Knocking. "You can't hide forever," laughed a chaotic and hollow voice. It was ominous. Its' echoes bounced off the walls, deep and rumbling like an earthquake below, yet still filled with desire. A hunger, rather-- one that sounded insatiable until it would find its' target. The hunter wanted to make their prey afraid. Fear allowed for a sense of control, especially in situations where the one being feared isn't in control. The voice's target was a light-blue haired girl judging by the way she shook. Her active fighting stance, knife in hand, gave the impression of her having been in the situation more than enough times to know what to expect, yet her footing was unstable. A trait almost unheard of from Aeira Ketsueiki. She was attempting to make it look like she had control of the events transpiring, to distract herself from her inevitable fate. A large boom came from the direction as the voice earlier, yet it was too far away to truly tell what it was. Another one. They kept coming in an eerie rhythm, getting closer and closer to the pitch-black room the girl was in. She identified the sound as a door being kicked open. With each door, the grip on her knife became looser. Whatever hope she had of survival became looser as well, disappating when the bladed weapon fell from her hand. "There." She girl gave a shiver that turned into all-out trembling when she heard the sound of footsteps. Whoever that voice was, they began running. The footsteps got louder and louder until they stopped outside of the door. Any noise from then on went unheard by the girl, everything being drowned out by the sound of her own heartbeat. She managed to make out that same voice asking her a question, although she was unable to truly make out words. The only thing she heard was the tone. Knocking. The rabid assault on the door in front of her snapped the target out of her trance. Under any normal circumstances, her adrenaline would triumph over her fear. It's what made her seem fearless in many situations. What gave her the fierce reputation that she had as a 'vigilante.' These weren't normal circumstances. For the first time since days that the bluenette would prefer to be long forgotten, she had shown...fear? Shock? Sanity. The door slammed open. It should have brought in light and a silhouette, but to the girl's surprise, the only thing she would see was the newspapers sprawled across her desk and a window. "Again?" Asked a calm, motherly voice. Still unsure of what was real and what wasn't, Aeira quickly whipped around in her seat. Her crazed, fearful eyes met those of softness. Realizing what had happened to her and also realizing that she had embarrassed herself, she cleared her throat and turned away. "I have no idea what you're talking about." Her voice shook. She silently cursed it for revealing her lie. Again, she heard footsteps, but these were different. One could hear the anger, the extremity, and the aggression in the footsteps of her (dreamt up) predator. These felt softer, as if they were approaching with understanding and caring rather than a desire for destruction. Her wings tingled and made Aeira anticipate danger. This anxiety was soon calmed by a touch that only one person had mastered. "Was it the same one as before?" The other asked, Aeira's fears of it being that... thing chasing her going away. She found solace in the fact that Rui was here for her. Not that it was something out of the ordinary, but for some reason it came as a surprise. The young woman felt unworthy of her guardian's kindness. That never stopped her from fully embracing the reality that she needed it. "Perhaps...," the wing-massage ceased, coercing the mutant to fully admit the truth, "...yes. Except it was worse. This time." "How so?" Rui asked, starting the massage again. It made Aeira feel at ease. She sighed with displeasure. "I thought I had it," Aeira's fists clenched. "I was ready this time. But when he got there, I-," a pointer finger to the lips stopped her. "You were scared, right?" The older woman asked, prompting a small 'mhm' from her junior. "It's okay, I understand," Aeira wanted to express her doubts, but she let Rui continue, "but I also think something needs to change. You haven't been anywhere except the apartment for two months." This much was, unfortunately, true. About the same amount of time as this dream had been occurring. The same premise every time she went to sleep. The room would be dark, but the layout was so familiar to her that she had no trouble moving around. Someone would be searching for her. Any sound she made instantly alerted that person to her position, and they would kick down the room she was hiding in. Their voice, their figure, the way they spoke, it all brought back bitter memories of before she moved to America. The emotions that she had stifled before were coming back to haunt her.
"As new as the concept of being scared might be to you, you can't just let it control you so much. It's like you've lost all the drive you once had, and I just know that going outside just a little bit will make you feel normal again. And I care about you, so if you feel okay, I feel okay. That, and I can only pay off the rent by myself for so long. Which is why," Rui pulled out a wallet from her back pocket, "you're going to the festival." Aeira's wings perked up a small bit in excitement.
