Yeah, those are the ones.

I actually pirated the books. Thank goodness for the Internet, otherwise I'd never have read them. If you'd like, I can teach you how.

The Night Lords hate being controlled, because they are the ones who control through fear. They see devotion to and corruption from the Ruinous Powers as a sort of enslavement, when Chaos should be a weapon they wield with impunity. The daemonically possessed Captain Vandred of (what remained of) the Legion's 10th company insisted that he "controlled this." And a Legionary Khornate Berzerker even had the gall to say that he "worshipped nothing," and that he was using Khorne's favor as just another weapon.

I highly recommend the novel series. Even though Talos, Cyrion, Uzas and Xarl are self-admitted murderers, traitors and sadists ("If there is a Hell, I will join you soon, brother,"), and you can't really put away all the innocents they kill across the books, you learn to empathize and sympathize with them. I found myself quickly coming to cheer for every loyalist or xenos kill they made, and worrying over the cracks in their armor after every battle.

I also learned that even chaos marines can crack a few jokes here and there.

“Nice sword, Night Lord,” the Terminator rasped, gesturing its storm bolter at Aurum pointed at his chestplate. Talos sighted down the golden blade, reading the lettering across the warrior’s armour: FALKUS, in faded indentations.

“Please,” Cyrion voxed over the intra-squad channel, “tell me that rhyme wasn’t his attempt at wit.”
I hope the GM doesn't mind if I control the warband's Fourth Claw: Sergeant Sorthraal, Havoc Malgadon, Berzerker Bas and Battle-Brothers Vorax and Udan.

I've just read the Night Lords trilogy and this style of writing is awfully addictive.
God knows I love this tyrant.
That 46k remark made me laugh pretty hard though.

I wonder if that's going to be a recurring joke.

"At least it ain't forty-six thousand."
"Brother," voiced Udan over the vox, as the two marines in midnight clad took one of the four paths at the juncture. "Sorthraal, I have news."

"Speak."

"I have found the mangled body of a Legionary at deck eighteen, near the tertiary apothecarion. Almost neatly cut in half crosswise by a power weapon."

"Lentus again," Sorthraal grunted in realization. "He has gotten worse."

"Would be fine if he didn't have a gods-damned power weapon," thought Malgadon aloud.

"Worry not. It was merely Xextus, one of our targets. The apothecary is harvesting his gene-seed as we speak," Udan continued.

"Where are you?" voiced Sorthraal.

"Deck nineteen now. I shall be at the bridge in ten minutes. I will see you there, brother," intoned the distant marine, and then the vox-link clicked closed.

The duo went for three minutes in silence till they happened upon another Legionary. Staring through the thin, knightly eye lenses of his Mark III war plate, Bas raised his chin in greeting, although he didn't say a word. As was common practice across the VIII Legion, the skulls of his foes hung across his armor, and the striking forms of forked lightning were painted in stark-white contrast to his blue ceramite. At his hip lay idle his bolter, but in his occasionally clenching fist was a whirring chain-axe.

"Hail, Bas," said Malgadon, as his brother joined him and Sorthraal in their steps. "Have you seen Vorax, by any chance?"

The reply was a simple "No." It was a rumble, almost a growl, that was given a tinny vibrato through vox distortion. Bas did not say anything more, but that was normal.

"I see," said the havoc, wondering why ever he thought his bloodthirsty brother would make for good conversation.
Amphion's mutants are cool, I think. Since they don't number forty-six thousand.
Right, sorry. Just a little irritated, since this is one of the very few WH40k RP's to take off in this site. I'd like to keep it moving forward and fluidly.
Lucoryphus had enough trouble handling 20 Raptors, but Crixus commands that and tens of thousands of others?

Shoulda caught the whiff of a Mary Sue at the enslaved Eldar harlequin.

@Warbozz

We have room, brother. I hope it'll be another impious Night Lord like Sorthraal over here.
You missed an i, so you've completely lost any chance of succeeding your charisma roll. Isn't it sad~?

My transgression is deep, your royal lewdness. Please flagellate me with the power whip.
