale.
Sorry it took so long to get my post up - I had exactly what I wanted to do in mind, it was just a case of sitting down long enough so I could form it all properly and put it up. I hope it's all right though. I wanted Scott to do something compassionate amongst all of the dire events, and also to up the stakes a bit, since it's near the climax of things. Plus I haven't had a chance to use my pistol yet either xD
I was thinking of having him get a wound in the next couple of scenes too, as it seems like a good place for something like that, and to drive the stakes up that bit more too.
