The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Hey, cool. I might change my plane, depending on which ones you add xD
I'll look forward to the OOC as well :D I might stay up especially, lol.
I was just thinking of planes of a similar vintage to our starting ones, or others that have made only limited or minimal appearances in the Ace Combat series. In some cases, it's because they're experimental or unproduced prototypes, but I'll put my list below, with links if possible. I'm just making suggestion of course, and mainly putting a 'wish list' of planes that are kind of obscure in media, but still have had a long background history of service. I'm not even recommending they all be flyable either.

In no real order:

A-7 Corsair II (And the proposed modernised Corsair of the late 80's, the YA-7F Strikfighter)
F-8 Crusader (and the Super-Crusader!)
SEPECAT Jaguar
English Electric Lightning II
Alpha Jet
AMX
Buccaneer
MiG-23/27 Flogger
L-39/L-59/L-159 Albatros
AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-Kuo
KAI T-50 Golden Eagle
Saab Viggen
Mirage F1
Super Etendard
F-111 Aardvark
A-5 Vigilante
S-3 Viking
IAI Lavi
BAe Hawk
TSR-2
Avro Arrow

That list got longer than I expected... and I had to take some things off it... >.<;;
Yeah, that would be pretty cool :D
I've got some suggestions for planes I'd like to see as well, ones that haven't appeared in Ace Combat so far!
I was worried that it was because you thought I was going to wreck your game :-/ But thanks for letting me aboard - I'm looking forward to this already.
I already have a character idea and I've started writing a sheet. I'll wait to post it until the OOC goes up, so I can make any necessary amendments depending on what the background is.
Greece are still using theirs, Germany only retired them last year.
Both upgraded their Phantoms extensively, to the point they could use AMRAAMs and most modern ordnance.
They're both good choices. Have you picked a nation yet? That might help you decide. If it's a more Euro-influenced nation, then the Mirage could work better. Also, what background is your character from, that could help too. The Phantom was used as a Navy fighter, whereas the Mirage wasn't. That might help tip the decision? Just trying to offer some helpful ideas :)
As long as you do it quietly :P
I've gone for an F-4 - Good at most roles, easily capable of being upgraded to carry more modern weapons, and can be used both on a carrier and on land. I also picked it because I had the idea of playing a Marine Corps pilot, and it was an aircraft the USMC used, which means it fits in with the idea for the AC setting as well.

I was tempted by the F-5 or the Skyhawk, but I've used those in other RP's, and wanted to get my hands on a 'toom for a while.
That's all assuming Rafale is okay for me to join in the first place though >.<

The Mirage is a good choice either way - it's fast, agile, looks nice and has a good complement of multi-role munitions. And again, if you decide to/get the choice to stick with Mirage variants, there's plenty of other more modern ones to look toward.

EDIT: By the way, your signature is hypnotic, and hilarious xD
Another post up from me addressing everyone. The speech was a bit clunky, but it said everything I wanted it to. Silver is sitting around if you want to talk to him, and Irry will also be in the room too.
Silver stood still a moment, as the group formed themselves into a decent line. Everyone stood at attention well, and he walked down the line, looking at each face as he passed. The group were a very mixed bunch indeed; mostly young, but still varied in age. All manner of species and appearances, both genders well represented.
"At ease," he said after a moment, and waited until they'd relaxed a little before continuing.
"You've all been transferred to this unit; many of you will have no idea why. I'm sure some of you may have been uprooted from somewhere you were comfortable. Others, not so much. I apologize if that's the case; as it's my fault. I was charged with creating a new unit, and I requested some of you after reviewing your files. I won't say which now, as that's not important."
He eyed their faces for reactions as he stopped in front of them, to better address the crowd, and gauge their reactions.
"The LDF has never been an especially conventional force, but there are particular ways it does things. However, our challenge, both as the 101st, and as part of the Parvan's Claw as a wider group, is to construct an 'unconventional warfare' group. We are to explore tactics, ideas and concepts to engage the enemies of Landren, and to support our allies and the Landren people, both in warfare and any other tasks, and also to investigate and act upon any other, hm... 'Unusual Incidents or Information' that may be uncovered during our missions."
He looked over them carefully, his ears flicking back and forth, and head tilted on one side. How would they react to this? He was expecting plenty of questions, and rightly so.
Moving on, he continued speaking - he'd give them as many answers as he could, and then see what their reactions were.
"I've seen all of yer files. I picked some of ya out, others were sent to me. I ain't gonna say which is which - and y'all ain't ever gonna know. It don't matter anyhow. Yer here now. There are people out there who want us to fail, who wanna be justified in thinking this is a stupid idea, and none of y'all will ever amount to anything".
He eyed the faces in the group.
"Y'all might be thinking, ya know better'n me, or better'n that. That you're the shit, y'all are mean mothers?"
A grin crept onto his muzzle. "Damn, show me it's true then. Do what I tell y'all to, and show me that, an' teach those around ya to be just as good, if you're that kick-ass".
His expression became firm again, as he continued. "An' if yer not, if yer a consumate pro, if yer quiet and controlled, an' y'all know yer stuff. Or if yer quiet, and unsure - then that's fine too; all's we got ta work with each other. Y'all got picked up cos ya know how and what yer doing. Because y'all have got something I want in this group. An' that'll make it work in time. It won't be easy, an' it won't take five minutes - but sometime, it'll happen. We ain't all people who're gonna fit together. There's gonna be arguments an' times yer all gonna hate me or each other. But y'all will find out ya can work together, and we're gonna stick a big middle finger up at those people who said we ain't gonna come to anything - or we'll die tryin'."
He nodded and leaned back, folding his arms, tapping one foot.
"Get the rest of yer gear stowed, and familiarise yerselves wi' the common area. All the layout's on yer PADDs, mess hall, facilities and all that crap. Take an hour to look around. I'll be sittin' in the common area fer questions. After that - we start preppin' fer our first exercise. Fall out, 'riders"
