If you're a night shifter and you have insomnia, what does that make you?

Bio

I guess this is where I tell a little bit about myself...

ER nurse by night... also gamer/RPer by night. Look, I'm not as strung out as Batman over here, so I sleep during the day. Cut me some slack!

As a night shift nurse, I work 3 to 4 days a week on 12 hour shifts and sometimes more as needed. This severely limits my ability to write/roleplay on those days

I'm 30, for those who care about age. I prefer to play as women--but am willing to compromise as needed.

I'm reliable for around a 3 to 5 minimum paragraphs with good grammar and spelling, usually more. However you would categorize that.

I enjoy most any type of RP as long as it has a well-thought out premise, characters with depth or whom have the possibility of development, legible writing, and of course a great partner!

I love fantasy, sci-fi, dark, steampunk, romance, intrigue, and mature themes more than others. I especially think that most any story can be improved with a bit of romance--if it makes sense within the context of the story.

Negatory on sexual assault or similar themes. I can handle mature, dark, and even very violent scenes. (I'm a trauma nurse at a level 1 trauma center, so you can't really gross me out) but I don't touch on the abusive for abuses' sake. I get enough moral injury at work; I don't need it here. 8P

As previously mentioned, I love games! I love pretty much every type of game--except for racing games minus Mario Kart. May be interested in the right game-based RP setting, but I really prefer original characters if that is what you are after. If I wanted to play the characters from the game... well, I'd just play the game. xP

Sound like someone you need in your RP? Message me! Happy to chat when I can. (8

Keir was fascinated by the way that people moved. She couldn't decide if they looked very organized or lost out of their minds. Most just looked like they'd have a few too many drinks; it wasn't hard to see the flush of color that framed the edges of their masks. Before too much longer, she'd have to find her own way to the libations. No doubt they would be easy to spot with the thickest of the throngs huddled close by. She began to move through the crowd, people-watching as she went--one of her favorite past times. As she did, the scene almost looked like a dance planned ahead of time: one person greets another person and either pretends that they don't know who they are or--if they truly don't--pretends that they do know; pleasantries are exchanged along with well-wishing for each other's families, the future Queen and King, peace for the two realms, and perhaps some gossip of the last person they greeted; then they shed the facade to move away and start again. When some of the more notable lords or ladies were 'unmasked', a sizeable host of admirers would flock to them, flush with praise and knowledge of their family's good deeds. They, too, would be gossiping a moment later about the more... unsavory parts of the said family's past.

She smirked at the goings-on; she felt that if she watched for much longer, she might even be able to imitate them reasonably well. Many of these people didn't even need masks to hide themselves as they did it on a daily basis. In many ways, it was dishonesty by a different name, all prettied up and made palatable for polite company. Keir might be wearing the physical mask, but she could never bring herself to wear a dishonest one. Luckily, not all nobles behaved in such a manner. Lady Julia among many others in Sliabh conducted their affairs in an honest way. Keir had high hopes that she would find many like minds here in Abhainn as well. After all, they hadn't been so different so far.

After pausing a moment to decide where next she should make her way and whether or not she should try engaging in the 'game' of the evening, the decision was made for her when a man in red velvet paired with a rather wild looking mask approached and gave a swift bow.

“Greetings, my lady. An interesting night, is it not?”

She gave a quick curtsy in returned but studied his mannerisms closely; it was easy to do seeing as his eyes were glued elsewhere in the room. Keir spared a quick glance at his target and almost immediately recognized the gown and the woman wearing it. A sly smirk crept onto her exposed lips as she turned back to the man.

"Good evening, my lord. It seems so if one knows where to look." His sarcasm had not gone unnoticed; she considered it a very useful tool, one she'd picked up as a girl with two older brothers but which she honed after her family received their new title. Her own sarcastic reply aired, Keir had her own inquiry to put forth. "I cannot decide whether your mask is intended to lure people in or drive them away. Did you make it yourself?" While she figured she might as well attempt to make some semblance of a conversation with the man despite his apparent disinterest in anything but Lady Julia, it was a genuine question.
@HushedWhispers Ah, good! I'm glad everything is going according to a plan or... something or other. xP

Keir would have been hesitant to leave her Lady's side so soon, but she knew that she would be in good hands with Lord Aedan. She hoped the matters that they had to discuss were not too serious in nature. The atmosphere surrounding their arrival already felt too heavy and who among the observers could disagree after the spectacle to which everyone was exposed.

Her escort took Keir to her own room first, and at Keir's insistence, showed her the way to Lady Julia's room from there. She used the trip to start memorizing the layout of her new abode--at least for the time being. Her own quarters weren't too far off and they were far from bare. Even when she stayed at court, Keir did not live with so much finery around her. Then again, she did not actually stay in the royal palace for the majority of her time with Lady Julia. Her family had been granted an estate near the palace like all the other lords and ladies when her they were given the title. Of course, the Farren Estate wasn't as vast or as well decorated as all the others, but you couldn't find finer gardens save at the palace.

She'd brought few evening gowns of her own. Her family's allowance hadn't raised so much that they could spend wantonly, but luckily for her, Lady Julia was a kind and sharing soul and always humbled Keir with a pick from her wardrobe for many an occasion. It was a fine collection, to say the least, but what else could one expect from a future queen? Keir had searched through some before giving up and deciding on a bath first. Her thick locks always took an inordinate amount of time to dry so best to get it out of the way early. After a good soak and scrub to rid herself of the invisible layer of filth she had felt settle with being so close to the gruesome scene, Keir felt much more refreshed and ready to face the evening.

