Sakamoto Isami

Location: Uragiri Clan Compound [Koi Breeding Pond] | Time: 9AM [9:12]
Interaction: Team 7 Uragiri Sakana -- @Odin Kajiya Tatsuya -- @RaijinSlayer, Shinjo Tsubasa -- @McHaggis,

“Before you go…”

Suisen’s voice had reached for him, across the bleak and dreary of the dim hall, as it often did. Only today an anxiety tinted the feverish boredom, the drifting melancholy. For a brief moment, it made Isami forget to wonder, made him forget to think to himself: when is he going to stop? Will he ever stop? When those thoughts did indeed surface, Isami fought to suppress them, admonishing whatever part of him was brash enough, irresponsible enough to muster up such insolence.

He turned, ever the dutiful son, to face his father. The backdrop of the archaic hall, the black folds of Suisen’s haori blurred as Isami’s eyes honed in on his outstretched hand. It was quaking.

“The Chukabocho…” Father was pointing, Isami knew, pointing at the scrolls upon his person, one of which held the second of the family’s ancestral weapons. He was pointing, and yet each of his fingers remained outstretched, refusing to give way, to fold, to obey. “The grip is…”

Suisen laughed, tone like bitter-melon, at the juxtaposition of it. ‘The grip’, his own trembling hand. His was the blackest humor, Isami knew, and it helped him be reminded of his plight everywhere he looked. Isami interrupted, unwilling to bear the self-imposed cruelty of his jibes.

The grip’s tricky, I know. The trick is to loosen the wrists. To give.

His new teammate’s beckoning, taking Isami away from his father, had been a prayer and a blessing in one, sent down from the rains. Tsubasa’s mere being too, had been a welcome distraction for his troubled mind. Isami had become accustomed to looking down when speaking to others his age, and the change was… interesting, perhaps even welcome. More notably: had she always been a girl?

How had he not known this? Had he been so absorbed in his own affairs?

Those were the disquieting thoughts that carried Isami on the path towards the Kajiya forge. The stifling heat of the forge entrance, and the thought of melting within the forge proper, were thoughts that congealed with the rest. The Kajiya were swordsmiths and sealing specialists in antiquity, Isami recalled, which meant that the two sons had a strange amount in common. It was unlikely, he concluded, that such details failed to inform their arrangement.

Yeah, I just might,” Isami found himself compelled, by the satisfying crack of the blacksmith’s neck, to stretch the length of his back, “Elderly folk know everything; let’s ask around.

He could already feel the vivid, pounding headache resounding between his temples, just remembering the Sakamoto elders drilling stories of legacy along the walls of his skull.

Isami had found their initial task liberating, acknowledging its almost childlike novelty; a scavenger hunt, flanked by new ‘friends’. The pessimist in him expected to be given recompense for the relative ease of the task, paid back with trials and tribulations, each one vastly more horrific than the last. As if accepting the expectation as reality, he steeled himself, expression as rigid as Tsubasa’s own.

He allowed himself to soften upon seeing her smile of vague reassurance, meeting their new sensei with an awkward gait, as if desperately attempting to keep his spine perfectly upright.

Vague recognition dotted Isami’s mind as he glimpsed upon their sensei’s eyes, linking them to the stories of the ‘Uragiri’ they had learned bits and pieces of during their hunt. He was young, too, to what must have been the point of unfathomably so, considering his rank. A prodigy perhaps, who did as strange prodigious folk did; played with fish and asked strange questions.

Isami bristled at Sakana’s wording - you swing around weapons - and questioned why the phrasing caused him such distress. His family would doubtlessly retort in the most excruciating of ways, delving ad nauseam into their artform, their craft, honed by time. He shared no such sensibilities yet…

He composed himself, and offered his own answer, intoned in the most lifeless, sterile of ways, “To bring honor and glory to one’s village and clan, to take on their burden and provide for their legacy.” Even he had to give pause, wondering if their eccentric sensei would accept the platitudes, “... and, and provide victory, of course.

Already, he could feel doubt and shame, and braced himself for mockery and admonishment.

What instead followed was the doubtlessly-soon-to-be-fabled debacle regarding Tatsuya and the Slippery Scroll. Somehow, it made Isami like the boy better, as if thankful for the reprieve from his own feelings. He knew better than to offer the situation a word, but if he could, it would have been: thank you.

The thought of the transpirings warmed him, and he barely even registered the matter of the Grass.

To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

Name:
Andrade, Raul

Age:
35.

Sex:
Male.

