@Lmpkio Recruit who? o;
@Lmpkio@Eviledd1984 Well aren't we in for a massive clash.

Will they mindlessly attack too?

Apocalypse's abilities were clear now, he had adaptive evolution powers. It would also be confirmed by his big mouth, which relieved the Ethereal in a sense. It meant he wouldn't be impossible to control unlike other overwhelmingly powerful entities they were forced to confront in the past. For now it has to stop Apocalypse in his tracks before he'd cause anymore chaos. Luckily the Mindfray had its effects, and though it diminished over time, it was admitted that he handled the whole ordeal in about a second, as such the Mindfray will still be warm in his mind. Especially when considering the Ethereal's Psionic capabilities.

As such when he'd peer over at the practically invisible Ethereal to his eyes, he would barely notice the dissolved shade of purple that would be shot at him at a speed that surpasses the weapons he had previously seen. Like Mindfray, it didn't do anything at first, but it was indeed Psi-Panic that was applied to it. Although it didn't cause any form of panic attacks on the victim, it did make them severely hallucinate for an extended period of time, making it a whole lot worse with the symptoms of Mindfray added to it. The notion of distance and size would be strongly distorted in the mind of the monster, to the point where the blurred silhouette of the Ethereal would be so enlarged he'd have a portion of the robe it was wearing covering his entire field of views.

Added to that would be his sense of orientation tampered. With the visions the corresponding sounds came to be. Minuscule peeps would be loud as ever while large explosions would be as shaking as a drop of water. He was slowed down, he was forcibly disoriented, and the little he could see was clouded. A small flash of light would glimmer at the corner of his eye as his body still regenerated. A Psi-lance was released from the tip of the Ethereal's finger as it pointed right at the monster. The instant that flash occurred, at a speed comparable to that of the mind attacks it had used, the lance was launched to pierce Apocalypse's chest. Needless to say that a lance with the power to mortally wound warriors wearing armor crafted from the Ethereal's very own alloy destined to craft its robust hips, it would easily cut in half the menace before it.

"Many anomalies of evolution have stepped in these desolate lands. None have proven worthy to dominate the many worlds, let alone The Envisioning One."

The alien overlord never budged from its position, standing at a stagnant 30 meters from the enemy. It didn't have anything to fear as the beast's performances were hindered enough for the Ethereal to easily land a terminating Psi-Lance with excellent accuracy.

"But The Envisioning One may satiate your tormenting thirst, Bestial One."

The monster had finally talked, something that was to be expected from a 'Level 5'. Taking down everything that challenged him seemed to be his goal, a foolish endeavor considering the intertwining worlds. Apocalypse would then proceed to teleport-killing the Mutons lowered to the level of fodder. Most couldn't really follow the movements which led to a frenzy to plasma shots being released at every direction. The only ones capable of reacting decently were those under the influence of Mind Merge. The über Ethereal itself didn't have any issue following the monster's movements.

Eventually, by evaluating the creature's style of killing and movements, the Ethereal could start to predict directions he'd be going in after finishing off a Muton. It'd be after six or seven annihilated soldiers that he'd not only charge toward a merged Muton but also have the Ethereal anticipate with ease where he'd head next. With an simple telepathic command, the Ethereal forced the Muton to simply rotate sideways in that split moment. It couldn't do much but it had the reflex to perform it on time. The area Apocalypse would hit the Muton would be the where the Plasma grenades would be strapped. When the monster would proceed to annihilate the Muton, he would also activate the grenade as if it were a trip mine.

The Ethereal didn't expect anything of consequence from this, but it would put to the test his healing factor even more and possibly stop him for a small period of time. By the time the Mindfray had its effect and would make prediction even easier, especially if he relied on brute force and healing most of the time.

"You appear misguided. You are lost in a world you do not comprehend and yet still rabidly assault anything you see. Your existence will meet its end quickly without the guidance of The Envisioning One."

At this point the Mindfray would make the Ethereal appear as a red blur among the many flames caused by the previous impact and the mist of blood spreading. It could easily take advantage of his lack of precision to simply deliver strike after strike, but it wasn't one to assault mindlessly like the creature, despite clear evidence of sentience.

The rushing monster had managed to avoid the worst by beating the reflexes of the enhanced Muton Elite's first volley. It essentially didn't have the time to aim its gun and have a precise enough shot with the speed Apocalypse was going. Though the failure of the Muton's actions wouldn't be of relevance to the Ethereal's reaction by consequence. After all, it simply stood and witnessed the monster attack it while simply merging its 'mind' with the others. The lack of results was apparent and the Ethereal would simply lift one of its arms out of its ritualistic cloak. The Psi-Lance would form instantly on its hand would would collide with the beast's punch. There was no reason for the Ethereal to be unable to react so simply to a very direct attack when itself had an overwhelmingly powerful motor power and intelligence.

But that wouldn't mean it'd stop the attack. The Ethereal, though it had Psi-Kinesis to greatly enhance its strength when applied on its members, wouldn't come close to the power of Apocalypse. The result would be simple, the Psi-power keeping it alive to this day would have sponged what couldn't be controlled by the lance and the strength it conferred itself, but both left arms and the lance would be of course vaporized, leaving only a large but evidently insignificant cut/burn on Apocalypse's fist. The Alien was now about thirty meters away from it as the impact still had its effect.

"Your potential has indeed been confirmed, O' Bestial One."

It appeared as if nothing had happened. The cloak was unscratched but that was typical of the Ethereal attire, the cloak would never vanish or even be stained until it'd die. There'd however be yellow and red ooze leaking from under it as it had indeed lost its members. But about a second following that, they would entirely regrow. In sync to this phenomenon, a nearby Muton Elite would fall on its knees and crumble to dust leaving only its weapons and armor. Psi-Drain sucked its entire life force out to heal the Ethereal. Whether it was his anywhere else in the body had little relevance as they barely depended on a functioning body at this point, only the brain had relevance. As Psionic powers kept it alive, they were only present because of its brain. Of course too much damage would kill it anyway.

