He wanted more unpredictability, which he got when he left the Navy and became a privateer. He began to help on explorations with random people rather than a government entity, and that helped make things a bit more fun, but it still was basically the same thing as before.

Hate to be picky, but a privateer works under the marque of a government, and would be working as a raider. Sounds more like he was a freebooter or a rogue trader by the description you've given of his activities.

Quotes:
"What can I say; shit happens."
"Hold your horses! Fixing a plasma rifle takes time, and if I'm not careful it can blow us all up."
"Well, that's a thing."

Why do I get the impression there should be a 'BOOM' between the second and third quote? :P

@SimplyJohn I may have missed something here, but where's your character??

I'm not playing a specific character, but acting as an overall narrator and speaking for various NPCs you may run into. More a hands off GM role than a participant.
Name: James "JR" Rourke

Still on the introductions phase of the adventure so you can squeeze in under the wire. Not sure why Felix didn't have you on the crew roster, probably just a military clerical error. A bit like the Invasion of Proxima Centaurii II (which was supposed to have been the Invasion of Proxima Centauri III.)

Regardless, considering Sevyn is still an expert pilot and has studied a variety of ships extensively, would Felix allow her to pilot the ship and would she know whether the shuttle and the Lone Star be compatible?

Might need a little sweet talking for Felix to give up his stick. As for knowing the Lone Star's docking configuration, are there any engineers in the party who could make a guess?
<Snipped quote by SimplyJohn>

You know if the shuttle happened to be someone's prized shuttle craft...

...then they'd hardly have let the military use it to transport criminals, ex-cons and vagabonds? :P
"I doubt this has anything as advanced as a teleporter on it. Can this thing broadcast power? I could probably stay conscious for ninety, maybe a hundred seconds with this suit on in space. If you could get me over there, I could attach the receiver and power the docking bay door."

"Sorry buddy," Felix's voices crackled over the 'com. "Best I can offer you is a communications array. Even if you could set up a power link, the shuttle's core barely provides enough power to run our own systems, let alone trying to tap into another ship's as well. Military's not exactly known for extravagance in their designs. Lowest bidder, y'know."
So for insertion, does the shuttle have a docking tube or something that can connect to and pressurize an airlock (assuming there's still pressure inside the ship)? If so we could just blast open the hole,go in, and find something suitably airlock doorish to plug the hole.

Or see if the ship still magicly has power and just land in the docking bay, that's cool too.

The shuttle has a docking tube, yes. Whether it'll be compatible with the Lone Star or not is something you'll have to test. Also getting that close to the ship could be a little tricky and Felix may not be the pilot for the job.

@Kalas Marga's skin does turn blue with in tractate patterning when she expierences extrems of emotions, but maybe Mez just chalked that up to something else.

Or that could be exactly how he discovered her heritage?
Love it! I'll see what @Kalas thinks, but I'm sold. The only thing I would add is that after he tried to kill her, she stole valuables from him and let any enemies they had made together know of his whereabouts.

Psycho ex-girlfriends, eh? Gotta love 'em, or you'll wake up one morning to find your pet bunny served as breakfast.

There are probably still items in her possession, or that she knows the location to, which she took from him which he wants back.

Which links back to your previous idea about her goggles, perhaps?
@Kalas
Given that his character is now an outlaw from his people...

Okay, stick with me here, 'cos this one's really messy. Mez's parents were killed as traitors, leaving him as a ward of the Lords indirectly responsible for their deaths. What if the treason they'd committed had something to do with helping smuggle Thuboisii through Visipian space? That would mean that Mez's rivalry was more to do with a deeper hatred of her people rather than against Marga herself, at least at first. It would also mean that the Visipians would have to be portrayed as more xenophobic than initially described, but this could always be included as part of the religious mania.

After he'd learnt the truth of his parents' fate and fled to the mercenary outpost he crossed paths with Marga and after performing a few merc jobs together, where he acted as cover for her more subtle forms of combat, the two became lovers. It wasn't until they'd been 'warping the frontier' together for a while that Mez discovered Marga's mixed race heritage and found himself repulsed at the thought of having soiled himself with a Thuboisii halfbreed. In a fit of rage he tried to kill Marga, only for her to escape him and disappear from his life.

Now, after many years apart, the ill-fated couple find themselves drawn together again, and Mez must come to terms with his feelings for his former paramour. Will he be able to overcome his racial hatred for his former lover, finally being able to accept her as she is, or will his ingrained hatred of her people drive his to make another attempt on her life?

And my having re-watched Code Geass recently and just remembered Villetta/Chigusa and Ohgi's relationship had nothing to do with me making this suggestion. By the way, if you haven't seen that anime I'd recommend it.
Oooo I like it! Extra mess with messy sprinkles on top, very good :D Though quick question, what do you mean by honour debt? Do you mean like restoring his reputation?

Restoring his reputation, or perhaps he'd been demoted due to the incident. Either way he'd suffered embarrassment and humiliation in the eyes of his peers, and now has to perform some monumental act in order to regain his former respect. Something like helping to recover the Lone Star, perhaps.

@Kalas Now how did she trick him? Do you want her to do it my manipulating him if she had feelings for her or maybe... er.... something else?

I'd suggest it be something where he would've believed he was doing the right thing and performing his duty right up to the point where she revealed he'd been played. It all depends on exactly what it was that got stolen, its importance to his people and just how much of an idiot he looked when everyone realised what had happened.

Of course, there's also the option that no-one back home knows the item has been stolen yet, and he's in a mad chase to recover it quickly so he can replace it before his mistake is discovered. Again that would give him reason to be part of the team, as he'd be there following her.
<Snipped quote by Kalas>
Alright, very good on that front. But I want a little bit more tension in there - or comedy. How about, when he was still tracking her for his government, she played the honey trap on him? Maybe to get information out of him about something she needed to steal. And then proceeded to steal the thing when he found out? Whether she succeeded or not doesn't matter to me. That gives them the sexual bit of the history anyway.
@Kalas
If you wanted to get really messy, perhaps she managed to trick him into helping her steal the item in some way? Then he'd have an honour debt to make up for as well as revenge.
I accidentally posted my character in the character's tab and not here so is she all good to go or?

Yeap, good to go. If there'd been a problem with it I'd have asked for her to be taken down.

Just to be clear I've also included a list of the character in the second post in the IC thread, so that people know which characters are part of the story.