"Oh, o-"
"By yourself."
"What?"
Words were unable to and will never be able to describe just how annoyed and angered Aeira was. The Scarlet Devil, feared by not a lot of people, really many, known by again, not a lot of people. Most don't even believe she existsall, was forced into going to such a low quality, undesirable, deplorable, foolish, animalistic, uncouth, crude-
Immediately after having the door shut (and locked) on her, Aeira felt a deep desire to move. For as long as it took her to reach the festival grounds, Aeira ran, jumped, and flipped on just about everything she could find. This resulted in the annoyance of several passers-by, and possibly the dismantling of a booth or two, but she didn't care. The booths were outside of the festival grounds anyways, it's not like many people were planning to go there. She did care about the large crowd that formed around the festival. She jumped up on top of a nearby streetlight to act as a vantage point. If she didn't want to wait (which she didn't), then it would make sense for her to try to get through the crowd faster. Then, she began to plan. She saw that quite a few of the people in the crowds had larger heads. Simple enough, she thought.
Her use of the poor goomba-headed fools as stepping stones were to their dismay, but again, she did it without a care in the world. Being able to move felt so nice. To others, it would be a bit strange that her mood had shifted so easily, but that was just commonplace for Aeira and her childish nature. Noticing that she was causing a tiny bit of an uproar in the crowd, she started moving faster. Looking down, she could've sworn one of them tried to grab her foot and take her down. It didn't matter now-- she was too quick for people to do anything unless they were already expecting it. Favorably for her, nobody bothered to say 'Look out!' or anything, letting her get the upper-hand on everyone else in line. As she neared the festival grounds, she kicked off of her last victim's head and performed a corkscrew, giving the angry festival-goers a smug grin. A few of them pointing at her with angry faces made her eyes widen.
Running time, she supposed. Aeira ran through the festival grounds with urgency, while still being able to dodge the occasional tomatoes and rocks the big-heads were throwing at her with grace. It was to the point where she started putting it in the back of her mind, rather opting to look at her surroundings. There wasn't much to see, at least for her. She recognized that one plant lady, Rui talked about her a lot. Probably because the plant was the one to sell her alcohol. Thinking about it further, that did seem like quite the mutation. Aeira assumed that the plant was able to grow other plants, meaning she could grow her own food. Why was she living in the city, then? She could just go anywhere she wanted without necessarily needing society, right? Interesting. She kept her desire to talk to that lady more in mind, but then remembered she had an angry mob chasing her.
The small flash-mob was full of iiidiots though, so she was easily able to fake them out by making a quick turn over to the food tables. Watching them run straight ahead like a scene out of a bad children's cartoon made her laugh. She doubted they'd even think to come back for her. Standing up from her stealth-like kneeling position, she dusted herself off and looked to her side to see a girl by herself. With food. A lot of food. Was this girl really going to eat it all by herself? Ooh, her outfit looked really pretty as well! Where did she get those clothes from? Where was she from? How large must her appetite be to order all that food for herself? So many questions! So, so interesting. Aeira had to talk to her!

Aeira does not seek out criminals for the purpose of justice. She seeks out criminals (mainly mutants) to fight them. For her, it's a way to stimulate her that always works. After going after one and seeing them, she makes the decision of if they’re interesting or not. If they are interesting, she doesn’t touch them. If she deems them boring, she makes it her goal to kill them. The only exceptions to this judgement are those who are reported to have abused their family or children. Then, she shows no hesitation in seeking out and doing away with them. She sometimes assists the 'heroes' by doing this, however it is nowhere near her motive.

Detailed Information
Appearance 🔹 Aeira is deceptively cute, leading people to underestimate her. It’s obvious that she’s a mutant due to her bat-like wings. Their default size is very small and hardly noticeable, but in certain situations they grow out to the size seen in the picture above. The only thing Aeira has found that always results in this size growth is an adrenaline rush. Her wings serve no purpose except to look cool. She stands at about 5’6”, and weighs 125 pounds. Many mistake her for a child at first. She has deep red eyes (which are where her nickname stems from) and short, light-blue hair with bangs. However, she often hides her eye color by wearing blue contacts. She also has sharp canine teeth. In almost all normal situations, she can be seen wearing the outfit above. If not that, she wears lolita-style deep red dresses.
