The problem is that he wasn't given the chance to take the hit. The GM broke his own rule and auto-hit Alex. The GM said auto-hitting is against the rules, but he just auto-hit Alex, supposedly without John's permission.

She listened to his bet and happily accepted it, either way she would win in the end. "You're on and the name's Qiqi!" Exclaimed the drunken pirate as she charged towards the men who came out in response. F7 held the advantage with range and large area of effect abilities, but this was all in fun and the taste of victory would be that more sweeter.

@SimplyJohnThen they were joined by the Russian bulldozer of a man and his company made the pirate smile as their brawl grew. "All a part of the plan I just made up! Keep charging through them, let's bust down their door!" The pirate queen ran through with her blade in hand taking the bullets and gritting her teeth as each left a sensation flowing through her body but she wasn't going to let that stop her. If the guards stood their ground then she would swing to cleave through whoever stood in her way while focusing her attention on breaking the door down and leading these men and others on a chase so the others could sneak through the other side.
