Leeway is fleeting, to be honest. Sometimes its there and sometimes its not. Personally, I'm willing to allow some stuff to happen, if it makes sense, but others may not be so forgiving.

That's why I think fights, competitive or not, have become far too technical to be much fun. Too many numbers, to the point, if you play them straight, you may not be able to do much. Now everything is can you actually do it, blahblahblah.

On the topic of balancing out characters - staying true to the number values in their abilities is not top priority. Being a good sport is. A healthy dose of benevolence from both participating sides might be all we need to cure a majority of the problems that arise.
I am all hands for including a discovery phase. While in the end, all is in the GM's hands, a discovery phase can provide a bulk of additional information that they may have overlooked, allowing for a higher-quality re-evaluation.

I don't see what problems you guys have with T1 though. I am satisfied with a bare-to-bone T1, where all preps, defenses and ect. are stripped away to be entirely replaced with common sense, information and logic, since i never really did understand them anyways. Pepper it with some kindhearted leeway and scrupulously detailed character sheets, and you're good to go. What's more to ask for?
@yoshua171

You weren't the first one to raise this point, and currently, the whole 'tier' situation has come to a halt. Whether that is good or bad is up to debate, but the fact itself that our current tier system is vague to the point of nigh-uselessness, is a known and even accepted fact. That is why your point was simply ignored - everybody already knows about it, and just can't be assed to start debating it again. Personally, i think that having no tier system at all is marvelous.

As for meeting resistance to your proposition of f different tournament GMing method, that was only natural. It is such a topic that everybody will have their own view upon, since you can't really say that one solution is better than another - the whole topic, in fact, does not have any definitive solution, as one's handling of it is largely dependent on the specifics of the situation at hand, plus, their own personal experience. Hence all the arguing - Rilla and Skallagrim represented their own opinions on this topic, with arguments none less valid than your own. I recall seeing that you even agreed with them at some point.

EDIT: what Skalla said XD

What.

How about a mace or single handed hammer?

Not sure on that, but probably yes. The Beserkers' only privileges are stated to be heavy armor and two-handed swords and clubs, so that means one-handed maces and hammers could be used by Men-at-Arms. You'd need one either way for a better chance to take me and Empty out. XD

I haven't been keeping 100% track of this thread, but what would be the reason for the unfairness? Any character type I should have that would balance things the best?

EDIT: Okay, looking at the characters the situation is two knights vs. two berserkers and an archer to give them support.

EDIT: Can men-at-arms use swords as their secondary weapon?

Yup, just no two-handed large weapons, such as zweihanders, battleaxes and the such. Polearms are fine.

Now that i think of it, why didn't i choose a kanabo as a main?
Honestly, i'm very tempted to call @ImportantNobody to join the Silver Shields. I'd feel better about a battle well lost rather than having it be unfairly won.
gogogo

hype it up

BTW, what's the time limit for posting? 1 day, i surmise, or was that just to get this going faster? honestly, i'm fine with the former, since otherwise, we could have this crawling at a turtle's pace, should everybody make use of a 3 day limit to its fullest.
