Bio

Sharing host/GM duties for "Firefly - Second 'Verse" with Wandering Wolf.

Other than that, kind of a goofball who loves writing stories and playing radio for an audience consisting entirely of my dogs.

To err is Dan.

I hadn't completed proof reading when the text in the doc vanished before my eyes. Feel free to pull down the bothersome section and correct. No red pens, please...

Great post from the Padre!

Sorry, all. My time in the home office has stretched long and late. I've got more midnight oil to burn before I head for the next stop in the morning. Will try to get some writing time in tomorrow.

He might talk Abby into breaking out her Mosin-Nagant for some target practice. She's been savin' up a bag full 'o' Captain Bob's Cola bottles.
Man, I really gotta start adding music to our playlist...

Happy Saturday from the cargo bay!

Right now I'm aware of 2 JP's in progress:

Hook, Cal, and Abby offloading fish and Yuri
Yuri and the doc having a final conversation

If you've got plans for Day 1 evening and need a partner in crime, Abby and/or Cal could be available. (However, if your name is Father Collins, you've got dibs on either one.)

Yuri is going to be unavailable Day 1 and most of Day 2. I imagine he'll show up late afternoon.

Abby is pretty much anybody's fair game while on Greenleaf. She's got a doc appointment Day 2 morning, and after that the usual day watch duty. Let me know if either of my chars can help your scenes while we're on Greenleaf.

Of course, there's a catch. Tomorrow I begin a week's travel for work...actually driving to TX and then stopping for a couple meetings on the way home. Right now I'm fairly sure I can keep up on a daily basis, but a rapid fire JP might not be in the cards until I get home next Friday.

WWIF,

Thanks, Gunther! It was serious fun to write.
No worries. It’s really cool to see so many different approaches out there. Looking forward to Father Collins. Don’t mind the fish smell in the cargo bay…
Sounds like you're having a good time, Aalakrys. Find some snow to play in for a bit!

Here's how it is: FF2V is a collaborative RPG, based upon the 'verse as seen in 14 episodes and 1 feature film. While we're not shy to cherry pick an idea here and there...and we have...this model of the 'verse is ours to play and world build to our hearts' content.

This is Penelope's home. Through her memories and misgivings about this return, we've all been shown a great picture of the place and her prior life. Speaking for both hosts, that imagery has colored our thinking and planning. I believe that all of our writers have envisioned their own adventures on planet through Penelope's lens...and I love that.

We currently like to draw the basics from the Firefly/Serenity database, as the descriptions are brief and allow for a good deal of flexibility. It was fun to read the very detailed views created by another RPG group; they're obviously as motivated to world build as we are, and had the freedom to do so. We want the same freedom for all the members of this group. Your visions of New Melbourne went above and beyond our expectations. We're excited to see how you all view Greenleaf.

Thanks for the link. Honestly, as our member writers have created so much usable canon concerning Greenleaf, I'm not inclined to want to limit them with some of the restrictions and changes to the indigenous populace listed within somebody else's RPG.

Our primary plot (and one or two character subplots) are built around the notion that Greenleaf is the principle pharma producer for the 'verse. There's big pharma, and subsequently, big money situated around one major city.

I don't mind the description of Carter City, as it seems to be the most versatile in offering the environments required by both our primary and character driven plots. Port Market Street makes a good deal of sense, and I'm certain that Hap's La Frontera, a bar that one of our characters is planning to visit, is most likely situated near the seedier end.

We know that Pen is a local, from a band of jungle dwelling folk who call themselves "barefoots." This major city (I was thinking if it needed a name, we'd call it Khao Yai, in honor of some good work done by @Winters and @MK Blitzen in a past life), has all the amenities of the central planets for the pharma millionaire class, filtering down to the meaner accommodations for the working poor. As we've seen by dealing with Hafez, there's a black market and at least one crime syndicate in operation, which is central to our existing plot. The jungles are accessible, though a local guide is recommended (as we've seen from the plans of a current passenger.)

Greenleaf is mostly tropical, with dense jungle that has been cleared in some spaces for local food and pharmaceutical agriculture. The climate is hot and humid, with rainy seasons (of which we're thankfully not encountering on this stop.)

So, to finally answer your question, China Doll is landing at the tradeport docks of Khao Yai, the principle city. I hope that's enough to get you started. We're excited to see Greenleaf through the eyes of Father Collins.

Happy Saturday from the cargo bay!

