Background

Poe was born to settlement in St. Louis based around a large manor estate, and he learned from a young age all about the many threats surrounding him. Legion from the West, Raiders from the South, Horrible Insects from the North, the Brotherhood of Steel from the East, and Super Mutants sharing his backyard space. The settlers of the estate compensated for their tenuous position with a strategic use of heavy ordinance, and so the young Poe grew up learning the ins and outs of explosive weaponry and handling the guts of a sophisticated pre-war security system.

All things come to an end though, and eventually the estate was raided by Rogue members of the Brotherhood of Steel, attracted to the estate by the security system. The settlers and the Rogues both wore each other down until none were left standing on either side, leaving the estate barren and empty...or so it seemed. The security system with its turrets and robotic sentries had been disabled during the attack, but whenever a new group tried to move in their efforts were stymied by an unseen assailant leaving traps and pitfalls scattered about. Too young to fight others directly, Poe was forced to survive using nothing but his wits, his proficiency with derelict technology, and the dwindling remnants of the estate's armory. As the years passed, even Raiders began to avoid the estate, with bodies and human remains found scattered around the premises that were so badly mutilated and torn apart that most concluded there was a Deathclaw infestation.

Eventually supplies ran out and Poe was forced to venture out into the wastes, where his trapmaking skills served him well. Over the years he acquired some infamy as a Mad Bomber, reveling in reducing those who crossed him into unrecognizable charnel. His take-no-prisoners attitude earned him the attention of the Regulators, who still have a bounty on his head - although they themselves have taken to avoiding him, having lost dozens of members in attempting to bring him down.

Despite his erratic nature, Poe is docile enough kept fed and watered, and he is indisputably brilliant with technology of almost any kind (medical equipment being a notable exception). He has more than two decades of experience in trapmaking, and can spot and disarm most traps faster than even the best of the NCR Rangers. While teamwork in not one of Poe's foremost skills, he is usually heavily armed enough to make even Brotherhood hesitate to attack. If properly handled, Poe is an invaluable asset to any ragtag band of mercenaries.

Tactical Evaluation

[list][*]If Poe can draw a good bead on a target, taking them alive will likely be impossible. Reigning Poe in to keep him from reducing select enemies to giblets will be necessary.
[*]Give Poe an Atomic Cocktail and some supplies, and he can stay up all night laying traps and alarms around the perimeter.
[*]Poe is absolutely no good at using or repairing medical and diagnostic equipment! Find somebody else to handle autodocs and biohazards.
[*]Unless heavily outnumbered or if the enemy is using powered armor, Poe can handle himself fairly well in brawls if he managed to make the draw with his pistol or bat - however, anybody who gets the drop on him before he can make the switch between weapons will likely get the better of him. Pairing him with a partner who doesn't rely on explosives as much should prevent this from happening.
[*]Poe has only a vague notion of what friendly fire entails. Try not to get mixed up with his target!
[*]Poe has an excellent eye and throwing arm, and can throw grenades to bounce, roll, or hop over enemy cover.

I'm not 100% certain if I'll join, but if I do it'll either be as an NCR Intelligence guy looking to sabotage the operation, or more or less the same thing, except Enclave.If that's cool with you. If not, I could probably think of something different.

Is the Enclave even still a thing after the events of Broken Steel? I don't doubt that there's probably a few bunkers left here and there, but East Coast/West Coast/Central America Enclave has pretty much had its command structure stomped flatter than all the soda lying around the wastes, and both the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel have shoot-on-site policies concerning them.

I'd like to know what everybody else chose for the questlines in the capitol. What did you do to Bob? Kill him? Accelerate the growth? absolutely nothing? What about the super heroes in canterbury commons?

The following choices are based (mostly) on the assumption that the Lone Wanderer made basically moral choices, but with the caveat that they were assisted by a high Intelligence stat plus high scores in both Science and Medicine. Accompanying are the actions of one of my more-played characters.