Personality 🔹 Aeira is a small, curious girl who is plagued by boredom. All of her actions stem from being bored. For example, she could purposely let herself be kidnapped because the alternative wouldn’t have been fun to her. There's an air of innocence and vulnerability around her. It's partially fake, but partially real. She is friendly and polite in public, but in private she tends to be a tad more bitter and irritable. As spoiled children do, she acts like a spoiled child. She pouts, crosses her arms, and stomps her feet whenever things don’t go in ways that are interesting to her. One can often find her acting in overblown and grandiose fashion. When she does find something interesting, however, she likes to preserve it and keep it close by. Especially people. She's never had a true friend, but that doesn't stop her from trying to make them. Aeira has an overwhelming fascination with vigilantes, especially those who eliminate their targets. Coming up with elaborate, detailed stories about her, just for them to be revealed as blatant lies immediately after, is a hobby of hers. She is an avid lover of music, knowing a surprising amount about its' history and always staying up-to-date on new artists. She loves being pet on the head, and she also loves it when people touch or show interest in her wings.
She prefers to only fight the things that are boring to her, as in her eyes, everything that is boring needs to go. Once she’s made up her mind about someone and fights them, the once somewhat bratty-yet-friendly girl turns into one that is focused on nothing but killing her opponent. Whether it’s efficiently or in a way that makes them suffer depends on which seems least boring to her. Aeira is always heard laughing whenever her opponents show signs of pain or fear. She relishes the rush of adrenaline she gets from a fight and the sense of control she feels.
Origin Preferring to keep her true origin a secret, she plays up the persona of being an all-powerful vampiric patrician. So fast that her movements seem like a blur, strong enough to destroy the sturdiest buildings simply by walking near them, powerful enough to manipulate animals around her, having the ability to transform into mist to evade attacks, and subconsciously regenerating so fast that she can't even feel pain, she claims that she is so strong that it just isn't fair, so killing her opponents is a show of mercy for her. In her words, she may be weak against sunlight, but as long as some tiny bit of her remains, she can regenerate instantly. Aeira also likes to tell people that she is a child of Tepes, but nobody knows for sure if she means the Dracula himself.
Well, let it be known that all of this is a blatant lie. In short, she is a child without parents who ran away from her home. Notable Relations 🔹 Rui Ketsueiki Aeira’s former headmaid, now her guardian (after the two of them had ran away to Azure City) who seeks out information about criminals. They are much like a duo. Rui is the brain who plans out every attack, and Aeira is the brawn who executes the plan. For a long time she would refuse to leave the house without Rui by her side. Aeira is often seen at places like cafés or museums with Rui. She cherishes all of these moments. The one person that knows her full history and her identity. The mother figure in her life.
Resources 🔹 Formerly, yes, she had an abundance of money. Now, all of her money comes from Rui working as a cook and herself performing on the street for people.
Everyday Skills 🔹 Drawing. Stealth, although she always blows her own cover on purpose. Gymnastics and acrobatics. As a child she was often seen executing mid-air somersaults and cartwheels that rivaled the skill of her instructors. She was also seen doing things like headstands on just her fingers, the amount of fingers required reducing with age. She uses this skill as a source of income.
Combat
Fighting Style 🔹 Aeira's fighting style is based on using her agility to outmaneuver her opponent. She doesn't hit hard, but she hits fast, focusing on either trying to trip up her opponent and take them down or finding quick ways to cut them. Once she finds her opening, she doesn't let up. She does whatever she can to neutralize her opponent as quickly as possible. She is a thrill seeker, always choosing to go in and fight someone up close rather than sneaking behind them. The areas she focuses on hitting first are the muscles on the knees and elbows. She excels in short fights, getting her damage in in quick, yet precise bursts.
Strengths 🔹 Aeira is extraordinarily agile, as a result of her power. She can perform acrobatic feats with balance and grace. She is also able to twist and contort herself into many different positions that would be uncomfortable for an ordinary person. These abilities give her parkour and free-running skills, making her more than capable of chasing somebody down. Her small size can help her evade hits. She has a high tolerance to pain.
Weaknesses 🔹 She is lacking physical strength. When someone finds an opening on her they can do a lot of damage to her, due to her small size and weight. Pain tolerance does not equal pain resistance. Getting hit will still damage her just as much as anybody else (obviously excluding those with more endurance because of a mutation). If she is caught fighting without her weapon, she is basically dead. She has to run away if it ever comes to that. In long fights where she is unable to find her opening, she will end up disadvantaged due to exhaustion from the nature of her fighting style. Cannot fight armored opponents.
