The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Just one question before I continue working on the character (I've decided against going with four, it would be a bit too much for this type of game); how long has it been since SDF re-appeared and how long was the journey?

Hyperspace fold travel is apparently instantaneous to the traveller, at least with these drives, so as far as the crew and anyone they're meeting knows, they appeared only a few moments after they left. They've been at Tirol for only a couple of weeks, while things are being straightened out in the wake of the big battle, so long enough for people to have seen and - in some cases - got to know their new alien allies, but not long enough to really mingle with them fully.
Pretty much our first posts IC will be all meeting up before the big good bye, I'm thinking, and we embark off on our crusade.

Also, I'll take a look at the OVA series, thanks for the recommendation!

I hope you enjoy them!

I can understand what you mean about four characters - I'm going to do two, and that already seems like hard work!
(too many episodes to watch, not enough time).

I understand that problem - people keep recommending me things to watch, but there aren't enough hours in the day to catch up, and still do all the stuff I need to do anyway.
If you've got any time to spare watching any of them though - and I know that a 20+ episode TV series is a lot to manage - then I'd recommend Macross Plus. It's a 4-episode OAV series, of 40-minute episodes each, which means you can split them up or marathon them either way.
It was the first anime I ever bought, and still my favourite one. The music, story and characters are all pretty great and pretty well-realized for a 4-episode 'series', and it's quite a rollercoaster combo of action and emotional drama. There's a good combination of quiet dramatic moments of character reflection, that just make the action sequences that much more impressive when they come. The music is also fantastic too - Yoko Kanno FTW - and emphasises everything going on well.
It doesn't have all the background of the universe crammed in, but with what I've given you in the OOC here you won't feel too lost, and it's enjoyable enough anyway. Plus, it'll really show you exactly how the mecha can move and fight in this 'verse too.

And don't worry about rushing the characters or anything - I prefer my RP's to run kind of sedately anyway. I won't be starting until people get their characters up (including me...!) so take your time. Good to hear that you have some ideas though, and I look forward to seeing them. Same for you too, Cart!
Yeah, I figure that they had some kind of militia or civil defence corps arranged
You've got the main jist of it. The Robotech masters were Tirolian, and sort of an arrogant and selfish 'ruling class'. They left with the people they decided they wanted with the - their soldiers and various other people they decided were worthwhile - and abandoned the rest of the population on Tirol as they had no use for them. For whatever reason, they didn't meet their 'standards'.
They're all that's left behind, and as far as the Regent is concerned, they're just as deserving of blame as the Masters.
Most of it posted okay, but you need to check your image links - they're just showing the link text, instead of the image. Never Mind. Also, you might want to add some line-spacing between your titles to allow things to read easier. In terms of the info though, that's all fine and I have no probs accepting him :)
I'll add a list of confirmed characters to the OP this evening. And do my own character(s)!

Also, I should note before I forget: Cross-training will be available later on, so non-human characters may end up piloting human mecha and vice-versa. And you don't always have to stick with the same machine. There may be some missions where you might be assigned a different one for whatever reason, or if yours is damaged or otherwise unavailable.
The Anti-UN/UN Conflict from Macross Zero and the wider Macross Storyline is part of the plot, yes - it occurred around the same time-frame, and was the proving element for the early variable fighter designs, used in secret as the VF-0 and SV-51, alongside robotechnology-enhanced versions of existing fighters.
There would have been some form of similar event to Macross Zero, maybe even with the Bird Human, but I'm not sure how it relates to things yet - but then, maybe even the authorities aren't sure of that yet either?

That was probably the last major conflict between the two powers, as it occurred in 2009, after that things settled down into a relative peace, and the Anti-UN forces disbanded and became part of the UN Forces, which is why you have the mass-production SV-52 alongside the VF-1
Great, I was hoping you would return!

EDIT: I edited my sleep-deprived tags, so that the OOC looks like less of a mess. Hopefully it should now be a bit more readable.
There's still work to be done on some of the links, but the necessary information is still there to allow character creation and posting to begin. Aristo gets the cookie for being the first person to actually post anything!
That's intentional - I am exceedingly familiar with Macross and know the VF-1 back to front. I like the design of the Vf-0 though, so I wanted to use it as one of the main fighters instead of as a prototype. The Sv-51 and the VF-0 would have been visually virtually identical in this setting, but not had the space - related adaptations that full on production variable fighters have.
The OOC is finally up - sorry it took so long, but as you'll see there was a lot I wanted to cover, and it's still not quite finished (I still want a pretty picture for the banner)
There should be enough there for you to create your characters, or at least get reading. I await your questions, complaints and dropping-out messages tomorrow. Now I need to sleep.

This game is loosely based on Robotech and Macross. I have blended together some aspects of both to suit my personal imaginary storyline and continuity. I borrow most heavily from the Robotech Novel series by Jack McKinney, as well as my own personal take on the timeline I have worked on.

There are elements from both continuities blended together to suit my interests, and I have tried to make something imaginative and different here, which I hope people will enjoy. While it does feature anthropomorphic characters, I have tried to make them feel part of the canon and suit the setting, and have tried to make them interesting and varied, as much as the existing races and characters already are.

The game itself will be a blend of drama, action and sci-fi discovery, as well as good plain old fun. After all, that's why we roleplay in the first place.
