He has to be able to see the attack coming and be able to react to it. Anything moving sufficiently fast or from an angle he doesn't anticipate, he won't be able to stop. He also can only affect the density of an object for a while before he gets tired; keeping himself hardened isn't a reasonable thing for him to do. I could also write in that in his current state, he can't decrease the density of an object while increasing the density of another object, so he has to choose between increase his own density or decrease that of an incoming object, which adds more reaction time.

Alright. I would maybe suggest adding in a short delay for when how quickly he's able to change the density. Like, say he has to focus on it to do it right or something like that. This probably wouldn't really affect anything other than his ability to nullify attacks anyway, so it should be a pretty good solution

don't mind me

You win
HANA

Just like before, Hana was so focused on her book that she didn't even notice anyone walking up to her. She made a frightened jump when she heard the voice, and immediately looked up to see a short haired boy in a blue jacket looking don at her. Oh no, not this situation again. Hana just simply held her book up and showed the title of the book to avoid speaking like she did last time. The book was the same book she was reading when she was talking to Sumiko
I might have to take a break from roleplaying for the most part, since I'm part of a group here and we're running around everywhere in Korea. I'll try to post now and then, but I wouldn't consider myself active.

Sorry, everyone

Don't worry, I understand

Hmm...I feel like this has a similar problem that Azereiah's character had. What's stopping him from just using his ability to nullify any attack that comes his way?
AKIKO

Akiko turned around in response to Shinichi and scoffed. "Yeah right. She's probably just running late" Akiko said as she crossed her arms. "It's so rude for people to not be here on the times they say they will. Do they expect us to wait forever?" Akiko complained, still completely ignorant of the irony of her complaining about someone else being late. She then let out an annoyed sigh and continued her anxious pacing between the trees

Or just have it that both happen. You can stay there if you can't go back home.

Maybe it's just an elective kind of thing, like they're allowed to do it if they feel compelled to, but there's no rule saying they have to or anything
@CondorTalon
There were already non-first years waiting outside, so I suppose it would have to the be first option. However, the students do live there during the school year

I imagine that Brock will probably be going to the nurse a lot. Accepted

EDIT: Whoops, missed this post

4. Presumably, the years are sorted by how long they've had their powers? Like, a 17 year-old person who's just manifested their power would be a first-year, while a 15 year-old who's had their power since they were 13 would be a third-year.

The years are sorted by how many years they've been at the Institute. If a student joins the school for the first time then they're a first year, if they join for a year then come back the next year then they're a second year, etc. Years also aren't really like real life grades in the sense that the students aren't really divided based on them, they're just sorted based on their individual skill and knowledge level. So like, if they perform badly at the Institute then they're still referred to as a [whatever amount of years they've actually been there] year, but are usually given lower level stuff and put in classes that lower year students are usually put into

5. If I make a first-year, can it be assumed that they were just there with the rest of the first-years, not interacting with anyone or only interacting with NPCs?

Sure, that would be fine (especially if it makes sense that your character would do that anyway)

6. Are higher-year students assumed to already be in the school already?

Could you be a little more specific with this question?
1. Can I join still?

It's always accepting, so yep

2. Hard cap on characters?

Nope

3. Has anything of note happened yet? If so, is there a short summary I could get?

Honestly, not much (unfortunately). All the students and teachers waited out in a field for a pretty long time waiting for the Institute to be revealed, then it was finally revealed to be invisible and it opened up for everyone to explore immediately after that. Right now I'm trying to organize all the first year students to play a game of capture the flag, but since I just started doing that an hour ago, nothing has happened with that yet
@Silver Carrot
Yeah, any players who aren't going to be a part of it are free to do something with each other (which I would recommend)
@Azereiah
Yes, the idea is that they're fully able to use anything that's available to them, including their powers
