The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

I'd say they're just hanging around and doing a kind of checkpoint-type thing, to keep an eye on anyone making it to the 'base' at the farmhouse, which is of course the primary recon objective.

I figure the plan for the unit from here is for Silver's group to eliminate the convoy to cause a ruckus, while the trio at the bridge get wiped by the recon team, and then they advance to the objective, with the assault group sweeping up to cover their fall back to cover after performing the recon.
I'll make a post shortly getting the shooting started, so we can actually get into something a bit more exciting than dithering about and procrastinating.

Winter, feel free to make a sheet and put it 'on hold' if anyone decides to drop out. I'll keep an eye on who's posted or not and let you know as soon as anything develops.
Will do! As you can see, at the moment we're a bit stuffed! I didn't know if you were around or not, or else I would've invited you back at the start >.<

8 kilometers isn't very far away o.o I mean even the world's longest sniper confirmed kill isn't that far away

No, but given we're operating inside a training area, it makes sense that we'd be operating within a confined 'box' of safe terrain, even if we're not live-firing ammunition. So, while the ranges we fight at might be longer if it's real, for a training mission 8km is probably about right.

IIRC, the longest confirmed sniper kill is by a Canadian Sniper in Afghanistan who made a kill shot at slightly over a mile away. It's on the internet in numerous places.
That's exactly right, yeah! good stuff, man :)
Park, it is most definitely not you. You're quite the opposite. I love playing alongside you, both in and out of character. You're great fun to game alongside.

Rafale, sending you a PM momentarily.

Regarding the pace of the game, I'm always eager to post and look forward to it, so I could certainly deal with things picking up in pace a bit.
"Enemy spotted, 3 GEARs, roughly 8 kilometers to the south-west of my position. Shall we engage them?"

Combined with the hostiles that Maxwell had spotted and Nawlin was waiting in position for, this showed that their simulated enemy was waiting. The point of the exercise was to test the groups capabilities and training, and so far - aside from the minor hiccup with Oliver's 'wandering eyes', which wasn't really any worse than some of the other things he'd heard about - they'd done pretty well. No one had given any back-talk or done anything stupid.
"We've got hostiles here, too. Myrina; you're in command of that element, it's your call. Judging by the picture, I'd say you can take 'em if you've got the clear element of surprise. Just make sure they don't get the chance to get the word out. We need to maximise our chances ta survive, here. Even if this is only a training mission". He grinned slightly. "Still, that means we got all th' more chance to show what we can do, an' why a bunch of hillbilly-armoured cans ain't a match fer mil-spec GEARs".

The GEARs and small knot of vehicles under Mike and Ken's surveillance spread out, taking better spacing and distance. Despite being clearly improvised weaponry for the most part - as was appropriate, for representing bandit and pirate GEARs and equipment, the point of the exercise - the unit had some degree of formal training, and knew how to move. The long-range weapons covered the angles, and formed a good box of security around the moving vehicles. The gunners atop the MRAP-style trucks scanned the terrain at regular intervals, checking for potential threats. As the unfenced but paved road turned away toward the horizon, the convoy kept coming straight - leading them almost directly toward the mouth of the canyon, the distance closing down.
Milkman, I somehow completed and utterly missed your post where Oliver spotted the hostiles. I'm not sure if I lost it in the Octopost Of Doom, or whether it just got lost in some other way, but I absolutely wasn't intentionally ignoring it. I'll reply immediately to get you guys involved in the action right away. I'm really sorry I missed that, or else I would've replied to it when I made my post.
So, I'd really like to do a 1x1 RP to keep something moving fast and going on for a while.
Only, I'm looking for an RP with a story, some depth, and some action. Something with a continuing plot and a good world background and story.

I've advertised this in attempts at int-checks, but they all get ignored, in favour of the plethora of 'MxF' or whatever RPs.
My question is thus: Why does it seem like the only kind of 1x1's that are popular are romance-related ones, and everything else is ignored?
There was a big discussion about this on the Facebook page, and a lot of people came forward to say that romance RP's aren't the only 1x1's, and there's a lot of other stuff - but actual evidence says this isn't the case, at least by my experience. Or that no-one is looking for what I'm selling.

What's your take on it, forum-dwellers? I'm not really looking for advice, as such, just opinions. And potentially, y'know. A good RP.
Yeah, thanks. I really feel happy and like I'm enjoying myself.

EDIT: Sorry I'm being so abrupt and moody at the moment. I'm having trouble enjoying a lot of my hobbies at the moment, and this RP is probably the only one I'm really having any fun in right now. I enjoy writing about fighter aircraft a lot, as it's a huge interest of mine, and I like writing things around and involving them. I've also been eager for an RP like this to come along, especially one that lets me use a wide range of aircraft, as this one does.
I also very much like all the people I'm gaming with, although I do feel occasionally like I'm being needled by certain people, and that's frustrating me a little.

I apologize for upsetting anyone or making anyone feel uncomfortable. I'm old enough to know better, honestly, and to have reacted with more maturity, so I apologize for that too. I think at the moment I'm just feeling a little uncomfortable in my hobbies, and it's making me react badly.
