I wasn't being upset or angry - just cheeky and the slightest bit irked at the falsely percived notion of HtH being easier to perform than powered combat - so no need to apologize, the amount of jimmies rustled on my side is negligible. But yeah, i follow your logic.
I'd argue that Rook doesn't have enough actual control to secure it though, leaving Quebra with just enough freedom to correct his posture and stay upright. If it were an actual clinch, then absolutely, it'd be a risk.

But yeah, back to the original question: is Rook going to follow through with the second cross step in that case, or should i not bother typing up a storm and just stop at the defence portion?
In this instance, i'm planning for Quebra to stop only himself from smacking his pecs against the shield - he is barely over half of Rook's full weight, so not much of a chance to overpower the merc even with his souped up calves - but it will end up with him heavily leaning his weight into the shield. Not pushing back though, he'd just be resting up against it.

A knee strike, to be precise, as to let him brace the impact with three limbs instead of two and better stop the momentum of his lower body.

If Quebra successfully defends against the first shove, will Rook still follow through with pushing again and switching to a left lead? I'm a bit confused as to whether the post implies that Rook would perform the action only if the initial shield bash would prove successful in unbalancing/making sufficient contact with Quebra's body, or if he'd do so in any case, as long as Quebra is in front of the shield, as to make the action possible?
Low-to-mid is generally easier to balance than higher tiers, but still leaves enough room for creativity. More grounded, with less additional factors to account for. Thusly it is so far my personal preference, especially when it comes to competition.

Imho, HtH gives a far better understanding of the fundamentals than throwing your powers around as 'get out of jail for free' card or for cheap damage.

EDIT: pardon the lazy response above, but to elborate, powers introduce a whole new layer of dynamics, under which the very basics can be easily lost to the newcomer. They might focus on using their powers the most, and do so to a certain degree of success, but at the same time, neglect to understand the flow of RP combat.

Hand to hand may be more bland and restrictive, but it will force the combatants to actually think of how to use the tools at their disposal to the best of their extent and make them try get in their opponent's head, all while providing a somewhat simpler picture of what exactly is going on.
Make the newbies go hand-to-hand. None of that fancy shtick.

That is why i consider cross-community interaction the key solution. From what i have observed, the number of arena roleplayers as a whole has waned compared to the last decade, and the community is still in the process of condensing itself; before, there were enough people on a single website to support the arena section - now, those cliques need to establish stronger connections between eachother, as that no longer stands true for most places.

As that occurs, the aformentioned lack of activity will be redeemed - and currently, there are already steps being taken towards this. Give it some time, and i am sure that soon enough it will be attracting new blood on its own.