Her feelings were a bit split on the revelation that this gathering was to be a masquerade. On the one hand, this was a great boon for Keir. Whereas the company she walked among had been raised into this life, Keir was still learning the finer points to being a lady in high society. It had been a slow and painful assimilation for her thus far and she still had some ways to go; she still remained quite awkward in many interactions. On the other hand, this means that unless someone could tell whom she was, she would be free of any judgment or ridicule on behalf of any faux pas she committed. She decided to go with boon.

To embrace her new anonymous role in society, she opted to leave her hair down for the evening rather than tidying it away from her face as was her custom. Now she just needed to find something to wear before she could complete the ensemble. As she retraced the steps she took earlier in the day to Lady Julia's room, she wondered if she had already left for the party. It was for her, after all, and it wouldn't do for her to miss the festivities and her curious guests--how could they not be curious about their incumbent queen? She gave a gentle knock on the chamber doors as she arrived but heard no response. She gave a second louder knock in case she hadn't been heard the first time. Still no response.

Keir pushed the door open slowly now and spoke out as she did. "My Lady Julia? I've come to pick out a dress..." She trailed off as she entered the room fully, seeing no one inside. She knew her attendants had been in here earlier, but perhaps they were off to spy on the party now that their patroness was off--as they were want to do. Pushing the door closed behind her, Keir decided that she could finish changing in here after he selection. As she turned back, two large shapes and bright colors caught her attention at the periphery of her vision. Turning fully to face them, she saw two boxes. They almost looked like presents.

Keir's mouth dropped slightly as she peered inside the boxes; it was a gown and matching mask. A thought occurred which made her most pleased. She moved forward now to look for a note, but found none. With further investigation of the room, Keir found all the telltale signs that her ladyship had come, bathed, dressed, and gone. For whom else could the boxes be? It seemed clear to her that Lady Julia had played an unfair but most loving trick on Keir when she'd told her she could pick out a dress but had a gift prepared all along. Perhaps she retrieved the mask in the time between their arrival and Lady Julia's departure for the party. That had to be it. Somehow Keir made all the puzzle pieces work, and of course, Lady Julia was so generous with Keir that it was completely within the realm of possibility in her mind.

She couldn't debate it another moment and immediately set out to putting on the lovely velvet purple dress with gold trimmings. It flowed beautifully around her and fit quite well, though the top dipped down a bit lower than Keir usually liked, but no matter. She gasped as she pulled the mask from the smaller box. She loved the curves and the colors and she hoped that those stones she saw laid in it were purely decorative. She could never pay Lady Julia back for such a lavish gift. After donning her disguise, a little color for her lips was due; another habit she did not generally practice except when required. Tonight certainly required it. She decided to go with a lovely violet to match her garb.

Her ensemble complete, she took one last look in the standing mirror before making her way to the ballroom. She was ecstatic with anticipation. Of course Lady Julia would recognize her since she picked the outfit out, but Keir did not mind if she knew. In fact, she preferred it. As she entered the ballroom, she stopped the announcer as he was about to say something and motioned for him to stay quiet. She descended the stairs to the floor below, searching faces in the crowd for any signs of familiarity or any signs of recognition from others.
Ooo, I have a wicked fun idea, seeing as how Keir hasn't entered the party yet and there are some unattended gifts in Lady Julia's room...

Hmm...

But I dunno if that's Keir's style. I suppose we'll see how it plays out. xP

Edit: Okay, so I did it. Couldn't resist. Let me know if this is not okay and/or you need me to change anything!
Sorry, worked last night and working tonight and tomorrow, but I'll get my post up after that! So tired... must sleep now. z.z
Rulers never have complete control over anything so keep pushing that boulder uphill, Sisyphus.
So Jack lives in evil Mary-Sue land?
So... how long as it actually been since Jack has been in power? Not very long, from my understanding. How does he have all of these brainwashed generals, secret police, and under-thumb religious figures?

And you mention that Jack's "people" share the same goals as him. What goals does Jack aspire to beyond wanton murder?

Also, religion doesn't usually dance to the tune of men--even men in power. Just look at Henry the VIII. He had to really pull some teeth to get away with the soft-core kitten play--compared to Jack's--stuff that he did and even then, he didn't get away with all of it. Unless you are like a pharaoh in which case you are said to literally be the embodiment of a god on earth.

Wait, I've just had an epiphany: Jack is not only a murdering lunatic, but he's also having grandiose delusions; he just thinks that he has all of these things working for him. That totally makes more sense.

In all seriousness, this has been a fun discussion to watch so far, to say the least.
And didn't the old kings die not so long ago? The only brainwashed soldiers would be children, teenagers, or fairly young adults. All the adults will remember what it was like to have a sane king. If you look at history, psychotic and/or murderous monarchs don't last very long even in their own kingdoms. Especially if you roll up into another sovereign's lands and start killing folks for no good reason.

Everything in moderation. Even murder, lol.
Oh, good! I just didn't want to infer anything that you hadn't implied--and I'm one of those over-thinkers so it is known to happen! I'll be interested to see how the relationships change from the start as things get in further. It is easy to dislike someone when you don't know them well; likewise, every rose has its thorn(s).

I would have added that Jack was on Julia's side but... I feel like Jack is always on a special side of his own. For Jack, By Jack (I feel like I just came up with the title of his autobiography)