Feel that warmth? China Doll has landed on Greenleaf!

Not to be a broken record, but here's our planetside schedule:

Day 1: Landing (touch down 3PM local time)
Day 2: Full day
Day 3: Full day
Day 4: Load cargo. 12PM Departure.

As you've read, Pen and the Cap'n have to visit a birthday party to learn about the next job. That's where we'll learn our next destination. Stay tuned!

Here's what I know for post plans:
Unloading fish (Abby Day 1)
Counsel for the Plaintiff (Yuri Day 1-2)
Hook invites crew to party (Hook & crew JP)
Skyes on the job (Skyes JP)
Dealing with Hafez (Cap'n and Pen)
Pulling Stitches (Abby & the doc)
Skyes as tourists (Skyes JP)
Meet the Shepherd (Collins & others TBD)
Jungle Beach Getaway (Alana & Cal)
Job Interview (Yuri & Cal)

I'm sure there'll be scads more, knowing you guys.

Once again, here's some info on Greenleaf:

Also, Pen has done a great deal of world building for her home planet. If you want further ideas, reach out to @Aalakrys.

Dress for high heat and humidity. The doc recommends insect repellent. Welcome to Greenleaf!

Happy Landings

The rush of cold air announced the hatch’s opening. “Kin I come in?”

The voice was unfamiliar. All that Yuri could deduce was its’ owner had to be female, and sounded young. He pulled the sheet up to mid chest before answering. “Yes.”

A girl stepped into the shuttle. The fresh face with a few lingering freckles from childhood offered clues. She was medium height, a bit on the thin side, and her reddish hair told its’ own tale of what she valued. But to Yuri, the real prize was tucked under one of her arms in the form of his boots and neatly folded clothes. “Name’s Abby,” she offered. “Cleaned yer clothes. I also soaked the salt outta them boots and dried ‘em proper. They might be a fair bit stiff fer a few days.”

Yuri sat up to receive his things. “Thank you. I’m Yuri...Yuri Antonov.” He gratefully accepted his things before eyeing a tightly rolled blue tee shirt. “I don’t think that’s mine.”

“Doc didn’t conjure yah gettin’ that arm inta a coverall sleeve,” the girl replied. “Thought I’d give yah that tee shirt tah wear underneath.” She eyed the sling. “Need help gettin’ into it?”

“No, I…” The mechanic looked downward, gauging the actual mechanics of getting into a tee shirt with a broken arm. “Actually...yes,” he grinned sheepishly. “I could use a bit of help.”

“Shiny.” With the girl to stabilize his arm, Yuri removed the sling. She carefully guided the left sleeve up the forearm, and past the elbow until it rested upon the securely bound bicep. After a tilt of his head and the right arm through, he was in. Abby helped him pull the shirt down upon his torso before applying the sling once again. “Fits perfectly,” he smiled his satisfaction. “Jinks Marine Outfitters, Pensacola,” he read the artful design. “I like it.”

“I’s gon’ use it fer sleepin’,” the teenager said, “but yew can have it.” She looked over the remainder of his boots and clothing. “How ‘bout all this? Yah good, or do yah need a hand?”

Honestly, he had no idea, but Yuri wasn’t about to expose his nethers to the girl, no matter how helpful she was. “I think I can manage, but thank you, Abby. You’ve been so kind.”

“T’ain’t nothin’,” she tossed her hair. “We’ll be on tha ground soon. Gotta head fer the engine room.”

“Are you the mechanic?”

“Don’t got one right now,” Abby said. “Hopin’ tah hire on Greenleaf. I’m jest babysittin’.” She pointed toward the shuttle’s seating. “Once yer dressed, kindly strap inta one ‘o’ them chairs? Burn-in’s always a skosh rough, dohn mah?

”Ku.” After a final glance toward the tee shirt, Abby made her exit. Yuri set to work, struggling into the underwear and coveralls, which he could only button to mid chest height. He’d just slipped into his boots and was pondering their lacing as the first buffetting caused the hull to shudder. Yuri strapped himself in, and spent the next minutes listening to China Doll sing her songs of burn in and the rough caress of the winds over Greenleaf.

He closed his eyes, focusing upon every subtle shift and nuance of the boat’s changing attitude. This pilot’s got a great hand, the mechanic observed as the landing...acid test for flying prowess...was performed with the fluid grace of a dancer on pointed toe.

They were down. People would be coming for him. He could only hope that Niska was good as his word.