Biography:
Born amid the wealth and riches of Minas Gerais, Brazil, Raul Andrade was a close, if measured, acquaintance of privilege. The latest son of a line of government officials and media personalities alike, his father was a Coronel of the state police, a position he gained entirely through nepotism, like his own father before him. The boons of name and blood had dulled his father’s pride, and ensured that he knew the idea of ‘merit’ only as a fleeting shadow. Raul Andrade would come to know the influence of nepotism differently, only in the sense that it made him an outsider, an observer.

And as an observer, Raul was endlessly studious, and even prodigious. Inserted into the state military police, he demonstrated an aptitude for civil service and enforcement alike. He became a vaunted member of the BOPE, a world-class exponent of urban warfare.

Born PK-capable, yet never formally initiated into the world of constants and variables, Raul was nonetheless approached for his talent as an operative.

Personality:
Raul is deliberation incarnate. Every thought carefully weighted, and every word measured, delivered at half-speed with perfect enunciation. He operates within his own pace, thorough and cunning in equal measure, preferring deft solutions over explosive measures. His choice of tempo lends itself towards what appears to be a general dispassion and disconnect, although Raul is, more accurately, simply adept at framing the darkest happenings in pragmatic contexts, accepting that matters of the near past are significant only as frameworks for what comes next.

Endlessly courteous, Raul is cordial if not particularly emotive, and rather forgiving in his interactions with colleagues and comrades.

Variable Efficiency and Control Test (VECT) Results:
Short-Range, Physical. Long-Range, Physical.

Relationships:
-to be determined-.

So many Iwaku faces, haha. Well, so long as @Shizuochan is still onboard, we should be good once we get one or two more people!

I is, indeed

There's my submission! Enjoy (hopefully)! Off the top of my head, I'm not like... super stoked about how the name sounds, particularly the surname, so my kingdom to anyone who can pitch me a better one. Also, wasn't sure how to handle the second and third affinities, so just followed suit with Terminal's.

Biography

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

History:
Nori was born the eldest son of Tsubaki and Suisen, the matriarch and patriarch of the Kyoku Clan, and that, he found himself being told ad nauseam, meant that honor was a birthright of his. The Kyoku clan’s numbers had always been small, and their reputation lay in their stolid competence, as opposed to any sort of prodigious talent. They had never been known to flourish, and in a way, this was what perhaps bound the clan so strongly to Amegakure and all its turbulent history. Even at Amegakure’s lowest, clan Kyoku kept faith with both the village and the profession of shinobi, staking their pride and honor through 18 Ancestral Weapons passed down the generations.

They had always spoken of their history with a boisterous pride that was perhaps incongruent with their status, but as a child Nori found the disparity inspirational, and their tradition of service an aspiration. Nori was molded early on to be Kyoku’s next offering to Amegakure’s crop of upcoming shinobi, and the child resolved himself to the responsibility quite happily. He attended the Genin academy, and found the experience joyous despite his middling aptitude; the Kyoku accepted his just-adequate performance, as their history had always cited hard work as a treasured fortune in and of itself, even bereft of astonishing accomplishment. Besides, his father Suisen had been the rare ‘genius’ of the Kyoku, and Nori could find contentment living beneath his shadow.

His fortunes and happiness changed, however, when Suisen found that his hands no longer responded to his wills as they once did. In the short span of a month, Suisen - he who had mastered the 18 Arms of the Kyoku Clan - was no longer fit to master his own dining fork, let alone his clan’s heirlooms. Despite the tragedy, Nori accepted that he would just have to continue his hard work, and make his clan’s offering to Amegakure in that way.

The family, however, could no longer abide Nori’s labored mediocrity. Perhaps it was the clan’s insecurities, that they would no longer have a full-fledged jonin to offer their beloved village, or perhaps it was Suisen, who desired to live vicariously through a shinobi that displayed not half of his own talent. In either case, Nori quickly found that living according to tradition, and beneath Suisen’s shadow, had become strangling endeavors.

Personality:
Diligent.
While perhaps currently disillusioned with his life as a shinobi, Nori has grown up with the mantras of hard work instilled into him; he is tenacious and unyielding, if only by force of habit.
Anxious.
The added pressure the Kyoku have hoisted upon him has done poorly for Nori's mentality; he finds himself fretting about even the day-to-day aspects of life.
Personable.
Nori has never before found himself attempting to measure up to others - as a result, his lack of competitive spirit feeds into a naturally friendly demeanor.
Uninspired.
Nori's mantra has always been to 'work hard', although shinobi are perhaps best served in 'working smart'. He is not particularly creative, nor cunning.
Dutiful.
Despite the toll it takes upon him, Nori recognizes that the Kyoku name has always existed to serve Amegakure. He will follow suit.
Prideful.
Despite his current demeanor and resentment at his family's demands of him, Nori grew up listening to the stories of his family, and will react, perhaps disproportionately, to those who make light of them and his own efforts. Furthermore, his insecurities render him likely to perceive slights where they do not exist.

