The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly. I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists. I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...
I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.
I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.
I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time. I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.
Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.
Near to Cindy's position, a trucks' engine grumbled along a road, and gears ground as it lurched along a pitted and rutted jungle dirt track. There was a loud BANG followed by clattering of mechanical parts and the engine cutting out - heard too, across to where Kyle had set up his camp - and the vehicle ground to a halt. The tailgate dropped on the cargo vehicle, and the NWA soldiers riding the truck hopped down, while those in the cab did likewise. "What's the delay?" the officer riding up front asked, as one of the soldiers examined the engine. "Why have we stopped now? We need to get the cargo off this island, especially if there's someone running around here and they've captured those code boxes. Black Jewel can't be bought into operation without the cargo." "I know, sir," replied the soldier examining the engine. "This'll take a while to repair - and that's if we've got the parts. I'll get to work-" "Just do it," replied the officer with disgust, before signalling to the others to form a perimeter. A voice from in back of the truck spoke up. "Where are we? Why have we stopped?" "Shut up," replied the officer curtly to the female voice. "Sit still and be quiet Doctor DeWinter. And don't make any trouble". The officer stood in front of the trucks' tailgate, his arms folded, as he spoke into his radio, advising command of his situation. The rest of the patrol began to spread out and cover the truck from all approaches, while the men worked to repair it.
Bryan jumped and stirred. Looking around in a panic for a moment, he slowly adjusted to the situation and saw the drone again, and then the woman a short way behind. Blinking rapidly, his memory came back and he looked down at his arm. "Who are you?" he said after a moment. "Did... you fix my arm? Is this your robot?" He asked, pressing one hand to his forehead and wincing, before looking at Alika again.

Holy crap Blackwolf, you managed to suck your own character's dick and, for dick sucking purposes, change the time to evening/night so he can go all super commando on forgettable NWA soldiers that have the self preservation skills that of stormtroopers! All of this done, of course, with no real plot advancement whatsoever! (I jest I jest).... or not.....Keeping ya guessin ;)
^This.
That was more than a little bit self-indulgent. Okay guys, the rest of us can just set up camp in the forest and live out the rest of the war in peace while Blackwolf kills the NWA and rebuilds civilization. Give us a call when you're done, dude. We'll put the kettle on and have tea and medals ready.

haha most post have been non plot progressing for the most part at this point. Besides just having him treck through the woods for hours on end would be boring XD...so i figured fuck it xD lets get rambo up in this bitch. And he wouldn't reach ya'll until night fall anyways so this is just pretty much what is going on with him as your characters are doing whatever.
Having him have more trouble engaging an entire island full of soldiers would've been more interesting. Or having him actually have some internal monologue about where he's been, what he's done, or some kind of emotion other than 'kill a bunch of guys' would've less boring than 'kill a bunch of guys' though. Also, this island is tiny - take a look at the maps in the OP on this thread. And if our 'characters are doing whatever' (or roleplaying as it's commonly known) surely it's better to have your character bump into them 'doing whatever' than have him murder his way around the jungle on his own?

FYI, I like the setting of GEARS quite a lot and it fulfills my penchant for mecha quite well, so I would be more than slightly disappointed if it died.
It's not going anywhere fast.

Who's Keel? That short for Ramzam's Kelsea?
Yes, probably - I was a little distracted when I was writing, as I kept getting interrupted. Also, I had news about a new job, which I'm starting tomorrow, so that was also distracting. I'll edit it appropriately.
EDIT: No, I won't, as from Ramzam's own IC post:
The systems ran their own checks as Adrian put his glove back on and very briefly tested the GEAR’s motor functions. “Alright,” he mumbled and pulled the cockpit’s restraints into place. “Keel here, in the L-six-eight. I’ve been cleared.”
Right, done a short post getting Bryan introduced to someone else. I'll follow it up with a longer one getting everyone else involved tomorrow, but right now I'm tired and I need to go to sleep, as I have got myself a job that starts tomorrow, woo!
Bryan had changed his course and direction a number of times as he made his way through the jungle. The wound on his arm was beginning to hurt, throbbing and tingling as he went, and the sleeve of the shirt he'd thrown on was stained red around the gunshot wound. Nonetheless, he struggled on, before finally coming across a small clearing with a couple of ramshackle buildings around the outskirts. It looked like a construction site of sorts, abandoned when the war broke out. Making a quick decision, he darted behind a pile of earth bordering a trench dug for foundations. Dumping his heavy bag behind a nearby half-finished wall, he grabbed a spade and the bag with the detonators in, and dug deeper into the bottom of the trench. Digging a deep but fairly even hole, he glanced around and his eyes fell upon a steel toolbox. cramming the detonators in, he placed the box in the hole, and then buried the package, stamping the earth flat evenly along the bottom of the trench, and dumping the excess with the pile of dug-out earth nearby. Task done, he dragged himself into the cover of one of the buildings and changed clothes, putting back on his BDU's and his load-bearing gear. The natives were not friendly, and it was time to defend himself and try to make some impact on the enemy - or find help. He'd heard plenty of shots while running, and there'd been little pursuit. Something had put off the bad guys; maybe he already had help? And there must be some opposition to the NWA in the area. Memorising the location, he took one last look around, and then turned and headed deeper into the jungle, moving quietly and cautiously, MP-5 held loosely in both hands as he moved through the thick tree-trunks and undergrowth. Pausing, he felt his head swim, and his arms droop with the effort of holding the SMG as his arm throbbed. Leaning against a tree for stability, he winced and fought against the sudden weight of his eyelids, before forcing himself to stand up as he heard movement ahead. Ducking into cover, he crouched behind a stand of shrubs. A soft electronic whining sounded, and he craned his neck out slightly, and raised an eyebrow as a small robotic drone entered the clearing. Half-raising his MP-5, he tried to take aim cautiously, but instead his vision wavered again, and the Canadian passed out unconscious.
Silverwind listened to the pilots check in one-by-one, turning the Harlock to watch as their GEARs came to life and moved out of their holding stalls and formed up. Kensington chimed in as well, and he clicked his mike in response. "Okay, team. Good job. Ken, take off and set up a holding pattern while we deploy. Everyone else, here's the skinny - Warlock, take Bell, Stone and Kelsea as your scouting team. Maxwell, position yourself so you're able to relay comms between the recon team and the main unit, as well as providing tactical fire support if necessary, and targeting for Kradis or any of the rest of us for long-range support to cover the recon units' retreat. Everyone who ain't in the recon unit is wi' me. Our job will be to move up behind the recon team and spread out to provide flanking cover at a medium distance, and to secure the rear area of the battlefield, and prevent them from bein' outmanoeuvred. First things first, we gotta move away from the ship. On the double, move out. Positions' updated on yer L/OS HUD" Blade spun on his foot-wheels, and thumped down the ramp at the head of the bay, moving into the outside with a cloud of dust at his heel. The sun was low in the sky as the afternoon slid into evening. The grassy plains and gently rolling terrain was dream-like with its' sea of waving stalks and bushes, broken by strands of spread-out plains trees, and the occasional rocky outcrop. The assembly point for the mission was around twenty miles from the Claw, at the mouth of a valley that began as a shallow, ancient riverbed on the plains, widening out and dropping steeply as it approached the area of rocky bluffs and low hills that the simulated 'base' resided in.
Yeah, I guess that ties in with the need to keep strength up to some degree as well. I'm not sure how regularly pilots use NV equipment, though I suppose it's a lot more frequent nowadays than it used to be, and I'm not sure what kind it is, but I guess it's not going to be much smaller or lighter than any of the stuff used anywhere else.
