"Ah, good, you're both here," came a voice as the two recruits broke apart from the last of multiple exchanges. Brigadier General Remington strolled into the room, a pair of folders tucked under her arm. "Quite the sharp back and forth, by the by. If you both have taken a liking to it, I advise you treasure a consistent sparring partner."

"Ah, but where are my manners? Brigadier General Amelia Remington, at your service. One of your Commanding Officers in AMSIF," she continued as she snapped quickly to a salute with enough practice behind it to be impeccable. "It's a pleasure to meet you both directly, and a greater joy still to present you both with your inaugural case. You'll be working together on it, and while it's nothing particularly glamorous or high profile it still needs to be taken care of. Here you are."

After returning to a resting stance, Amelia pulled the two folders out from under her arm and handed one each to Amelie and Olivia. "I've been asked to monitor the progress, as well as intervene if necessary. Not that we expect anything life threatening or over your head to occur, but purely as a precaution. Do note that I will be doing so from afar; I won't be assisting unless I absolutely have to."

The case in question was of a series of gold forgeries in the capitol over the past half month, created via alchemy and starting to spread throughout the city. The file featured a dizzying amount of data, most of which was extraneous- doubtlessly a byproduct of the Department of the Treasury's investigation prior to learning of alchemy's involvement and subsequently handing it over to AMSIF. Three key points managed to stand out, however.

1- Of the businesses the fraudulent gold had been traced to, none of the owners or employees were capable of alchemy.

2- Three businesses in particular saw the majority of the fraudulent gold; a clothing boutique that had surged in popularity and traffic, a high-class jewelry Store that saw few customers, and a butcher's shop that had a moderate consumer base.

3- The fraudulent gold was a relatively small amount, only enough to purchase everyday essentials and a few luxurious expenditures for the time frame, but little more.

Your first case is at hand! Someone is alchemizing gold, and that's a big no-no. Your job is to figure out who it is, find them, and apprehend them. Work with what you have, pick a course of action either together or as a team, carry it out and we'll go from there. Skipping to the location you'd like to investigate during your post is both acceptable and encouraged.

For the sake of simplicity, the assumption is that while it is uncommon and a little unusual, gold is accepted and legal tender in Amestris.

It was disheartening, to an extent; here he'd finally found some semblance of home, and it wasn't to last. Granted, it had been a slim hope, but he'd harbored it anyway "Any particular reason why not?"

"Xander it's not a big deal..." Wash said.

I had an idea of a card-based Alchemist. A bit like Gambit from X-Men using a mixture of alchemy and alkahestry, drawing circles onto a special deck of cards and using the alkahestry technique to transmute from a distance. Would that be okay?

Name: Sophie Castellia

Power/ Talent: Surge- Sophie's power is very unique in that it relates to other psychic abilities. Specifically, she has the ability to increase the power of nearby psychics by several magnitudes. How great the boost is depends on Sophie's interaction with the intended recipient(s); she subconsciously buffs all abilities in the area around her by a small amount, but if she focuses she can increase the degree on specific allies. Conversely, if her emotions run high and she loses herself, the effects increase and decrease completely at random until she calms down. But the most powerful form of her ability comes from touch; if Sophie physically touches another psychic and applies herself, their abilities increase in power and flexibility by an absurd amount while the contact is maintained.

Biography: Six years ago, Sophie Castellia was just a normal teenage girl living a normal teenage life. She went to school, she did her homework, and she daydreamed. But, where most girls her age daydreamed about boys (and some of them about other girls) or their ideal, fulfilling careers, Sophie daydreamed about something more abstract; she dreamed of doing some good in the world, helping to better the planet she called home in some meaningful way. And she held that idea into High School, where she signed up for the ROTC program. Her intention was to use that to go into a career in the Armed Forces, but it was cut short when her physical capacities were found wanting. The program told her "Sorry, no thank you" and left it at that. At first, she thought, it was no matter; surely there were other avenues, other paths by which she could help others. And so she soldiered on.

Something changed, however, when her unique ability woke up. She'd known about the generic psychic abilities, although hers were weak enough that she could hide them, the same as everyone else. But it wasn't until just after her High School graduation that she discovered Surge. It’s discovery is not an event she goes into details on if she can ever avoid it; it was an accident, a major accident that resulted in most of her friends dying and one of them, her best friend Moriah, left in a coma. Because of it, Sophie had gone into self-inflicted isolation; she didn't associate with anybody, psychic or not, and she worked the graveyard shift because she couldn’t sleep at night. One day, a pair of the Sector’s cohorts came to visit, promising her help and an opportunity to do some good in the world again...

Hobbies: Reading, drawing, and gardening (it helps keep her calm).

Personality: Sophie is, or rather was, an idealist. She was quick with a kind word, or a hug for those okay with that, and always had something positive or optimistic to say, sometimes almost to the line of naivety. Theoretically, she still is of that quality- but it's all been buried under a mask of stone that refuses to connect with anyone.

Additional Info: Sophie's basic abilities (telekinesis and telepathy) are comparatively weak... unless she Surges herself, that is.

Parental involvement: Just about none. Never really wanted him, often pretended he wasn’t there.