A passive mutant power. Aeira possesses agility beyond that of peak human (and even mutant) levels. Strengths 🔹 She can go from one motion to another effortlessly. This can be used to dodge attacks, swing from things easily, do flips, do far leaps, and numerous other gymnastic, implements with little to no effort. Her tendons and connective tissue are more elastic than that of someone without this power.
Weaknesses/Limitations 🔹 Not requiring as much effort does not mean she cannot become tired. She can still run out of energy. This power also does not mean she can survive long falls or crashes into walls without being damaged. Over time she could do damage to her joints.
Extra
🔹 Inspiration for her power. Also a visual example She made the choice of taking Rui's last name, but she chose her new first name for herself. Her wings grow in cases of extreme emotions, flutter when she’s happy, and droop down when she’s sad. This all happens subconsciously.
the backstory is intentionally vague cause i want her to actually reveal it ic

"Ow..." Although her fall had been conveniently cushioned by the jester, that didn't stop it from hurting. The elf imagined that it hurt (who she presumed to be) Phann more than it did her, giving herself the mental note to apologize. Another mental note-- if she herself was chasing the butterflies and ended up here, that meant Phann was too. Whether it was for the same reasons, she didn't know. With as little as she did know about her classmates, she didn't remember Phann to be the predictable one. So it would be just as likely for her to have been chasing the butterflies for some reason as absurd as "I wanna eat them," as it would be for her to have been chasing the butterflies because she felt the energy within them. Side note: the word energy is getting kind of annoying. Mana sounds cooler. It also sounds like it's from a videogame, which means it's double-cool. "...eee… ahhhhhhh… hehe..." The sound of some weird unearthly goblin scared the hell out of her, prompting the elf girl to let out an unflattering shriek and jump up, barely managing to land on her feet. She was somewhat exhausted. Learning that the sound that she thought was a 'weird unearthly goblin' was Phann didn't make her feel any better. There was a small sense of security in knowing that she was right about her inference earlier, but in general she just felt bad. Also, she just noticed that she had flown into the air via a magic? gust of wind and landed on a frail-looking elf jester girl.
Shit.
"Phann! Are you okay?" The elf asked, quickly kneeling by her classmate's side and looking over her body to see if there were any visible bruises.
"I'm so sorry! I was just really focused on this butterfly because it felt really special and then I was following it and then my feet were all tingly and then I was flying, but I didn't see you until it was too late and I couldn't do the really cool wind thing again, I-" sound like a fucking idiot, apparently. She realized she was getting off topic, and she knew Phann probably wouldn't care about what she was saying. Taking a deep breath to reset herself, she continued.
"I mean, my apologies, Phann. It was my carelessness that put us in this situation. If there is anything I can do to make up for it, I will be more than happy to do so. Anyways, I'm Fa..." she began to say, but something stopped her. It didn't feel right to call herself by that name anymore. If the events that lead up to her smothering a fellow classmate and embarrassing herself meant anything, it meant that it was important for her to do what felt natural in this new world. Like how she had done with that...magic she performed earlier. The spell may have winded her a bit, but she still felt like it happened for a reason. Now, what was that name she thought she liked? "Tiki," she held out a hand for Phann to lift herself up with, "No, I am not a terrorist. Or a bus driver. Yes, I am a student, and yes, we should be moving away from Mr. Angry Roars." Looking around her, she noticed that the lizardman was digging into some hole, Albrecht was talking for a while, the pirate with robot arms was walking in the direction opposite of the forest, and the mysterious man-like figure was also walking in some other direction. She looked towards the forest. The sight of it had an unexplainable calming effect on her. Something about it told the elf that the forest was where she belonged, yet it was also clearly dangerous.
