Bio

I got into Roleplaying, er more specifically Post by Post Roleplaying around, I think it was four years ago? It feels much longer than that. My good friend whose now far too busy in college introduced me. He wanted by make a Mass Effect RP for his younger brother, or Cousin, something along those line. The games series was far to mature for someone of his age but he felt he could make a family friendly RP. And while that never panned out, I was hooked. Fast forward to the present day and I'm an avid RP and casual writer. I mainly prefer Fallout RPs, and am working on my own which will take place in the fictional Lore of Alaska. But it's far from ready. Between my laziness and my workload of various RPs and Videogames I am often rather busy. Yet I always find myself exceptionally bored. So I like contemplating Philosophical Conundrums.

@shadowkiller912I think a good minimum post rule should be about five paragraphs. Too much more and it stops being casual. I still think we may need a few general rules. Perhaps a rule to allow GMs to intervene should a situation get out of hand arguments or meta gaming where Players just somehow know what the others are up to without sending scouts or learning first hand.
@shadowkiller912What other things do you think we might need as rules go?
@shadowkiller912 What if we added a rule to describe the general population's current attitude? Say we make trade deals and such and the citizenry aren't too happy with the other Nation for whatever reason, be it bitter relations or how they treat certain casts of individuals bigotry with Mutants and the like.
Try and work out whether or not there'll be a goal. Or if your RP will be more character based. You know building relationships, going about their daily lives. If you decide you want a goal think what would best work to get all the players on board, don't let them go to far off course. Make it known if you have a goal based RP that you are in charge and you want to keep everyone on task. But allow input if they think you're doing something wrong. And consider that possibility.

A good goal could be trying to escape the Vault, and you can further complicate things some time down the road with the infamous Vault Tec experiments. Though some are more obvious at the start than others. Like Vault 69 Where one man is trapped with a thousand women, or some such number.
@Vilageidiotx Those are some good suggestions, and we already do some of these like the "focusing on individuals that make up the nation". Problem is we might not go far enough. There seems to be a small handful of characters who revolve around the leader and we barely see any actual character development when we are not in our IC yearly convention.

That is to say a bunch of leaders holding hands and making trade deals. Now it was better in the earlier iterations of the genre there was more War, several people got wiped out, and returned. Another problem I thin is; we burn though posts. We tend to move faster in general, it's not odd for there to be several posts every other day. Which I'm just throwing out as an example. These posts are roughly anywhere from a couple sentences or three or more paragraphs depending on what the reply calls for.

We don't do as much collaborations on posts, just general stuff where to be or what we want. We'll partially flesh out the setting to suit our needs. We do base the entire RP of a game series so there's already a lot here and there, all we have to do is fill in the blanks regarding unexplored regions of America.
Perhaps for a collaboration (or, hec, have it GM controlled) where either one nation gains a little too much power for it's own good and trys to throw its weight at everyone (what i speak of would actually be OP, so make sure the one doing it is mature enough not to complain if other nations gang up to fight, and make sure said person is not afraid of losing, but also who won't just wipe everyone out), or have a group of nations that allign and attempt to form a new order which attempts to squeeze out anyone who doesn't want to join it.

In the meantime, have events such as natural disasters, whatever come up to spice up the gameplay... I don't have a single thing to do with fallout, so not too much I can really offer here.

Thank you, I'll have to consider some of these. I do hope I get more advice from those more knowledgeable than I regarding Nation RPs. MKore opinions are always good.
Before I start let me clarify a few things, first the Nation RP I'm speaking about is on another forum board, the Bethsoft forums http://forums.bethsoft.com/forum/42-fallout-artwork-and-fan-fiction/ They strictly regulate RPs to either Fallout or Elder Scroll RPs, well because unlike the Roleplayer Guild the Bethsoft forums is a Gaming Forum and Roleplays are mainly for the minority who would like to role play their favorite series.

Second because the Bethsoft forums are a Gaming Forum, the Roleplays there tend to cater to more casuals even though there are great writers there, many just want an easy experience without bogging things down with stats or numbers.

A lot of our problems stem from predictability, often RPers tend to play BoS, NCR or Enclave time and time again, or similar iterations of them. For those who don't know who they are, I'll keep this short and simple. Fallout takes place in a retro future where the Cold War never ended, that is until 2277 when the world was covered in nuclear fire. The NCR are a expansionist democratic government.

The Brotherhood of Steel BoS are a quasi-religious technological organization that was founded by remnants of the Pre-War military who horde technology to prevent it's misuse, because of this they have butted heads with other factions and have made powerful enemies and few allies.

And the Enclave are a Shadow Government who attempted genocide twice only to be thwarted, they are a collection of the greatest minds who have been beaten like a dead horse in the series. Yet as RPs go alternative history takes precedence over lore.

These are just a few examples there have been numerous iterations of various Nations based off these groups.

The other problem we face is Trade, Trade, Trade. And no mention of War. War has been mostly avoided in the recent reincarnations of the Nation Roleplays. Mainly because we're afraid to step out of our comfort zones and there's just no reward for it.