Appearance: Above average height, fairly skinny, light skin. His hair hangs about ear length and is dirty blonde except for one swath in the front that grows in a blue color.

Item: A dark blue colored feather that he keeps on a necklace. On Earth, it does nothing except look pretty. On Sylvent, it was the basis for the connection between rider and stormwing, and bestowed a variety of effects necessary for high-speed flight.

Short history/personality:
Alexander didn’t really have much of a childhood. His parents birthed him, raised him to the point he could manage himself physically, then basically ignored him. He went through life not really knowing parental affection… until, at age 11, he found himself in the world of Sylvent. A world high above the clouds, where people lived on floating shards of earth and travelled the winds by way of large airships and airbourne fauna. Most important of these were the stormwings, great birds that boasted mastery of the skies. Each denizen of Sylvent bonded with a stormwing for life, relying on them for many things. And, surprisingly, Alexander found himself bonded to one as well despite being a traveler- specifically a blue stormwing, the sight of which had never been seen in living memory. He soon discovered that she flew faster, turned sharper, and landed more smoothly than almost any other, and he set himself to learning how to work with her and soar through the air.

Eventually he found himself in the company of Captain Halden, leader of a band of sky pirates. Halden took a shine to Alexander, and soon the boy found himself falling in with the crew. Halden in particular soon became something of a father figure to Alexander, and he was relieved as he grew older to discover that while they called themselves pirates, they actually worked for the good of the people and mainly took on tasks toward their betterment.

Years quite literally flew by, until one day Alexander found himself in a terrible scenario; to either watch as his stormwing was killed in front of him, or to throw himself to the clouds below. And he chose to take his chances on the desolate land beneath the sky. What he did not expect, however, was to arrive back on earth. Changed and aged, but now robbed of what had become his home. As he came to realize that his parents hadn’t even bothered to search for him, he tried to make things work for the best… until he learned of a peculiar school, one that served as a haven for those who’d found other worlds to call home and longed to return. He departed for it as fast as he could without actually flying- a fact he could hardly stand.

Petyr stands at 5'10", a little taller than his sister, but roughly average height for his age. He has dark brown hair that curls naturally around his head when it's long enough, and try as he might he can never seem to keep it in any kind of styling for long. He shaves regularly, but likes to keep a light amount of facial hair. In addition, he's a complete beanpole; very skinny, but not unhealthily so. He typically wears dark colors, lots of blacks, and enjoys wearing a button-up shirt over a plain t-shirt with cargo pants.

The best way to describe Petyr is to compare him to the snowy days he enjoys so much. On the surface, he usually seems very peaceful and collected, but that is because he's very good at hiding his internal struggles under a blanket of serenity. The actuality of it is that Petyr is a bit of an anxious mess, always worrying that he might not measure up in whatever way. When he puts his mind to it though, he does everything he can to pull through for the people he cares about.

|History|

It all happened so fast. One minute, Maria Jelen was on the delivery table having her baby boy coaxed out of her and into the world. Seven minutes after that, his sister followed. And then the problems happened. The monitors went crazy as the newly made mother began to struggle. The doctors cleared the babies and her husband to try and save her, but they would ultimately fail. Such was the first of many rough times that would eventually come upon the Jelen family.

Petyr and Nina's father was forced to take more hours at work to support his family as a single dad, leaving the twins very much in charge of themselves. They came to lean on one another, even more so than most siblings, as they grew up. Nina would let Petyr take the lead most of the time, and he would happily take it in his youth, but as he grew older her deference to and reliance on him would make him come to grips with the idea that he was the acting man of the house while their father was away. From there, the worrying started. What if he messed up? What if Nina or dad needed him to come through, and he couldn't? It was maddening, and it probably would have driven him into depression if he hadn't found a love for music.

Ever since he was 10, Petyr had loved the sound of rock and roll. Particularly the drums, how they resounded throughout an entire song. When he was 13, he decided he wanted his own kit. Knowing that his father couldn't afford it, Petyr took to taking small chores around town for small change; mow a lawn for $5, paint a wall for $7, but he really hit in the winter months when he would shovel snowy driveways for $10 each. Slowly but surely, he saved every penny he could make until he could afford a secondhand kit in decent condition. And then he practiced, at least as much as he could between school and the noise curfew. He would have joined a band at school, but there was no way to do that and hold his part-time job at the coffee shop, so he settled for continuing to practice at home. He isn't sure what he wants to do with his life, but he's fairly certain sticking with Nina will be part of whatever it ends up being.

Silvester Jelen, Father. Age 47. Silvester raised his son and daughter the best he could on his own, however his world schedule was rather demanding and left the twins alone quite often. Petyr is closer to him than Nina is, but not by much.

Nina Jelen, sister. Age 17. Petyr’s best friend, and constant companion. They were born only seven minutes apart, but have not really separated from one another for very long. They always have each other’s backs, even if there are secrets they keep from each other (Petyr mainly keeps his deeper insecurities from her).

Ice Petyr creates will melt at normal speed unless he constantly supplies it with cold, and warmer areas will require more energy to use his ability. Prolonged use can result in a sharp drop in his body temperature, and if invoked too much will result in hypothermia.
