Azrael nodded to the Root as it dissolved into the ground. The beast was large, but that only meant it would be unwieldy if toppled over. Its physiology meant that it could switch to all fours for better balance. It would be hard to outmaneuver the golem on the ground, so why not go up?
First however, he waited until the golem was almost upon him, rolling to the side and avoiding a titanic sideswipe. The arm seemed to whistle as it passed over his back, even as Azrael popped to his feet he was backpedaling, nimbly leaping backwards. He was now glad for all of the thrashing his Masters had given him, making his body agile, strong, and enduring. The golem was determined, however. It followed Azrael's every move and it made the boy worry he'd eventually succumb to the golem's pacing instead of his own. He slashed with his sword, but only made a glancing blow to the arm, gouging a shallow slash on the underarm. Az realized he'd need a bit more weight behind his attack for any real damage to be sustained.
With a minimal amount of power, Azrael launched himself into the air with a powerful downwards gust of wind. He flew up until his momentum slowed and he began a descent. He threw himself out like a sky-diver and after a moment's concentration and a little more magic, he landed on his Eagle's back like a wildcat. Luckily, he only had to expend minimal energy, activating one of the talismans he'd prepared. He still felt fresh a newborn robin and he was planning to stay that way. A plan began to formulate, but the boy observed his opponent for a few moments from up high, wanting to see what the big guy had in him.