"I'm not sure if the forest is the greatest option to take here, Phann. Not saying that I don't agree with you, but," she pointed towards Albrecht, "Everyone seems to be following him. Normally, I wouldn't care for what others have to say or what they're doing. But this situation is different. We have no idea what would happen. Mr. Angry Roars could be a small reptile with a large voice, or he could be a gigantic monster with enough strength to wipe out all of us with ease. His roar could scare people away from where we are now, or it could attract many other monsters like him. And, most importantly, we don't have any resources. On the off chance that there is a town through the forest, it's much too dangerous for what we have right now. It's likely that the journey would be too long for us to make it there without water. Or food. While we do have magic," she looked at the ground (in fucking awe, there's actually magic?), "It's not something we'll be able to control right now. Or even know how to use." The elf groaned just thinking about what she was going to say.
"I think we--as in you and I-- will have to follow Albrecht for now. The guy I was pointing to earlier. In a time like this, the best possible option would be to stick together," Tiki stood up, before again realizing that she had landed right on top of the girl that was forced to listen to her talk for too long, "I'm sorry. Can you stand?" She asked, once again kneeling back down to the shorter elf's height. "If not, we can wait. It doesn't seem like we're going to be moving for a while. Not without the rest, at least. Either way, if you don't mind, I'm going to stay by your side for now. Elf solidarity, you know," She pointed towards her own ears.
She would give it some time for her new name to grow on her.
Tinu has a fun-loving, friendly soul that tends to accidentally cause trouble from time to time. Their respect for life shines through in all aspects of their life, like their fighting style and their adamant refusal to eat meat. Often, they go on unannounced detours, enjoying meeting new people and seeing new places. They have a sense of humor that includes slightly annoying their friends, potentially to their chagrin. They have little difficulty empathizing with anything, ranging from the small and short lives of the pharaoh ant to the lives of people around them. Their biggest downfall is not only stubbornness, but also anger when people act without care for the world around them.
They tend to be protective of life in general, being their friends’ lives or their enemies’. They strongly oppose against the act of killing in battle, the exception being Grimm. They are unafraid to do whatever it takes to uphold this value, even if it ends up ruining a mission. When there's someone injured or weak that requires aid, they're the first to throw themselves in front of them. If they can be a distraction and save a life, then they're succeeded in their eyes. This trait is more of a negative rather than a positive. It can lead to their making foolish actions in battle that negatively affect their health, not that they would care. Their protectiveness can also lead to emotional outbursts, especially when they feel as if people around them don’t realize the preciousness of life.
In battle, Tinu tends to be playful and condescending, abusing others’ anger or annoyance to their advantage. This, along with their high mobility and their fighting style focusing on evasion, lets their play the role of decoy. They excel in the act of provocation and enjoys making their opponents feel played with. This allows them to fight defensively and avoid seriously hurting anything (except for the Grimm), while still being effective. Their main goal in battle is to abuse the enemy’s emotions to make them focus on them.
_____________________
“Anyone’s capable of great good and great evil. Everyone has to be treated like they’re worth giving a chance.”
The quote that defines Tinu is also one that comes from her mother’s teachings. Her mother’s great-grandparents had once been part of a tribe, one that was almost nomadic in nature. The teachings of the tribe had been of peace, that all living things were precious and connected and life was meant to be preserved. The nature of the people was tranquil. The culture of this long-forgotten tribe was passed on by Tinu’s lineage, and it was their duty to uphold these values.
Upon hearing of Tinu’s want to learn to fight, her mother expressed disdain, yet not surprise. Her mother taught them a way to fight that would have the greatest chance of preserving life and taught them to travel the path of least resistance. This fighting style was defined by its’ coiling and uncoiling motions, swift and evasive in nature. The constant circular movements were made to represent something peacefully flowing through wind, and they were said to evoke the explosive power of it. Her mother hoped after learning this that they would still opt for a life of peace.
But learning of Huntsmen and Huntresses only further increased their want to protect others. It was a profession that her mother first expressed disapproval of, telling them that it went against what they had been taught.
Their opinion changed after witnessing Tinu go through several events in their life. They all had a similar pattern; a person, injured or simply physically weak, needed saving from someone larger than them. In all these situations, their semblance activated, diverting the bully’s attention from the other person long enough for them to escape. It wasn’t as if they had only done this when they knew they would come out safely, either. Many of those situations were with people much older and stronger than them, yet they showed little to no fear in the face of these events. After her mother became aware of this, she began to realize that the Huntsmen and Huntresses were the embodiment of the desire to preserve life.
As a result, she allowed the young Tinu to begin studying more and more about the outside world, while still teaching them of their culture. They quickly became proficient enough in martial arts to take down Grimm, and their ability to fight them only improved. Her mother allowed them to apply for Beacon, and they had been accepted.
