The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Elaine had followed dutifully in Cecilia's wake with the others as they left the landship behind. The foot-wheels of her FRAME hummed softly as the machine skated over the uneven ground. Time and miles rolled away quickly over the half-hour they spent getting into position. For most of it, she had a good view of the back of one of the others' machines. They spread out as the ambush point came into view. It was classic; a road flanked by gently sloping embankments, wooded with trees and other foliage far enough apart to permit their movement but dense enough to shield them from view.

She took a crouched position, and then shut down her FRAME as commanded. She popped the hatch for ventilation, allowing cooler air to circulate inside the stuffy cockpit; with the power off, the environmentals were shut off too. Sitting in a dark, metal box with no air wasn't exactly great for pre-mission calm.

What seemed like no time at all passed, and the convoy hove into view. The redhead grimaced as she buttoned up the machine once more, switching to minimal backups, enough for visual sensors to be online.
Time to get interesting, she thought wryly as the convoy paused. Like Cecilia, she had a prickle of doubt climb up her throat as the targets paused. A flutter of anxiety spiked in her breast, before dying away as they moved on.
The other machines sprang to life as Cecilia's voice urged them into action.

Edwards' laser designator stabbed out, and ECM kicked off. She did the same adhering to her role and expertise. Moving from cover to cover, she cranked up her own ECM system and designated targets, handing off data to the others as she darted between trees, and advanced down the slope as the others engaged targets. She saw Maia move forward, acting on their orders. Enough cover was coming from the others that the redhead followed suit, backing up her team-mate with swift, short bursts of autocannon fire. The rifle-like weapon was tucked tight against the FRAME's shoulder as she danced the machine between cover, aiming for sensors, joints and weapons on the enemy machines. Like Maia, she had the aim of closing into close range. Her comrades were already providing pinning fire from the higher embankments of the road. It was a good time to start hitting harder.
Skidding down the slope, she darted her FRAME closer, snap-shooting in short, precise bursts at the head-sensors of the nearby Dreq, aiming to destroy and disable its' targeting alongside the blanket of jamming being blasted out by her Frame and Edwards'. As soon as she saw the head turn to a heap of scrap, she shifted her aim to the torso, aiming to cripple balancing systems, power and whatever other vulnerable and essential systems resided in the core of the machine.
I loved reading everyone's posts as they all got moving. Sorry it took so long for me to chime in too!

I mean, I love the concept and all, but I screwed up, 'pparently, and I don't even want to bother with it anymore. Dunno if other people are amused by it and wanna see what stupid things he does next, but I'm feeling fairly crappy about my character now.

What everyone else has said - character interactions aren't personal ones, and it's not an attack against you either. And I'm looking forward to having my character work together with yours, and the pair of them learning from one another and trading off on skills and capabilities to do awesome shit together during the game.
Elaine caught Bernards' look her way as she began to strap in and seal up her FRAME. She flashed a grin to the older man and returned his nod as she closed her own hatches. The glow of displays and readouts embraced her in a comforting haze and the web of straps and belts held her like a familiar lover as the hum of her machines' heart coming to life trembled through her body.
Status lights flicked to green and active as umbilicals disconnected and retracted and the FRAME took its' own weight. Voices burbled through the headset of her helmet as the rest of the unit checked in; she was among the last, calibrations to her FRAME having taken a little bit longer.
"Sorry to keep you all waiting," she added with a tone that held a hint of humor. "This is Morgan reporting. Raven's ready to go too."
Elaine arched an eyebrow at the attempt by one of the newcomers to explain himself in depth, and the subsequent dressing down by Cecilia. His emphasis on battle management and support turned the thought in her that she would likely end up working a lot with the new pilots; her own role of reconnaissance and observation was very much along the same lines. Between them, they'd likely end up providing most of the tactical picture for the rest of the unit while on the field. Hopefully, though, he'd be a bit more assured and competent while they were under the guns of the 'bad guys' out in the real world.

Everyone seemed to be filing out and heading for the FRAME hangar, with little else left to say. Taking it as her cue to do the same, the redheaded pilot followed her comrades down the corridors and passages of the landship to the cathedral-like space that the machines occupied. Everyone set to work adjusting and checking their machines. It was a slight shock as Bernards' FRAME opened up to reveal him looking sleep-dishevelled inside the cockpit and greeting everyone. Elaine simply shook her head and gave a smirk toward the fellow pilot, adding a wave of acknowledgement.
She climbed up into her machine, fondly named 'Raven' and with a stylised image of the bird by the same name on one shoulder. She didn't close the hatch, but instead powered up the onboard computer systems for a self-test, and began to run through checklists, preferences and checks, making sure links were clear and established between her machine and the others, and also back to the ship. Likewise, she ran diagnostics on all onboard systems and weapons; no use being caught short in the field, and even if the techs had checked everything, double-checking was always worthwhile, and she liked having the piece of mind of knowing it was done.
As she worked, she glanced up and looked around at the others; they showed a range of reactions. Some eager to get into the fight, other showing cautious and measured approaches to their preparation. How much of that would show once they were out and into the thick of things? She was curious to see how it would go.
It looks like Benson and Elaine could have a lot of crossover in their roles, and end up working together a lot, since I envisioned her being forward recon, observation and acting as a spotter, and since 'Calling in fire support' was mentioned in his explanation, it seems like there's a lot of overlap there.

My IC is up; it's not very long, but says what it has to. Also, imagine Elaine's accent as Scottish, as that's what I had in mind for her when I created her.
Elaine had settled lightly on one of the chairs in the room at the prompting of the Panthers' CO. She was familiar with Bentz and his aide from previous missions, and so far everything seemed straight-forward. Scuttlebutt had said that a group of new bodies were joining the unit, and she was quietly relieved to see it was true. The Panthers had been under-strength for a while, getting things back into working order would be good for everyone involved.
The orange-haired slip of a woman studied the illuminated map with a practiced eye and absorbed the information, flicking her gaze between various points as Bentz explained the situation to them all. The nuts-and-bolts of the op were, as things went, one of the more straight-forward tasks she'd heard of, and that was something to be glad about. A few more specifics wouldn't hurt though, she reasoned.
One of the new pilots opened up with a question, and she listened for the answer, before speaking up herself.
"Do we have any information on the numbers and strength of the security forces?" she asked, her strong accent distinctive in the quiet of the room, burring on the 'r's' in her sentence and a slight smile of familiarity directed toward Cecilia as she asked. "I'd like to know what we're up against as much as possible before we head in, and I make any adjustments I need".

She looks good! Her funds are off though; we're stating with 600,000c, minus the FRAME and equipment costs. You'd have 88,750 left over.

Haha, maths is a terrible blind-spot of mine. I'll point out now that you and anyone else will probably end up correcting my sums, and that it won't be me trying to game the system or cheat, but instead just my ineptitude at arithmetic. Even with a calculator I still end up making mistakes xD

I'll change it when I copy her over to the characters tab, and then I'll work on getting an IC up too. Glad you like her!

Managed to get my character and their machine earlier up than I expected. Hope they're both okay? I tried to follow everything as much as I could. I hope that her background section doesn't go against anything you had in mind either. I kind of pictured the UKE like the UK and some other European powers from the description, so I went with it.
