Participation points I suppose exist for one reason: to motivate players to participate in more fights.
If somebody has more points than you because of it that means you weren't as active as them.
Of course it begs to question whether such motivation method is right for a forum RP setting.
I mean we only RP for fun and when we have free time. If somebody plays more and gets ahead because of it then I suppose many people would feel cheated. Or worse, be motivated to play and compete at the expense of their offline lives.
So perhaps abolishing this system may be preferable, given if the majority agrees.
Of course for the sake of fairness I'd also suggest retroactively removing all the point gains from lost matches.

As for losing points for lost matches, that might be counterproductive, too. I mean it works fine for raising the stakes but it'd also result in some players getting dropped off the tournament. It also increases the gap between players which while can be preferable, also can destroy the motivation of lower ranking participants. Say you lose 100 points while the victor gained 100. That'd mean he's 200 points ahead of you. A system like this may only work if it's necessary to edge on the competition. Our arena environment in comparison seems to be almost lukewarm. No offense here, I actually prefer it that way. We play for fun and not for the desire to beat each other at all costs.
EDIT:
I felt compelled to show everyone this line from my upcoming post:
@Willy Vereb
"Kal does not care whether you are a Kallab or a human or even an elf."
Screw elves, man, screw elves. Even Mulspan doesn't like 'em
That's mighty strange given for you there should be little difference between humans or elves.
They both look ugly with their pinkish smooth skin and lack of bone growths. Not to mention they are usually too damn tall!
And what about the other races? There are far more than 3 in this setting.

I was busy for most of the week and I still will be in the following days.
I suggest people to continue the discussions and work on their profiles. Like I said this can be effectively used for the same purposes as the OOC so I suppose you don't suffer from this delay.
My first OC was a demon contracted to his master and loosely inspired by Alucard from Hellsing.
The RP I used him for is long dead and even my best necromancy skills cannot crawl the web for the site I played him on.
So whatever I say I mention to you out of distant memories. It's been close to a decade now. For example I sure don't remember the character's name or any such precise details.

Well, on the character's background. Once upon the time a group secretly conducted a ritual to summon a powerful demon and supposedly attain immortality(?). They messed up and the demon went out of control, murdering near-everyone. Unfortunately the botched summoning also left him drained and out of desperation he made contract with the last survivor. This has been hundreds of years ago and since then the demon serves this family as their powerful servant. Mr. Demon obeys but of course he doesn't like his predicament and secretly plots for his freedom.

The basic setting was that after thousands of years the demons break the seal and begin invading the mortal realms again. To defeat them they gather seven or so heroes with legendary weapons. My demon was technically on their side, following his orders by his current master. He used to be a lieutenant of the fire demons and one of the most bloodthirsty and ferocious fighters known. Since having him roam around like that is hardly a smart idea he has 12 seals put on him.
Took quite a while to find it after several years but for his fully sealed form I used this pic:

When fully sealed his personality is calm and sinister. He's still obviously bloodthirsty and uses something akin to a chain which he can control with his will. He also has a good degree of regen unless anti-demon/holy items are in use. As the seals come off he becomes stronger and more aggressive and can manipulate fire to increasing degree. After most seals came off he regains a considerable portion of his power along with his signature element the crimson flames (not sure on this part, maybe they didn't have any coloration). Its ability to grown in power the more area these fires burn make it a perfect weapon of massacre which may even surpass demon lords in this aspect. In short imagine a crazy demon made of nothing but living fire nuking everything. That's the true face of my character and that's the most likely situation if he's allowed to let loose.
Plus like I said he was plotting to free himself, with his comrades returning to the mortal realm he got a pretty good chance for that.
Until then mr. demon had no qualms about murdering anything else he was ordered to, be it even his fellow demons.

So yeah, that was him. Unfortunatelly the RP died down rather quick so I never had a chance to truly use him.
Million Exploding Suns Season

Personal battles involving various characters are fun but perhaps it's time for something a bit more unique.
Million Exploding Suns Season (MESS) is open style battle arena where instead of humanoid fighters we challenge each other with spaceships. So long it isn't too overpowered you are free to choose any kind of spaceship, be it original or imported from an existing franchise.
Have you ever wondered how a fight between the SSV Normandy and the Millennium Falcon would play out?
You wish to face tribulations as the crew of the Enterprise?
Perhaps you have your own original idea in mind?

This game can allow it all.
In regards of players it all depends on the conditions we choose. It could be a duel between two spaceships, a skirmish-like battle scenario with two teams fighting each other to the eath or perhaps we can invent other game types.
The main divergence from classic arena matches is that you fight with warships in space.

But before we begin crafting plans to conquer the galaxy we need to work on a few things.
You can leave the CS scheme to me. I have a fairly decent idea in mind. I'll be posting that later.