Our Nation Roleplays are Community GMed, as we're more a tight nit group. We've been RPing together for a few years at least some longer than that, all in different types of Roleplays.

I had some thoughts about just breaking the mold to what we're used to, one opinion was to simply change it into a GMed RP, where more power would be assigned to the GM. Which maybe would allow the GM to have more of a say as to which Nations are submitted. And maybe would help with increasing War.

I also thought about a short stat ruleset for Wars, which could make them less intimidating.

But still I ask if there's any suggestions the Roleplayers Guild can offer. A way to make Nation RPs more interesting again for us.
Finally got a post up, Eva is now current with the timeline.

A Mysterious Dr. Coil has been mentioned! Who could this evil mastermind be? And what does he have against the Mayor!? Tune in some week to find out. Maybe. Until I write up another post.

Current day

When I awoke the Police had plenty of questions for me, and while I did my best not to let on that I knew too much I suspect the detective, a man named Alan Sutlher had visited me on several occasions after that asking small questions like how I was holding up, and I would respond nonchalantly. And Arthur followed him everytime he left, and unsurprisingly he’d hang around long for an hour or so he’d walk the halls or sit on the roof of his car and eat watching my room.

I needed three surgeries to set my bones and numerous stiches. All the while Arthur mercilessly trained me in my dreams. Just like a Ghost to haunt my sleep, but he was right about one thing I had power nothing so immaterial as flight or eye beams; though I wouldn’t mind something anything like that. But as the days went on and turned into weeks, then ran for a few months, I began to doubt my own self. Arthur had encouraged me even as he ran me ragged to the point where even after I had a full eight hours I still felt exhausted. I dragged my feet between the check-ups and visits with my Aunt.

I had the feeling Arthur knew I was unable to properly wield Excalibur, I just hadn’t built up the muscles for that. But he assured me mere strength wasn’t all that mattered. It didn’t help the news was nothing but Alien invasions and the Demonic apocalypse for weeks. Icon was simply amazing all the Heroes were, they felled impossible foes. And no matter what Arthur says I still don’t think I could match them.

And like that the day of my release finally came, my Aunt was worried and excited all the same. She walked me out of that Hospital with a wide smile that exposed years of wrinkles along the bridge of her nose and cheeks. And somewhere Arthur followed closely behind as I took my first step in to her silver Buick carrying Excalibur in his ghostly arms. I’m sure someone saw a floating sword, the thought is kinda funny really.

“The Doctors said to take it easy Eva, promise me you won’t sneak out late anymore?” Aunt Briley said with a tilt of her head as she turned the ignition.

I sighed heavily dreading ‘the talk’ as it were.”Aunt Briley -” I said dragging it out. “I won’t get attacked by any dangerous criminals I swear. It was a horrible accident, and they were obviously there to steal valuables, not kill little ol’ me.”

Her eyes struck me sharply as I could tell she was beginning ‘the talk’. “Eva Walsh! It’s dangerous now more than ever. You’ve seen the news, gangs and violence are at an all time high. And to top it off there’s been public threats to the Mayor from a supposed Evil Scientist a Dr. Coil. It’s all over the news.”

Aunt Briley.” I rolled my eyes at the thought of being cooped up all day and night. Her eyes burned into my skull as the look she gave me sent cold chills down my spine. “I promised your Parents I’d keep you safe, and I’ll be damned if anything were to happen to you. Now you will obey my curfew or so help me I’ll throw you into a Military School.”

The car pulled up to her house, a rather large house by New York standards. Aunt Briley ran a successful company Poseidon Energy, not that I knew too much about what they did. But I think she mentioned the government a few times. That much I did know, and she could easily throw me into any Military School. A part of me just wanted to die, the other had doubts that I could track down those criminals.

As Aunt Briley took the key and opened the car door. She kept glaring, and it was best I kept quiet at least for now.

“Go inside Eva and clean up, I’ll prepare dinner.”

It felt like forever since I last saw these doors, as I walked through the house and into the Bathroom. The water poured over my hands as I splashed my face, when I looked up Arthur was floating behind me and I tensed up and bumped into the counter. “It seems your Aunt is distressed, she must be worried about you.”

Worried! She has me on lockdown, how am I supposed to train?

Eva, she’s distraught. I’m sure these past few days have put a toll on her. You’ll understand how she feels one day, for now. I see plenty of room for daily training, we just some weights and exercise equipment.

Ignoring Arthur’s comment about my Aunt I went straight to the point.”My Aunt keeps some, a few light weights and an exercise bicycle.

Good, tomorrow we’ll begin, after your Aunt leaves. Till then eat and rest, we’ll take tonight off from training.

No.” I said immediately shocking Arthur with my abruptness.”I don’t think I can afford to rest. Not when there’s Metahumans saving the world, a night’s sleep is nothing.

Fine then, but we stop when I say so.” Arthur said as he phased through the wall and disappeared.
We talking about age? I'm 25, and I still feel old. All I wan to do all day is sleep and watch TV, maybe write if I'm not lazy. Oh and play games should I get the energy.
