True, but nevertheless.
In order to keep a good balance between anime-style physics and realism, larger weapons will be more awkward to handle. Please understand that Kyo's sword is a massive exception to what I intended to allow in this RP and I'm making concessions for his ability to wield it effectively. Other characters will have trouble with larger weapons, but nevertheless they will be functional depending on how they are used.
It's not ideal, but the alternative is going full anime and that will include a fucking panty raid.
Oh, I am perfectly aware that my character is going to be an oddball.
In many ways that's how he was conceived. For practical, rule of cool, comical and of course even dramatical purposes. Kyo actually had many issues because of his physical strength. Many people also fear him for this.
Imagine eating with a guy who is known to murder imperial soldiers with a fork just like the one he's feeding with.
Not the best appetizer, I can tell you.

As for weapons for others. I agree that we shouldn't blindly go with the idea of higher tier gun = better.
Even discounting the weight a large water-cooled "SMG" would be difficult to use in tight spaces and may also take more time to aim.
Albeit the long gun can help you with leading your shots and of course it increases range, accuracy and power of the bullet. I mean they had to design them that way with reason.
Another interesting idea is that VC2 guns use drum magazines. What if the water cooled SMGs have drum magazines and indeed would function a bit like LMGs?
T-MAGs are also more like AK-47s on steroids. Should we retool them as assault rifles in the RP? In-game and by lore they are apparently rapid-firing weapons with added magazine capacity, though.

I mean on a realistic level. I can see how it works in a game, I've played a couple games that are similar, but not the realistic applications.
How could we talk about realism when while mentioning a guy surviving tank fire?
On the other hand I gave you a reasonable explanation by the series' logic.
Guys who can destroy tanks with plain muscle can also survive explosive tank shells by their plain flesh... to some degree, at least.
There's also the Ragnite which can be also used to create powerful armors or weapon edges.
If you are ever in doubt, rely on the pseudo-scientific omnipotent qualities of Ragnite.
Seriously, that thing can be used for nearly anything.
Power source, poison, healing agent, explosive, non-exploding super-tough material and even more.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ragnite covers a diverse group of materials which are just happen to look similar and mined from the same source.

As for why you have tanks with superhuman soldiers like these around?
1.) Rule of cool doesn't follow reasonable logic. You are thinking too much.
2.) Anti-tank melee dudes are obviously the elite, even their class name tell you so. Highly skilled manpower actually worths more than any vehicle. So tanks are better than rarely occurring super tough soldiers.
3.) BTW, yeah, in many fictional settings being skilled fighter makes you increasingly more superhuman. Don't ask how. Maybe they live in a world where RPG like character progression is real.
4.) As the GM said, we sure won't get any of the more insane character classes. They could be fun but the aim is for a more serious atmosphere, I bet.
While I'm thinking about it, can someone explain to me how a tank shell doesn't just blow a Fencer to hell? I mean, the guy has to be using a shield and wearing armor made out of titanium or something. And on top of that, how does the impact and subsequent rattling of the noggin not turn their brain to mush?
I suppose you mean VC2 Fencers because their VC3 incarnation barely wears any armor.
Well, part gameplay mechanics and partially because in Valkyria Chronicles armor isn't that useless.
Also keep in mind that after grinding for a while the said Fencer can turn into a Mauler who can destroy entire wall sections and defeat tank armor.
Force-counterforce relation. If a dude can physically destroy walls then he can also survive explosives that do the same.

Anyways, the more insane feat goes for the Armored Techs.
Their shield can literally survive almost anything without suffering damage (well, Gunners have the arbitrary power to harm them but for example they can take more firepower than any tank in VC3...unless they get flanked).

To be fair, in this RP larger guns will be treated fairly realistically; if a later mark of SMG is too unwieldy to use on the run, then it'll have to serve as an LMG instead.
These guns are useless as LMGs, too. They are old water-cooled heavy machineguns chambered to fire way underpowered 9mm bullets and lacking bipods or any support for stable fire.
If we get down to the designs, practically anything but the early tier weapons don't make a realistic sense.
That and soldiers carry tons of armor in VC.
I say it's more reasonable to assume people in VC are tougher than in real life.
Gives you a similarly nice excuse why they can perform fancy movements during cutscenes.
Anyways, in the end you have to rely on your willing suspension of disbelief and view VC a bit like typical fantasy RPGs.