Aside from that we would need maps specially thought up for space battles. Unlike some purer arena matches the "terrain" can be rather important here.

I would also like to discuss some points with you in regards of how to balance ships.
The general idea is that none of the individual ships can be stronger than the other.
Either that or a tiering system, but the latter would only work if we would get so many players for it.
I'm not that optimistic for the beginning.

Anyways, there are a few things we may want to discuss.
Alternatively post here if you are actually interested in this type of game. That's the main point of these threads anyways.
<Snipped quote by Voltus_Ventus>

Work on what, exactly?

That's quite unfortunate, I hope it gets fixed or whatever the problem is.
Goo in the bad that Eisenkreis is somewhat isolated from the main plot for now.
But yeah, hope if there's a problem it can be fixed quick.

I could probably try... Me and slyph have been in the RP the longest so we probably have the best grasp of his character, but I'm rarely good at role playing other people's characters accurately.
Key to RPing the characters of others to learn playing stereotypes.
Try to fit the player's character into a certain stereotype or the mixture of two, then act with him accordingly.
For more advanced mimicry it's advised to recreate the character in your own mind. What if you created Harald with the same features? How would you play him?One of the main points is to never be bothered how the actual player would control the char. You can't read minds so attempting to play Harald exactly like Leon would do is a sure mixture for failure. Remain faithful to the already established stuff but on the other hand you do have a degree of freedom here. Rare times the owners even got praised me to RP other's characters better than they did. I'm not really saying this to brag but to show you aren't bound to replicate everything to the last detail.
Be at ease.

Anyways, nobody expects you to completely replace Leon so don't worry about that.
The point is just to advance the plot in his absence as he permitted us to do.
Pardon for the mini lesson and I'm just saying that you don't need to be nervous about it.
So long it's passable everybody will be satisfied.
Anyone is willing to RP Harald?
Technically I can do it but that'd feel like talking to myself.
Besides half of the fun is to see Harald's reaction to Kyo's eccentricism.
Since the GM just gave permission, anyone who has a good idea I suppose is welcome to RP Harald for a bit.
Unpowered: So anything within human capabilities (guns haven't been fit into this properly yet, as using a gun is within human capabilities, but the damage it causes is way above human capable attacks.)
That's completely bullshit.
a sword or hell even an arrow does more damage than most bullets. The only difference is that guns are easier to use and their bullets are faster.
There are still countless ways you can fight a gunner, especially in a fictional setting.
At worst you have to separate this to low and high tiers.
A guy armed to the teeth AND skilled in various martial arts would be unfair against somebody who only has either of these two.

Powered: This is the broad category where most characters sit, and due to the hard to categorize nature of magic etc we've broadened it to make it easier to fit a lot of different characters together. I like to think of the sub categories within powered as

Low Powered: This is where your vampiric and other super-natural entities -tend- to sit, heightened beyond human physical characteristics, fairly weak forms of magic, etc.

Mid Powered: By far the broadest category, this can range from low level destruction to street level IMO, though quantifying characters is pretty much impossible, you just have to judge each case by case.

High Powered: Street edging towards city level destruction. The category after this is somewhat unhelpfully 'God' so I consider anything up to but before a god in this category.
Um, low and street level destruction is practically the same.
Unpowered dudes with modern weapons are already this level, the only difference is how much resources and effort is spent.
You can set up a C4 to blow up a reinforced door while the Powered dude can do the same with a lazy kick.
Also city level destruction is about 12 orders of magnitudes higher than typical street level power. Perhaps you'd rather quantify that as the broadest category here.

Anyways, your opinion seems to conflict with @Rilla's idea for "mid tier" a bit.
I like your way of explaining it more, though.

The reason why most of the characters in the character challenge thread are the same is because people tend to edge up their competition or match it. After the first few characters were thrown down I dropped a relatively powerful mid-tier character and everyone from that point on matched it to ensure they wouldn't be outdone, essentially. If you were to ask people however I'm sure they have a wide range of tiered characters for you to fight at a request. I quite like to play lower tiers for example.
That much is given.
But if the majority of the characters are "low tier" it worries me considerably because it tells something about the overall freedom and imagination in these.
Granted, I sure haven't read all matches and you can obviously have fun with low tier exchanges.
I just feel this kind of overpresentation throttles down all the other efforts.
Hearing stuff like anybody thinking that guns are OP doesn't help in my belief on this front.
Seriously, how many fiction people watched/read? I may be slightly overexposed to them because for a year I used to have nothing to do but it still doesn't take a genius figure things out.
To sum it up this is starting to bother me a bit.
On a different note I just figured out the perfect candidate for this game.
Some paragraphs in and i'm already facing writer's block.

Some motivation, please.

Inspirational motivation or "titspirational" motivation, whichever you prefer.
