The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Honestly the first thing I thought of were those tamagotchi digital pet things, do you guys remember those, or did I just show how terribly old I am?

I remember when they first came out. And I'm probably older than all of you, at 32. I'll be 33 this year.
The original novel Blade Runner is based on, 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' had robot animals - or 'electric' animals - as one of the featured things, as the Earth in the book was basically dying (since it was written in the 70's-80's, it was due to nuclear war), hence the title.
The mention of robot animals, and the fact that the world is a bit of a mess made the connection in my head :3
John had spent the previous night huddled in the comparative warmth of a guesthouse in Basingstoke under some semi-clean sheets. He'd traded the space in a bed for some food he'd managed to scrounge on the trip up from Portsmouth, and the family that had owned the place were glad of the extra supplies.
Come the morning, he felt rested enough to make his way in the cold to the church that was the rendezvous point.
Hands in gloves and jammed firmly in the pockets of his cold-weather jacket, and boots crunching through the snow, he briefly tugged the scarf around his face up to cover his mouth and nose, and blinked against the cold air as he trudged on.
The streets were mostly bare, with only a few handfuls of sullen people around flaming bonfires, or making their way to and from places to gather whatever breakfast they could, or going to and from whatever work they could find. A few trod the same course as him, evidently heading for the church up ahead.
The building had fared better than many around it. Churches were buildings of thick stone; unlike the glass and metal around them, and especially the fabric-canopied shopping centre, they would last ages.
Removing his hat and pulling the scarf back down, he took a seat on one of the pews near the middle. While he wasn't especially religious, it made it easier to blend in with the crowd. Though, with them all dressed much the same for the weather, and with their own bags of possesions, he didn't look too different.
The space began to warm up with the people seated in it, which was something to be glad for. As the priest began to speak, he tuned out somewhat - religion had never been something for him, and while he respected the rights of others to believe and didn't want to be rude and interrupt, he wasn't interested or attentive enough, and his mind wandered.
The time passed, and soon enough the service was over. Picking his way through the departing congregation, he pretended to be admiring the stained glass as he made his way toward the altar at the front of the church, glancing surreptitously at the other stragglers in an effort to work out which of them may be his new colleagues.
Esailia sent me a message to say that sadly, she's unable to join in right now. So, I'll keep the infantry fireteam as an NPC group right now instead - maybe Irry can lead them when they're needed.

I'll be posting in a few hours, I've just been wrestling with some mental health issues.

No probs, dude. Take your time, I'm looking forward to seeing your post.

Speaking of Ms. Jacquo...

Character Sheet
Character Name: Iriana 'Irry' Jacquo
Age: 29
Species:Red Panda
Appearance:
Irry
Personality:
Confident, with a good-humoured sharp tongue, Irry is irrepressibly smart and quick-witted, as well as tremendously pro-active and practical. This is not to say that she lacks in character or compassion, or that she is unfriendly.
Irry is very eager to speak to others around her, and to make friends, though she worries that her position as XO to the 'boss' puts her at a distance from others.
She is most dedicated to her position and enlistment in the LDF, and takes any combat role she is in seriously.
Personal History:
Irry is the sister of one of Silverwind's former comrades. The two met while he served with Irry's brother Marlen, in the original incarnation of the 101st Roughriders, and made good friends, and when the Roughriders were reformed, Silver requested Irry to serve alongside him due to her exceptional skills and memory, and she accepted due to the opportunity to get to know more about what happened to her brother for some closure, and to push her training and service in a different direction.
Personal Weapons and Equipment:
Standard LDF semi-automatic pistol and MBR (Modular Battle Rifle) Carbine. Utility/Fighting knife.
GEAR harness if piloting GEAR, or Infantry Battle Armour (non-powered armour) and load-bearing harness if in combat.

Irry rarely pilots a GEAR, but is more than capable of doing so. If she is required to go into battle, she pilots a standard current-model H4R-IC "Harlock Improved" with mission appropriate weaponry in standard LDF camouflage.
Not that I'm expecting anyone to get it, buuut...

if they're robo-animals, are any of them electric sheep?
I'll get a post up in a few minutes, since it's Friday and that means no early night because of work, yesh!
I will also make a small edit or two to my back-story on my sheet, as I figured there's one or two things I'd like to mention I hadn't covered. Won't change a great deal though.
Blade was about to answer Kensington when the young woman arrived, all in a fluster. Bemused by her rapid-pace explanation as it tumbled out of her, he held up his left artificial hand to halt the explanation, a slight smile on his muzzle.
"Easy there, slow it down a little. Don't worry about being late; you're here now and that's all that matters. I'll be giving the official welcome once the ship's underway. Kensington here was jus' heading up to the squadron barracks rooms. Follow him, and y'all will be fine. I'll be up in-" he checked the PADD again "-five minutes. I'll wait that long fer anyone else, then we're movin' out."
ARGH YOUR POSTS ARE FINE, STOP WORRYING
It's not problem waiting for things to get going - we all seem eager to start, but since we're all pretty invested in the game, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we're happy to wait for it to be the best it can be, rather than it being rushed.
Whatever happens, it's going to be good fun with the cast we've got assembled so far. I'm eager to see how our group works together against whatever comes up.
"Howdy, Pilot" replied Blade as the younger fox arrived. He looked nervous, but had a smile on his face all the same. Blade couldn't help but smile slightly at that, as it reminded him of himself in younger days.
"Don't fret about it," he replied to Maxwell's explanation. "Things are always like that in the military, especially when you're joinin' a bit of an unorthodox unit like this. Once we're underway, I'm sure things'll get a bit more squared. We're kinda re-writin' the book as we go, here."
He nodded to the kit bag the vulpine was carrying. "Leave yer weps with the quartermaster over by the staircase, he'll sign 'em into the armoury fer you. Then sync yer PADD up to the shipnet, and y'all should be able ta find yer bunk-room... or hang around here fer a few, an' come wi' me."
He glanced at his PADD and tapped a flickering holo-icon, before nodding. "Yer chopper's not aboard yet, it'll catch up with us once we're a coupla hours out, as per the regs. I'll make sure y'all get time to check it over once we're runnin' tho. Welcome aboard, and ta the 101st. I'll give a proper brief later, all right?"