@Raven_OperativeIf weren't for his dense muscles it'd be almost as heavy as Kyo himself.
Though do note that Valkyria Chronicles is a weird world where 20+ kg water cooled guns are practical and considered SMGs.
And then we can talk about the madness that are anti-tank mauls, even though we don't have that class here (yet?).
Compared to the latter Kyo's style and choice of weapon can be even said to be reserved.

In that case, I can easily move elsewhere, my elves could be more focused on the Central America/Southern Mexico area. :)

They could even be derived from your group.
Or in reverse, I'm fine with either.
Obviously two elven countries in the neighborhood of each other must mean there's some relation between them.

@MihndarI have yet to read your post but there isn't any mention of the elves in it?
I mean I am right there but you haven't @mentioned me.
Yeah I avoided #2 because I heard the general consensus was that it was kinda shit.

#3 on the other hand is great. Has me constantly thinking "Why, why whyyyyyyy couldn't they have released this on a proper console/PC..."
VC2 is okay if you don't view it as an actual sequel to Valkyria Chronicles.
It's overall a decent game but when you compare it to the previous incarnation you can't help calling it inferior.
Plot-wise, gameplay-wise and in practically all accounts.
It did improve a lot of things compared to the previous game, but some of the new features also make the game a mess.

You might as well view VC2 as the "tech demo" for VC3.
Elements which worked out in VC2 can be also seen in VC3.
And indeed, VC3 is pretty good.
@Lennon79Posted.
It mostly has Meulemann talking.
Also I thought it'd be weird if a somebody like him would abbreviate his own middle name so I called that Horscht.
You are free to ignore this part in the future or I can fix it if you want.
I wished I could continue it further because I barely wrote Kyo actually doing something. But I'd need your reactions and input first.
That, and given Kyo's personality it's better if you initiate the conversation.

Meulemann's Office,12th Company Headquarters, Fort Breda

"I was wondering where I might find him?" Sergeant Harald from Squad 4 politely asked his superior. Suddenly they noticed a slight commotion going on outside. "Hey! Who said you can lug that thing around? Leave it here!" *THUMP* Deep and muffled noise could be heard as something heavy made contact with the ground. Did they deploy field artillery? No, it sounded way sharper than that, mayhaps similar to a heavy spike? "I think you're about to meet him, Sergeant. Good, he's also right on time." Meulemann said while checking his pocket watch. A soldier must be punctual, that was part of his motto. Steel-plated footsteps typical to military boots were heard climbing the wooden steps and they were coming closer. In a short while the door opened to reveal the new figure. He was short, about 5'6" tall, and aside from the rusted imperial breastplate he was wearing standard Militia gear. His facial features told he must be around 15-16 years old albeit his eyes were burning with spirit and determination. His bluish dark hair and traditional shawl were obvious signs to his Darcsen origins albeit the cloth pattern was a strange variation Harald likely never heard about. "Private First Class Kyo is reporting for duty, Sir!" The boy who just introduced himself as Kyo saluted to his superiors. Strange, Kyo was anything but a traditional Darcsen name. Things started to seem confusing. "At ease, soldier! Permission granted to enter." To Meluemann's word Kyo entered the office, his eyes never wandering to the decorations. "My name is Tarquin Horscht Meulemann, captain of the 12th Company. From this day on you are under my command. Am I understood?" "Yes Sir!" "Good! Then allow me to introduce your new leader. This gentleman in front of me is Sergeant Harald, leader of Squad 4 and your direct superior. Sergeant, this young man is Private First Class Kyo, your newest squad member. Make sure you are acquainted before the next battle. Now, I'm afraid I have some important business to do. Dismissed."

After that Kyo left. He picked up Kirugane, a colosal 60kg sword, at the checkpoint. That thing was practically as large as Kyo himself and obviously weighed a lot. Yet he carried the heavy sword around in one hand as he followed Sergeant Harald back to Squad Four's barracks.

I was planning on letting you start with that. It's not Velikaya's personality to jump headfirst into diplomacy, but rather to watch carefully and comment when needed. So go ahead. I'll reply to you both in a next post (or this one if you finish before me), which should be quite speedy in comparison since the rest of my week is free.
You'll need to wait hours for that, so I was a bit figurative. I knew you could finish before me.
Anyways, diplomatic talks can come later. We need the "intro" and some chatter first.
If you wish to include stuff about my Prime Minister or reaction to my elves, you can discuss it with me via the existing PM convo we have.
Only if you have something which you are uncertain about.
