The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

If you wish. Little rule I forgot to mention (will add to rules after I get some sleep); all planes with 20mm cannons get 600 bullets in true Ace Combat spirit, 25mm 500 and 30mm and over get 400-300. And as an intermediate between the crazy amounts of missiles in AC and realistic numbers, you carry 25 normal missiles and four maximum "special weapons". I know it's not very realistic, and it might get on some people's nerves (not targeting anyone by saying this), but this an Ace Combat RP after all.

Might I make a suggestion?

During the Aurelia-Leasath war, many new technologies found their way onto the battlefield. As one of many continuous conflicts across the globe that had seen an increasing focus on airpower during a conflict, and the fielding of increasing numbers of aircraft, along with a rapid rise in advanced electronic and propulsion technologies, the very real need for aircraft to carry an increased amount of firepower was felt.
As a result of this, a crash-program was commenced to develop a new type of missile that would be physically smaller and weigh considerably less, but pack the same - or at least, a comparable - amount of destructive power into a smaller physical shell, and also be capable against both surface and aerial targets.
The program was named akin to the Small Diameter Bomb, and took the name SDM - Small Diameter Missile.
Using components from the Stinger AAM, Javelin ATGM and the Hydra series of rockets kept development costs low, and allowed for rapid mass-production of the technology. The technology was quickly adapted for export, and the self-contained tracking-and-guidance systems meant that the SDM could be integrated readily with a wide variety of aircraft for little cost and time.
Taking over as the primary missile system on most aircraft in a short time, the SDM complements rather than replaces existing systems, relegating 'traditional' missiles to more 'special weapon' roles. Most aircraft can carry up five or more 5-tube 'packs' of SDMs, with some able to carry even more.

Makes it sound a bit more realistic, and grounds it in something. And it doesn't sound out of place with the Ace Combat universe either, if you ground it in several decades of continuous warfare!

My character is inbound shortly :)
Can I just get a confirmation of the year we'll be set in for my character sheet? Helps to work out the date of birth, and the relation to previous events in the canon, and whether my character would've been old enough to take part in them.

Also, I had in mind the idea of playing a Marine Corps pilot, rather than an Air Force one. In a similar way to the US Marines have a fixed-wing aviation element. Would that be okay?
Hey, cool. I might change my plane, depending on which ones you add xD
I'll look forward to the OOC as well :D I might stay up especially, lol.
I was just thinking of planes of a similar vintage to our starting ones, or others that have made only limited or minimal appearances in the Ace Combat series. In some cases, it's because they're experimental or unproduced prototypes, but I'll put my list below, with links if possible. I'm just making suggestion of course, and mainly putting a 'wish list' of planes that are kind of obscure in media, but still have had a long background history of service. I'm not even recommending they all be flyable either.

In no real order:

A-7 Corsair II (And the proposed modernised Corsair of the late 80's, the YA-7F Strikfighter)
F-8 Crusader (and the Super-Crusader!)
SEPECAT Jaguar
English Electric Lightning II
Alpha Jet
AMX
Buccaneer
MiG-23/27 Flogger
L-39/L-59/L-159 Albatros
AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-Kuo
KAI T-50 Golden Eagle
Saab Viggen
Mirage F1
Super Etendard
F-111 Aardvark
A-5 Vigilante
S-3 Viking
IAI Lavi
BAe Hawk
TSR-2
Avro Arrow

That list got longer than I expected... and I had to take some things off it... >.<;;
Yeah, that would be pretty cool :D
I've got some suggestions for planes I'd like to see as well, ones that haven't appeared in Ace Combat so far!
I was worried that it was because you thought I was going to wreck your game :-/ But thanks for letting me aboard - I'm looking forward to this already.
I already have a character idea and I've started writing a sheet. I'll wait to post it until the OOC goes up, so I can make any necessary amendments depending on what the background is.
Greece are still using theirs, Germany only retired them last year.
Both upgraded their Phantoms extensively, to the point they could use AMRAAMs and most modern ordnance.
They're both good choices. Have you picked a nation yet? That might help you decide. If it's a more Euro-influenced nation, then the Mirage could work better. Also, what background is your character from, that could help too. The Phantom was used as a Navy fighter, whereas the Mirage wasn't. That might help tip the decision? Just trying to offer some helpful ideas :)
As long as you do it quietly :P
I've gone for an F-4 - Good at most roles, easily capable of being upgraded to carry more modern weapons, and can be used both on a carrier and on land. I also picked it because I had the idea of playing a Marine Corps pilot, and it was an aircraft the USMC used, which means it fits in with the idea for the AC setting as well.

I was tempted by the F-5 or the Skyhawk, but I've used those in other RP's, and wanted to get my hands on a 'toom for a while.
That's all assuming Rafale is okay for me to join in the first place though >.<

The Mirage is a good choice either way - it's fast, agile, looks nice and has a good complement of multi-role munitions. And again, if you decide to/get the choice to stick with Mirage variants, there's plenty of other more modern ones to look toward.

EDIT: By the way, your signature is hypnotic, and hilarious xD