They chose Beacon because of the name. Beacon made them think of a beacon of hope. A beacon of hope was something they wanted to be for everyone, no matter who that person was.

Their main motivation is their deep desire (and sometimes impulse) to protect everyone so that they themselves don’t have to. This ranges from children, to the elderly, to animals, and even to other fully capable students. They also believe that the spread their mother's teachings could change the world for the better, and even inspire the next generation to make a group based off of them. To become a Huntress would allow them to protect others with the ability to become respected enough for their ideals to be considered.
“All Eyes On Me!” Tinu’s self-named semblance represents their desire to protect. To be activated, Tinu must first have eye contact with the target. When activated, Tinu makes their presence unbearably known to their target. The target would describe it as like they couldn’t keep their eyes off them no matter how hard they tried. The semblance requires concentration, meaning if they are hit or if something happens that makes them divert their attention from using the semblance, it’ll deactivate. The main downside to the ability is that because it requires extreme concentration, it becomes hard for Tinu to move without crashing into something and unconsciously deactivating the semblance. It can be activated in quick succession if it was consciously deactivated. If they were hit or something suddenly got their full attention, the semblance would not be able to be used for 60 seconds. Their eyes faintly glow yellow, the color of their aura, when the semblance is active. Most powerful with a team.
Lom and Tam Two 12-ribbed, iron folding fans. The fans have both the ability to parry strikes when unfolded and to strike while folded. Both fans have air dust crystals imbued within them. The crystals can be charged, but only while the fans are unfolded. They are charged by either the wind itself or going through movement that is similar to the wind. In Tinu’s case, their fighting style perfectly compliments these weapons. Their aforementioned swift, circular, and flowing movements simulate the wind and allow the dust crystals to be charged (albeit slower than just having wind blow on them naturally.) If they were just moving and doing nothing else in an attempt to charge them, it’d take about a minute for them to fully charge. Only when the crystals are fully charged are when Tinu can fold the fan with the charged crystal. This releases the energy in the form of a blast of wind, one that can propel them in any direction she chooses (as long as the fan is pointing towards that direction). It can also be used to hit far away enemies.
As someone who is socially awkward about that sorta thing, mostly due to how I understand things, I find that a bit perplexing. But I'm not going to say. "Make it disappear either." The Nonbinary part that is. That being said... If my character does say things, please understand it is more of the character rather than my actual views and not how I actually view others.
I had a female character named Noir, and she snapped calling someone a "Whoreson" in a private rp and the player took it way to seriously... despite the character is well... just that. To take deep offense of how she was annoyed and uttered a phrase she normally would not say... is not me personally giving you the finger... Like, you'd assume everyone would know that the player does not equate to a character... But experiences tell me "You should just explain because people take things way personally."
(Yeah, some people just assume the player is just the character in different rps. And is usually if not always used as some type of commentary, because I've seen a trend on other sites where others cannot differentiate between the two. So I'm saying it now. Cassius is not me, and I'm not Cassius. What the character does and say... does not represent me. It is a character.)
The very tiny text however will actively be a pain on my eyes that my new prescription just isn't built around. That unfortunately is not something I am physically able to deal with. But I also realize I don't want to demand it be removed either; like who am I to tell someone how to enjoy their character? Fucking no-one in that instance.
oh dont worry, i know all too well about separating the player from the chatacter. its the main thing that makes roleplaying fun in the first place. also the main reason why i made the decision regarding pronouns is more personal and i’d prefer not getting into it in a thread, but if you wanted to dm me i would
also i’ll remove it dw!! all the info in the cs is the same either way
@sophI feel like her dislike will be updated to "Anything to do with Cassius. I hate him."
Joking aside. What is the deal with the pronouns thing?
And there is a lot of small text, even with glasses I'm squinting like crazy. XD
i wanted to have tinu go by they/them simply because i felt like creating a nonbinary character (++ i know how to write one), but i decided against it for reasons. until i said fuck it and decided to just go with it. the most prevalence it should have to their character is them correcting people when they first meet, otherwise it shouldn’t matter at all really
also the small text is for aesthetic but if it needs to be removed i can do it!!

Her opinion changed after witnessing Tinu go through several events in their life.
