Expanding on the original pitch...
Kitashirakawa is just your average Japanese town. It is a somewhat urbanized place that used to be pretty quiet and rather unremarkable until the monsters started appearing. No-one knew exactly why they started appearing, or what they want, but there was no denying it. Right in broad daylight, monsters started appearing every Saturday morning, and disappearing a few hours later. After getting over the initial shock, the townspeople started to treat these monsters like a tourist attraction, as despite their odd appearance they didn't seem to be doing any harm. At least not yet... And so about half a year has passed since the strange creatures started appearing. It is Saturday morning, and this week's monster is scheduled to show up sometime soon... But hey, they're no harm, right? Nothing's really going to happen other than it showing up, right?
Of course, seeing the whole premise of this RP, something will obviously happen. Like, for instance, ACCEPTING THE POWER OF MAGIC AND BECOMING A MAGICAL GIRL! Anyways, just a couple more things to mention for now I guess. First of all is how powers will be assigned. I am still not sure if I want to do it this way or not, and if anyone objects to this idea then I'll scrap it and figure something else out, but the idea was that aside from the basic magical girl powers of enhanced durability, agility and strength, your powerset will be randomly determined. Basically, the idea is that once you make your character I will randomly generate 3 basic powers, and you can choose whichever one you like best as your initial powerset. Again, still not sure about this and if you'd all rather choose your own powers I'll figure out some way to ensure balance to begin with but we'll see how things work out I guess.
Secondly, I guess I'll make a brief mention of the geography of Kitashirakawa. It's a coastal town, and the edges of town that aren't next to the ocean are surrounded by small mountains and forests. As mentioned above, it's somewhat urbanized, although there is still a fair amount of greenery in town, most notably the Kino Forest on the southern outskirts and Amano Park in the center of town. A few minutes walk from the park is Takamachi Academy, the only school in town, which consists of a few buildings each dedicated to the different age groups. As it was rather unremarkable before the monsters started appearing, there aren't really many attractions in town; the only notable ones are the Ichigo Café, a cosplay café popular as a teenage hangout spot, and the Revolution, a nightclub under construction after the monsters started bringing in more tourists that is nearing completion.
Finally, and the thing everyone has no doubt been waiting for... The character sheet!