Dreams and hopes:
To become a servant of Amegakure worthy of his family's traditions and demands.
To find a way of attaining the above without compromising his own happiness.
To master the 18 Divine Arms of the Kyoku Clan.
To perform adequately and become chunin.

Desires:
Freedom from anxiety.
To establish a connection with his father that is uncolored by the demands of the clan.
To be known for his facility in bukijutsu.
The respect of his team and sensei.

Fears:
Being unable to meet his clan's expectations.
His father's condition progressing to a more critical or fatal extent.
Losing any of the family's 18 Arms.
Making a mishap that lowers the estimation of the clan in the eyes of others, or of himself in the eyes of his clan.

Motivations:
Nori is driven by the demands of his clan, who are devoted to offering their sons and daughters - however sparse they may be - to Amegakure's military forces. He is driven to perform admirably and adequately, to reflect well as representative of his clan - in this regard, he is motivated by both responsibility and a desire for affirmation.

E-rank Techniques

Custom Jutsu:
Water Release: Syrup Bomb
Rank:
D.

Range:
Short/Radial.

Description:
Nori is capable of storing vials of syrupy substances within tags, and append said tags unto surfaces, or weapons such as kunai and the arrows summoned alongside his Yumi. When the seal is released (through the hand seal 'Snake'), the syrup is released in a short radius, and hardens promptly, potentially impeding factors such as movement and sight.

Weaknesses:
Unless delivered via projectile, a degree of misdirection is needed to make adequate use of the technique. Otherwise, the seal takes a brief moment to 'release', a window of time in which to evade. Given enough reaction speed, a large amount of the syrup can be swiftly removed before it hardens. Finally, the hardened substance can be removed through careful application of force.

18 Lovely Divine Arms
Rank:
D.

Range:
N/A.

Description:
It begins, as is common with weapon-summoning jutsu, with the unfurling of a summoning scroll. After performing a series of hand seals (Tiger, Dragon, Monkey, Hare, Snake), as well as the requisite minor sacrifice of blood, Nori unseals one out of several of his family's ancestral weapons. [see Equipment and Weapons].

Weaknesses:
As with most summoning jutsu, there is a window of time (the summoning period) that can be exploited and an advantageous position gained.

Equipment and weaponry
First Divine Arm: Bengoshi no Yumi (Lawman's Bow)
Type:
Bow (Yumi)

Description:
A large longbow of firm - yet pliable - redwood, it stands over two meters, bound with a drawstring of chemically treated horsehair. Given its size and material quality, the bow carries incredible tensile properties and is thusly capable of firing from exceptional distances.

In combat, the Bow is typically used from a position of stealth and surprise. To maximize the tactical impact of the critical first shot, Nori will typically append an explosive tag or his Water Release: Syrup Bomb unto his arrow.

Second Divine Arm: Chukabocho (Chef's Knife)
Type:
Description:
A metal polearm of about two meters in length, culminating, in a single-edged curved blade. Ultimately, the weapon is straight-forward enough, save for its singular gimmick; with the click of a switch located where the wielder’s dominant hand would typically be, the polearm ‘telescopes’, rapidly extending about another meter in length for the purposes of a surprise strike. It can be retracted through similar methodology.

Eighteenth Divine Arm: Sakuhana (Blooming Flower)
Type:
Description:
A ‘chain’ of three meters length, culminating in a weighted spherical head at both ends. The material make of the meteor hammer is particularly intriguing, the chain being crafted from what seems like the hardened stem of a plant, and the hammer-heads six violet flower petals folded into eachother. At a base level, chakra must be flowed through Sakuhana, to render the materials as sturdy and strong as battle-ready steel. With more advanced proficiency, chakra may be funneled into the weapon to unlock its full functionality; both the chain and the hammer-heads can be enlarged to triple their length and volume, thus maximizing their destructive potential.

Usage of this weapon is particularly taxing, as it requires constant chakra expenditure - Nori is currently, in fact, unable to safely wield the weapon for longer than three minutes. Furthermore, exposure to flames will ignite the weapon, causing it to wither into the ruined remnants of a plant stalk (the weapon can be regrown with careful application of chakra, but this is a process that takes at least a week).
