The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 44 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Scott grimaced as he heard the order to head for the cloud layer. Currently, he was down low close to the oceans' surface, hoping that the reflections and clutter from the surface would go some way to mask the Corsair against the hostiles. Ramping the Corsair's engine up to higher speed, he pulled the nose skyward. The big intake gulped in air, and the engine strained as much as it could to give the power he wanted. The lack of afterburner was hurting, and the jets' sub-sonic speed was an issue in this particular instance. Instead, he was forced weave and yo-yo as he climbed to avoid a predictable course as he climbed.
Each moment rocketing skyward was a tense one, and Scott felt like targeting sights were drawing circles on the back of his helmet with every minute he corkscrewed skyward into the blanket of water vapour.
Finally, he felt the tension ease to a small degree as the Corsair punched into the wispy veil of vapour. Coming wings-level, he took position of the other aircraft of the unit, and rubbed the back of one glove across his eyes for a moment, before taking a deep breath and scanning the skies, craning against his straps to look over both shoulders.
"At least here we might have some chance at defence," he said quietly over the squadron frequency. "If they have to close in for guns, we can evade better at close range, and their speed doesn't matter as much..."
He tried to sound hopeful and positive, but his tone showed through - their chances weren't great, but at least they had something to claw hope from. He didn't harbour any chances of shooting down the bandits, not at all - just surviving would be fine. And, whatever deity was watching, the rest of them would make it through as well.

It's hard to disregard that.

Didn't want to just leave the post empty. And I dunno, I thought it was funny.
EDIT: Disregard.

Operation Steve Irwin is underway

(Thanks for the name, Sylph!)

I will post on the IC shortly, since I think we've had as many replies as we're going to get at the moment, and I want to press on.
Yeah, I don't really want to play two characters either. If I do go for a two-holer, I'll probably just make my co-pilot/WSO very loosely drafted up and lacking in characterisation deliberately.
GMT. I live in the UK on the South Coast.
Mine's pretty much the same as Sylph - a ground attacker of some kind, probably an A-10, or an A-6 since I'm going Naval. Or something multi-role with a high emphasis toward ground attack, like a Bombcat, or one of the proposed advanced F-14 variants; or maybe something more exotic depending on what happens.
I'll go with that!
F-16's are like Vanilla Ice Cream. You know exactly what you're getting, and hey, it's still Ice Cream, which is always good. But there's so many other flavours to choose from, and most of them are far more interesting. You only ever eat vanilla if there's nothing else, or if it's got something interesting added to it. Which, in the case of the F-16, is the later or alternative variants that have cool things, like the F-16XL, or the Japanese F-2, or the Block 52+ F-16's that have better weapons, avionics, etc.
I haven't commenced operation stick-prod yet, but my strategy is being thoroughly worked out.

Mainly, I'm just going to PM anyone who hasn't posted yet or in the latest round of activity and chivvy them along into doing something. But I'll give them until tomorrow anyway.
