The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio
I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly. I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists. I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...
I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.
I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.
I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time. I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.
Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.
I'd rather have our very first operation of any kind be a success, than a miserable failure, thanks. I'm not trying to run a game cast in glorious depress-o-vision. A little dark from time to time, yeah, but not bleak as hell. I honestly don't really find that something I want to come back to after a day at work. This is escapism and fun for me, where I can be a bad-ass mecha-jock hero, righting wrongs and fighting the good fight. Sorry if that seems a little twee and old-fashioned for anyone, but I quite honestly need something good and positive, rather than bleak and fuck-awful.
That works for me, although obviously you'll both need to be defeated for our mission to progress :P You could turn up at the end of the exercise as 'unexpected reinforcements' to add an air of surprise and to test our ability to adapt on the fly... or something. Or come in earlier, as that would mean you can join right in.
Whichever you choose is fine with me. We can hash it out here, as everyone's input would be good.

I'll get my next post up tomorrow. I finely got my driving license today so I spend most of the day celebrating :D
Congratulations! I hope you enjoy it, and it opens up a lot of opportunities for you. I hope to learn to drive myself in the future.

I'll try to post later today.
No worries - you don't need to recap in detail, as we can all just re-read your earlier post about the defences and assume in character you recapped it (there's not really much point in re-treading old ground), but if you want to make a post, then good. Now we've got everyone back in a group bar Winter and Slypheed, we can make a plan to swoop in on the HQ and have a bit of a battle, before the de-brief and back to the Landcruiser for tea and medals.
Blade lead his section of the unit out across the valley floor, leaving behind the immobilised convoy, the 'dead' soldiers waving or hollering in banter as they left them behind. The recon team had made their way into the hills, and as the heavier-equipped team closed the distance, the muted sound of weapons-fire drifted around the hilltops and low valleys, before they crept up on the friendly signals. "Hold position," remarked Blade as he lead them to a halt just under the crest of a hill flanking their allies position. The bridge the hostiles had been defending was on the opposite side, and then beyond on the other side of the river channel was a gently-rolling scrubby plain that lead out to where the clump of rocks and hillocks nestled the impromptu 'headquarters' of the 'bandits'. Switching feeds to the drone-cam and composite from the various tie-ins the C3I system had around the battlefield, the fox watched as the last hostile was finished off with no great hassle by Adrian. "Blade here," he called to the other team. "We're in close proximity, moving to join up with you now. Maxwell has info on the disposition of forces at the target, regroup and we'll prep for the next evolution. Stand by" Switching frequencies, he contacted the Claw, speaking directly to the captain. Within a few minutes, he'd directed the landships other helicopter, the utility model, to standby to lift the infantry strike team into position once the GEARs and Maxwell had secured the area from threats. "Maxwell, re-play your sensor intel from your flyby - let's get this strike right on the first try".
Oh, I build model aircraft - by which I mean, I buy model aircraft kits and then add scratch-built and chopped-and-changed components from other kits to make them resemble the ones in the novel I'm writing. So, they're fictional variants of real-world aircraft. I'm writing a long-term story around a group of characters and a setting I've had kicking around for years, and it's kind of a work in progress. I chip away at it, but I always find I never have as much time to work on it as I'd like, but it's always there in the back of my mind.
Horse-riding sounds cool. I've never had the opportunity to try it so far, but I'd like to. I like animals, and I like horses as well. My GF used to do a lot of riding, apparently, but she took a bad fall and has never really done as much since, but she's said she'll take me some time. And I sympathise about the weather, too - I was lucky and didn't get hit by the rain when I was out and about on Saturday morning, but it's been pretty miserable since then. I was lucky not to get wet again today.
Even then, it's only pilots who fly at high altitudes and high-G's that have oxygen masks. Helicopter pilots don't generally need them, it's usually fast-jet pilots who have them. Look up some images of attack helicopter pilots, like Apache or Super-cobra pilots.
OK! I'll try and get something up during the early part of the week. I've spent most of this weekend getting in touch with my other hobbies and making the most of having a good amount of time to spend on them. I'll start writing something up though, as I can get onto the site from home and from work.
