So, I recently finished the first season of Shadow and Bones, a new Netflix Original series that's based off from the Trilogy series of Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo. I'm researching more and more about the universe to really get the grasp of the setting, but I think it would be a beautiful fandom to get into by role-playing as well.
My plan is to eliminate all the Original Characters from the universe, so we might be starting way before the books and T.V. series takes place, before the fold. I do believe that would be a good starting point for characters that want to play the Grisha and would bring more drama into the wars that the regular individuals and Grisha are having which caused the fold -- Maybe in this universe, just a thought, the fold doesn't happen at all?
This is all an idea and if enough people show interest, I will definitely be stirring up boarders, powers, character sheets, and much more.
Edit ----
The Bone Road - A place that lies in the Northern part of the map that is in between the East and West in the True Sea. By the tiny islands of Jelka and Vilki. This is a place most will stay clear of while sailing because the rumors of the ancient ice dragon, Rusalye, supposedly lives in the sea.
Elbjen - The northern peaks of the Sikurzoi mountains, the mountain range that keeps Ravka and Shu Han separate and boarders most of Ravka's boarders.
Fjerda - A northern ice and snow filled country that is above Ravka and separated from the 'permafrost'. This country holds hatred upon the Grisha (witches), having skilled hunters, witch-hunters called Druskelle. The Druskelle go into other territories and capture Grisha 'witches' to be trialed at 'Ice Court', Djerholm. Ice Court 'Djerholm' - A place where Grisha 'witches' are tried and there has never been one considered innocent. This trial to most out of Fjerda is considered immoral and untrue. Sadly, no one tries to break through its heavy defenses and security that has never been successfully breached.
Kerch A small island nation that is economically booming through the roof and keeps hold of international trading and criminal underworld. Wealthy merchants have the strongest hold in this country and anybody that has wealth or power can have some type of pull. This country has made slavery illegal yet the merchants keep their slaves as indentured servants.
Novyi Zem - A younger country compared to the others, Novyi Zem, this country is made up of farmlands, an opportunity of an expansive frontier, and brimming coastal cities. This country is for the anonymous, the regulars, the Grisha, and anybody that wants to find an opportunity for themselves no matter who they are.
Os Alta - This city is where the Grisha are trained for military activities upon being the home for the monarchy. This capital of Ravka used to be called the 'Dream city', housing the Royal palace and the Grisha, yet a lot consider it a giant, dirtier version of the markets of Keramzin.
Shu Han - Have similar ideals to the country of Fjerda, yet they capture to experiment on the Grisha and figure out the origins for their powers. Ravka and Shu Han have been at war for centuries and will not die out of war anytime soon. The Sikurzoi mounts keep both of these countries apart and give them a harder time to declare war or attack because of the travel. Shu Han is a place that is advanced compared to the others. General society has a negative outlook when it comes to people from Shu Han, calling them Shu or part Shu to declare they are the enemy in some way.
Ravka - This is the country that is home to many different people, orphans, the second army, Grisha soldiers, and anybody that try to find a location away from the Northern and Southern countries that boarder Ravka. Ravka is tormented by the Northern country Fjerda and the Southern country Shu Han that boarder it. Both being against Grisha and the country as a whole, Ravka has a hard time dealing with both countries. Ravka has an expansive coastal line of port-cities that help its economy stay stable especially in the times of war.
The Wandering Isle - A county that is lush with vegetation and peace. A culture that supports the Grisha and their powers, seeing them as saints and healers that can fix all problems.
CorporalkiThe Order of the Living and the Dead This group is made up of Heartrenders; Healers; and Tailors. This group is considered the highest ranking Grisha in military and are titled the 'most valuable soldiers'. Heartrenders - can steal the air from your lungs, slow your heartbeat until you do not have one or are put into a coma, or crush your heart without a second thought. Healers - Self-explanatory, healers can fix you up better than what you started. Tailors - Two types, one who can change the appearance of themselves and others, sometimes permanently depending on their skill.
EtherealkiThe Order of Summoners This group usually works in pairs for it is easier to have a buddy while using this type of small science.
The Sun Summoner - they have the ability to summon and control sunlight. Extremely rare to be. Darkling - Rare like the Sun Summoner, they are the opposite, and they control the darkness or void of light. Squallers - Can raise or lower air pressure to create different types of storms. Infirni - They do not 'magically' make anything appear, they have to use their powers with physical items to get them started. They can summon combustible methane or hydrogen, they still need a flint to create the spark. Tidemakers - These Grisha use temperature and pressure to summon and control water.
MaterialkiThe Order of Fabrikators These are the least respected Grisha and Order even though they increase success in wartime.
Durasts - deal with solids states such as textiles, glass, steel, and corecloth (similar to modern day body armor). Alkemi - deal with creating poisons and blasting powders.