The common argument regarding the Pitt is that supporting Ashur is the logical choice in order to uphold the stability of the city. If Werher succeeds, there are no more workers making tools, building materials and ammunition, and while the cure is still sort of being researched the baby is being kept in a rat hole and studied by someone who MAYBE has 25 points in either Science or Medicine, but not both (as opposed to being studied in a modest if sufficiently equipped lab by a trained professional). The floodlights that Wernher makes a big deal about turning on to keep out the Trogs are entirely tertiary concerns, since the Pitt also has to deal with Wildmen, other Raiders, and more Slavers if Wernher's revolt works out.

WHAT I ACTUALLY DID

I supported Ashur because my character was already a slaver. Anybody with their head screwed on correctly would recognize Ashur could be easily assassinated/killed and replaced as long as the child is accounted for. The future of the Pitt is yours to decide.

Accelerating the growth would be tempting if one aims to restore the Wasteland. However, personally, the whole thing reminded me just a bit too much of Vault 22 and the Spore Carriers found at Big Mountain and Zion. Also remember that the damn tree has been influenced by FEV, and I trust that about as far as you can get trying to approach the door to Vault 82 without dying horribly. Assuming that our Lone Wanderer has sufficient Science and Medicine tagged, they would likely recognize both the danger of the FEV and any mutations present in the plants. The only 'moral' choice at that point is to burn Oasis to the ground. If you're feeling nice, stop Bob's heart before setting him on fire.

WHAT I ACTUALLY DID

My character just plain didn't like those hippies' attitude. Oasis was toast before they even realized Bob existed.

I like to imagine the Lone Wander took one good look between the AntAgonizer and the Mechanist during their verbal exchange on the street, rolled their eyes, and then blew both of them away with the Blackhawk.

Kill all the slavers in the Lincoln Memorial and assist the slaves with the restoration. One could make the argument that Old World influences are a bad thing due to how it makes people think (a common theme throughout all the Fallout games), but it's the Lincoln Memorial. Relatively speaking, that's more ancient world. There's no advanced technology on the spot either, so no harm to be done.

I took the guards' warning as a challenge, leading to a spiraling escalation of events leading to everyone in the memorial being deaded. Unfortunately, the exact same thing happened with the slaves. What goes around comes around in an L shape, it seems.

Do not kill the Slavers of Paradise Falls. Aside from Megaton and Rivet City, Paradise Falls is the only stable 'city' in the Capital Wasteland. Same general reasoning as supporting Ashur, really. Distasteful, but necessary for the purposes of regional stability. One good thing about Paradise Falls is that they have a monopoly on the slave trade - all human traffic goes through them. Better the devil you know.

Destroy the vial of FEV you get from Eden as soon as is feasible once you leave Raven Rock.

WHAT I ACTUALLY DID

Totally went along with that. The number of Pure Humans left in the entire world cannot exceed a few thousand, and that would be scattered across several Vaults and Enclave facilities. The number of humans needed to ensure long term genetic viability is around five hundred. So the purifier being affected by FEV would do absolutely nothing but kill people and destabilize civilization across the entire Capital Wasteland, which was amusing, and there is no chance of 'Pure Humans' coming along and rebuilding society.

Don't blow up Megaton, obviously.

WHAT I ACTUALLY DID

Guess what.

Talk Tenpenny into allowing Ghouls to stay in the tower. The Humans and Ghouls live together successfully enough at first, and there's enough positive thinking on both sides to make it seem outwardly viable even before WHOOPS Roy goes and murders all the humans.

Led the raid on the tower by the Ghouls, and then killed everyone afterwards before filling the whole place with mines. That will teach their corpses a lesson in complacency.

One query: If one presumes the Lone Wanderer did some inadvisable experimentation with the Death Ray aboard Mothership Zeta prior to the confrontation with Mothership Tau, this happens:

Fallout Wiki said When fired, the death ray initially strikes the Northeastern Great Lakes region, though as the resulting dust cloud expands, it eventually covers the general region of South Eastern Ontario, Western New York, and most of Michigan. The major cities of Buffalo and Toronto as well the natural landmark of Niagara Falls would be the closest to the devastation, assuming they still exist.

Sources elsewhere on the wiki indicate a minimum blast radius of 250 miles - pretty hot stuff, as it were. If that happened there's a definite chance a long segment of the Green Line is simply gone, along with basically everything else in that area.

Did or did not the Lone Wanderer push that button? ;)