Now forming two new lances on opposing upper arms, it seemed more prepared to battle, but it remained in the same position it did beforehand. Completely straight and passive. It had proven that it could easily keep up with such speeds in a pinch whilst getting a dosage insanely high strength and surviving.

"Will you pursue this fight or perhaps you would be curious as to why you are sought for in such a apoplectic world."

At this point it seemed clear that if the monster would attack, there'd be no reason to hold back given it had survived such a fall but could also generate such power without even damaging itself. The Mindfray had been applied no matter the alternative as previously displayed, leading to rather interesting results if he were to attack again. Apocalypse would have blurry vision, but most of all, his body would feel heavier and his movements slower.
@thewizardguyCrit chance. I believe some have it higher in that weapon tier? Or was it laser tier. I ca't navigate too much right now because of broadband so feel free to correct me on that.

It's plasma. So I suppose it'll fry mostly anything and rather quickly too. Corpses of civilians hit by those were entirely burned. So I'm going to say severe burns unless one has a really strong defense against that type of damage. I'm not very savvy on this btw.

They could technically use covering fire to shoot down someone who'd be about to shoot an ally before the target could actually shoot. But I know that the lore dictates that they have upgrades and are specifically made of combat environment. I'd assume they'd have adequate reflexes. That and I've actually made Mind Merge a reflex upper in my CS.

@thewizardguy You're right on it not upping aim. I must have gotten confused with all the various weapons gained in the Long war. Though the point still stands it has the same base aim with higher precision than basic weapons which are supposedly faster a harder to avoid.

I simply consider them as fast as modern rifle speeds. So a few times higher than the speed of sound, but I did mention they would be relatively easy to dodge given the general power tier.

If thinking in-game, which we've agreed isn't super reliable, they seem pretty well versed in countering people as they're attacking. But sure, if it doesn't hit that isn't an issue. No need to actually edit.

I'll be posting soon, going to eat dinner first! Also no no I didn't mean you were arguing I just have a poor choice of words.

Edit: To me the length of time a millisecond is a bit null. We're in a world where Naruto people are common and dodging bullets is common practice to these people.
@thewizardguy I'm sorry but since when were animations in Xcom actually relevant? Normal bullets from the standard weapons weren't displayed nearly as fast as they normally would. And this is coming from a game where you freeze time to make the best approach. I don't think movement and speed are the forte of the series.

Plus plasma weapons are not only more accurate but have higher precision too. Now I do agree that many plasma weapons in the game are slow enough to even be dodged by normal people, but that's just game animation. It's from the same game where people with basic armor withstand multiple plasma shots in the body.

Finally, this is 'mysterious, super advances alien technology'. With open ended descriptions like that I don't think it's an issue to give super reflexes and normal Muzzle velocity to MASSIVELY superior weaponry.

Now if you want to argue that they didn't have time to react to it despite the speed of sound being pretty typical as Dreaming said, I can work with that. I don't mind.
@thewizardguy Just an FYI, the speed of sound is about 340 m/s, modern artillery has projectiles going at least double that speed.

This is super advanced plasma weapons so they probably go the same speed with a lot more destructive force.

Average fighters in fighting series seem to keep up pretty easily with bullets and such.

The abomination spoke no words despite the alien's invitation, instead it grinned like any other confident human being it had met in the past. That simple fact disgusted the Ethereal to an extent but didn't disturb it whatsoever in its main objective, it had to bring that beast back for further analysis and eventual usage in the field. The Ethereal didn't say a thing either as it waited for the apparently sentient creature to respond in its own way, with or without hostility.

Hostility it was. In an instant, the monster broke the sound barrier and attempted to take down the thin alien in one strike. Luckily the Uber Ethereal wasn't of low caliber, and could handle the situation itself. However, the prideful species would not sacrifice the luxury of having others do the bidding for them. Having mind merged the four closest Muton Elites, they were all enhanced with superior reflexes and accuracy added to their already genetically modified capabilities as a 'created' creature by the Ethereals. Because of this, they could follow the movements of Apocalypse just as the Ethereal could, although with less efficiency, they could still get the job done. As the monster swing its fist, it would be greeted with one of the Muton's gatling plasma cannons. The wave of green energy would aim to fry and melt the arm as it had contact, because it was plasma after all.

"Speed comparable to Basterbine's Hirenkyaku. A potential of strength beyond the standards of our creations. Show us more, Bestial One."

As it spoke, it didn't lose track of the action. The monster's arm was snipped and the Mutons were all ready to fire if he were to try something else. That didn't mean he could just kill them all, especially since they were mostly long range aliens. But that would be admitting he could escape the Uber Ethereal from this distance. With the arm shot, the thin alien had already shot a mindfray with its mind alone and went to simply touch Apocalypse's body. It wasn't something that could be blocked, and the overwhelming speed and point blank range of the attack made it even more difficult to handle.

In any case, a manifestation of Psi-energy was getting visible from under the Ethereal's robe. Apocalypse wouldn't know, but it had its Psi-lance ready to chop down the monster if it would want to brawl from close range. Its goal wasn't to kill the abomination, but to either stall it out until it could have an incapacitating shot or wait until it would stop on its own for any reason.

"Show The Envisioning One your wrath."

The destruction of the mock fleet stationed above the planet had no relevance to it. As long as the concealed observation ship was secure, everything was interchangeable. Its only goal was to retrieve this creature unless the previous menace presented itself as an obstacle. But fate would be on the alien's side, there wouldn't actually be any intervention from the threat. As such it would only focus on the monster before it.