Characters normal to Grisha will be free-range unless you want to choose Sun Summoner or Darkling. Those two positions will be placed for specific individuals under DM/public conversation. The Sun Summoner would be considered the rarest (in the T.V. series there was one), undecided if we will allow a Sun summoner character to take place years before the Fold happens. The Darkling will have only one bloodline and anybody who is accepted as a darkling will be related somehow or someway.
Idea of a starting platform for the role-play; A war has sparked once again, unsurprisingly, between Ravka and Shu Han for the kidnapping of three Grisha Generals. The past few months have been preparing and fearing the worst for when one will hit the boarder line of the other. War is at the foot of the bed, are you hoping in to help fight? What side will you choose? Are you getting caught in the crossfire? Let's see where war can take you.
Characters will be detailed by description, a real photo, or a realistic portrait.
Alright the powers that I am thinking of for this magical winged-man are:
Chlorokinesis, also known as Agrokinesis, Botanokinesis, and Phytokinesis, is the ability to mentally and/or physically summon, control and manipulate plants and vegetation. The person with the ability can control and manipulate wood, rock soil, roots, fruits, and flowers, even moss found in natural field or habitat. They can use this ability to have their enemies ensnared in plants, or even telepathically communicate with plant life and vegetation; an ability known as "green-speaking." Users can influence and accelerate the growth of plants causing flowers and other plants to mature with supernatural speed, grow to unusual size, and produce in abundance. User can cause plants to grow from seeds to full-grown plants in moments, cause them to flower and produce fruits, seeds, etc. outside season, cause a cut plant to grow roots and other similar feats.
To make plants grow and appear out of nowhere. To cause plants to quickly manifest from the soil and wrap around a target. To mutate plants by rearranging DNA structures, and revive recently withering plants or dead plants. To create bridges out of wood or make vines grow and support the person to get him/herself on a higher level from the ground. To manipulate wood (dendrokinesis). To weaponize plants by hitting or grasping the target with roots and vines, projecting thorns at a distance. To release deadly toxins, venoms, and pheromones (toxigenesis). To keep bacterial fungi at bay. To summon Karpoi To sense magical items made from wood. To telekinetically move plants. To sense the location of plants. To telepathically communicate with plants ("Green-speaking") To teleport through plants. Summoning or creating plant-based weapons such as spears, shields, or arrows.
That is my thought for the only power element my character would have; planet-based.
@Vampiretwilight, I noticed that my character is suppose to be magical or magically inclined; would you like me to DM/discuss with you an add on to his biography? Maybe discussing his powers or what he is capable of? Because, I feel like that might matter in some situations for it to be stated in the bio.
Zackariah looks like any other man except for the bird, falcon pattern, wings that are attached to his back. Pale skin fits all his slender and semi-athletic physique. A sharp jawline with strong brows and facial features hold almond shaped ocean eyes. Gold to dark browns of curly-wavy hair fitted to a wild yet nice length that barely passes his ears but still has waves of hair come in front of his face if not slicked back or styled. A shorter full-beard hides the sharp jawline that carries his face yet it compliments his naturally wild and darkened appearance. A gentle or kind expression is usually shown upon his resting face. Upon all of this, he stands approximately 6'1 and seems to weigh around 170 pounds.
This whole appearance is of somebody that is around the ages of twenty-five. An actual age? An unknown species, a magic species at that, Zachariah and others do not have any determination to how old he will live to.
Biography
Zackariah was born with magical abilities and wings from a regular couple, he was considered an unfortunate child from hell, and he was sent to an orphanage shortly after his birth. Most were uncertain on how they should up bring the young child, most children teased and bullied him to a point, but he didn't mind the behavior from the other children. Most of the time the young boy stayed to himself and studied for the orphanage-mother always told him that he either would have a weapon forced into his hand or be a scholar in this world -- He chose to be both.
A young man, Zackariah decided to join the branches of war, and he started out doing that career in his teenage years. He had nothing else going for him, no adoptions, no second looks, and the mother of the orphanage was worried he was going to be dead by the ripe age of twenty. Wanting to prove to everyone that he could be something and not die by the age of twenty, he instead stayed motivated towards a goal to show his mother, the orphanage mother, that he could stay alive and live a promising life. This journey was to help the orphanage as well -- He didn't want to see any of the others suffer within their childhood; he wants to make it better.
This betterment to the orphanage started with his war-path career, being a foot man, then a long-shooter, and raising ranks without a bat of the eye. At the young age of twenty-two, Zackariah was marked with titles of General of the Second-Level army. Being able to control such a giant fleet without an issue, he can be a powerful man if needed, and he tries his best to stay to himself. Staying to himself, being the blame for most, and he stays humble towards the civilization as a whole unless you are on the other side of the war.
A lot have many rumors to go about the winged man, these rumors have made the majority of people title him 'The winged General'. He tries his best to stay easy on the eyes in public, but he relaxes back when not in the public or royal eyes.

This seems like an interesting role-play, I will be following. For character/rank/part of the system decision; I am somewhat interested in the suitor with wings.
